Back To School Beating

It's happened again, just in time for the new school year.
In Portage, Michigan, a teenager has a skull fracture and other injuries inflicted upon him because he's gay.

That's all. Just gay.

Fifteen-year-old Steven Harmon was hanging out with a friend when he says two 17-year-olds attacked him in the parking lot at Walnut Trail Apartments. His friend helped him fight off his attackers., one of whom has been arrested. The county prosecutor is looking into this as a hate crime.

Steven Harmon recently came out to his family. But, he says, while the attack may have caused him a lot of physical pain, he is staying strong. "You did not break my spirit. I'm still standing here today and I am what I am," said Harmon.

Why why why are some straight men so unbelievably threatened by gay men? I just don't understand.

  2. Of course the poetic justice is that the attacker goes to jail and becomes someone's bitch.

  3. Harmon's word are a good reminder to us all. If we succumb to threats and violence, they win. If we refuse to let our spirits be broken, we win.
