Yes, Mitchell, Another Day, Another Asshat: Joey Hensley, Tennessee Republican

Yesterday I posted an Asshat of the Week—John Shimkus—and Mitchell, from Mitchell is Moving said:
“Sadly, you could do an "Asshat of the Day" and still not be able to keep up.”
Mitchell’s right ... another day, another asshat ... and this time it’s Tennessee state Senator, and Republican because ... of course, Joey Hensley. He won the seat of wildcard lawmaker, and fellow asshat, Stacey Campfield, whom you might remember proposing a bill in Tennessee to, ahem, “Don’t Say Gay”—if passed, it would have banned schools, administrators, and even students from discussing anything related to The Gays.

Senator Hensley, a lawmaker for 15 years and a doctor, helped with that legislation; he also pushed a bill to allow discrimination against LGBT people and atheists by mental health students, by allowing them to refuse to treat The Gays and The Atheists as part of their required training if the Baby Jeebus said so.

Joey Hensley thinks "Modern Family" shouldn't be allowed on TV, and yet he supports a pro-"MILO" bill created to ensure that conservatives are allowed to speak on college campuses. It's named for that former Breitbart editor, Milo Yiannopoulos, who advocated for underage sex between older men and teenaged boys as young as 13.

And he also hates the idea of The Gays getting married, but Senator Hensley, himself, has been married and divorced, four times; he believes in one man-four women marriage, I’m guessing. But this isn’t about that, because there’s more ... he is named in the sworn court testimony of a local mayor's divorce proceedings.

Apparently Hensley, as a doctor, working in his office, fell in love with one of his nurses and began a torrid affair even though she was a married woman. When one of Hensley’s ex-wives tips off the nurse’s husband, a local mayor, the story came out ...

The nurse is not just his employee.

the nurse is also a patient of his with, shall we say, an affection for pain pills.

And ... the nurse is Hensley’s second cousin.

And so when Hensley was subpoenaed to appear in court to testify in the divorce proceedings of Hohenwald Vice Mayor Don Barber and his wife Lori, he failed to show up because, wait for it, it’s rich ...
“I didn’t have time to do it. I had nothing to do with the court case, and any testimony I would have given wouldn’t have made any difference.”
Um, you were screwing your nurse, who is addicted to pain pills and is your cousin who was married to someone else at the time. You have everything to do with it.

And let’s not forget that Senator Hensley is one of those Christian Conservatives who fights against gay kids, gay adults, same-sex couples who want children—Hensley sponsored legislation that would make children created using donor sperm illegitimate.

And then let’s talk about his own actions ... it is a violation of the American Medical Association’s code of ethics for a doctor to become romantically involved with a patient.

He did that, but then she also worked for him.

It is also in violation of the state board’s guidelines for a doctor to regularly treat immediate family members or prescribe them drugs.

He did that, to his second cousin, who worked for him and whom he was schtupping.

He’s a keeper, Tennessee; he works hard to keep The Gays down while he’s feeding pills to his nurse-lover-cousin and proclaiming himself to be a good Christian.

What he is, actually, is another ISBL Asshat of the Week.

'Don't Say Gay Bill' Might Be Dead, But 'Gateway Sexual Activity' Is The Newest Fight For Tennessee Legislators

I won't be sending flowers, though i am pleased to learn that Tennessee's 'Don't Say Gay' bill has died a well-deserved death. It will not be put to a final vote needed for passage, the measure's House sponsor, Repugnant Republican Representative, Joey Hensley, has announced.
Doesn't mean it's over, or that Tennessee legislators have removed their engorged heads from their tightened sphincters. No, though there will be no vote, and no passage of 'Don't Say Gay,' Hensley has also announced that officials of the Department of Education and the state Board of Education have pledged to send a letter to all Tennessee schools "telling them they cannot teach this subject in grades kindergarten through eight."
Joey Hensley
"With that assurance and the opposition of some people who didn't want to vote on it, I've decided simply not to bring it up," said Hensley.
He also said, because he's a bigot and a homophobe who feels there are no more pressing issues in Tennessee than saying 'gay' in schools, that the bill could be re-filed next year if there is any indication of "alternate lifestyles" being prompted in Tennessee schools despite the pending letter.
"Alternative".
Like, Tennessee exists in an "alternative" universe.
And if you don't believe that, well, then, there is this:
We've all heard of alleged "gateway" drugs; you know, smoking pot will lead to shooting up heroin. But, in Tennessee, the legislature is now focused on “gateway sexual activity.”
Holding hands leads to fornication.
Kissing leads to, well, I was gonna get real graphic, but I decided against it. Let's just say that the Tennessee Legislature is still obsessed with sex, because that's the biggest problem in Tennessee.
Sex. Oh, and gay folks. And, probably, gay folks having sex. But, anyway, back to "gateway sexual activity."
The Tennessee Legislature has a bill to Governor Bill Haslam that would require sex-education classes “exclusively and emphatically” promote abstinence only. it would also ban teachers and outside groups from promoting “gateway sexual activity,” which the bill defines as: “sexual conduct encouraging an individual to engage in a non-abstinent behavior.”
Jim Gotto
Repugnant Republican Representative Jim Gotto, the bill’s sponsor, does say the bill would not address things as innocuous as holding hands, but even Gotto doesn't say what "gateway sexual activity" means. Perhaps because he doesn't know, because he's too busy trying to legislate morality rather than law.
But, if Gotto's ridiculous bill becomes law then groups like Planned Parenthood, and others, who provide sex education information in schools could face a $500 fine.
For educating people, er, young people, about sex.
Oh, Tennessee, when are you people gonna stop allowing these moronic legislators to speak for you?
When?

Tennessee Tuesday: Don't Watch "Modern Family"....It's Gay

Wingnutted Homophobe
Joey Hensley
On the same day that wingnutted homophobe, Tennessee Senator, Stacey Campfield’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill made it out of a House subcommittee, Chairman of the House Education Subcommittee, wingnutted homophobe Joey Hensley admonished all Tennessee parents not to let their children watch “Modern Family” on television because they might discover there are homosexuals in the world:

“I don’t think ‘Modern Family’ is appropriate for children to watch.”

Hensley said solemnly, and with a straight homophobic face, after a Nashville preacher testified that children might find out about gay people by seeing the show even if teachers aren’t allowed to say gay in schools.
Seriously? Tennessee? Seriously?
This is what you want your legislators to do? Tell teachers what to teach, and what they can and cannot say? And you want your legislators telling you what to watch on TV?
Seriously, Tennessee, you're making me sick.
