In sad news, Mary Wilson, one of the founding members of The
Supremes, passed away this week, quite suddenly, at the age of 76.
In the 1960s; The Supremes were it: the Motown Sound; the
Sound of Young America; the Detroit Sound. The Supremes had 12
Number 1 pop hits from 1964-69 and are the only all-girl group to score five
Number 1 singles in a row; they also had 16 Top Ten pop singles and 19 Top Ten R&B
singles.
Mary wasn’t as well-known as Diana Ross, but keep in mind,
without Mary and Florence and Diana opening the doors, there would be no
Beyoncé or Alicia Keys or Jennifer Hudson or …or…or…
