I Didn't Say It ...

Prince Harry, on Sussexit:

“…I must say that I can only imagine what you may have heard or perhaps read over the past few weeks. So I want you to hear the truth from me, as much as I can share, not as a duke or prince but as Harry, the same person that many of you have perhaps watched grow up over the last 35 years but now with a clearer perspective … The U.K. is my home and a place that I love. That will never change. I’ve grown up feeling supported by so many of you and I’ve watched as you welcomed Meghan with open arms as you saw me find the love and happiness that I’d hoped for all my life … I also know that you’ve come to know me well enough over all these years to trust that the woman I chose as my wife upholds the same values as I do. And she does. And she’s the same woman I fell in love with. We both do everything we can to fly the flag and carry out our roles for this country with pride … Once Meghan and I were married, we were excited. We were hopeful and we were here to serve. For those reasons, it brings me great sadness that it has come to this. The decision I have made for my wife and I to step back is not one I made lightly … It was so many months of talks after so many years of challenges and I know I haven’t always gotten it right but as far as this goes there really was no other option. What I want to make clear is, we’re not walking away. I hope that helps you understand what it had to come to, that I would step my family back from all I have ever known, to stake a step forward into what I hope can be a more peaceful life. I will always have the utmost respect for my grandmother, my commander in chief, and I am incredibly grateful to her and the rest of my family for the support they have shown Meghan and I over the last few months … I will continue to be the same man who holds his country dear and dedicates his life to supporting the causes, charities and military communities that are so important to me.”

This is a man who watched his mother tortured and murdered by the media, and then sees that same media go after his wife in the most vile ways. And he chooses to step away to save his wife and family from the pain his mother went through.
I say, Good job, Harry.
Kellyanne Conway, _____’s cryptkeeper, on impeachment and MLK:

“I’ve held my opinion on it for a very long time, but when you see the articles of impeachment that came out, I don’t think it was Dr. King’s vision to have Americans dragged through a process where the president is not going to be removed from office, is not being charged bribery, extortion, high crimes and misdemeanors.  I, this morning, was reading some of the lesser-known passages by Dr. King and I appreciate the fact that we as a nation respect him by giving him his own day.”

SerIously. She’s calling up MLK, a man her own boss would deem less than, to talk impeachment.
Fuck off, lapdog.
George Conway, husband of _____ cryptkeeper,  Kellyanne Conway, on _____’s lawyers:

“The depths to which _____’s lawyers will go to make these deceptive arguments. I mean they’re treating the American public, they’re treating the Senate, like they’re morons. It’s just outrageous. I’m deeply saddened. It’s very upsetting. And this is a moment I think of reckoning. Not just for the country and for the rule of law and for the Constitution. It’s a very specific day of reckoning for the Republican senators who took this oath, and the Republican Party generally. Are they going to stand for lies instead of truth? Are they going to stand for gaslighting instead of reality? Are they going to just do the bidding of this one man and put his interests over those of the country? That’s what this is about.”

Too bad your wife can't, or won't see that.
Phil Bryant, GOP governor of Mississippi, on what might happen if Mississippi elects its first Black senator since reconstruction:

“I intend to work for [Cindy Hyde Smith] as if the fate of America depended on her single election. If Mike Espy and the liberal Democrats gain the Senate we will take that first step into a thousand years of darkness.”

Racist much? I mean, I know it’s Mississippi, but still.
Lindsey Graham, on ____”s mood as he faces the Senate trial:

“His mood is to go to the State of the Union with this behind him and talk about what he wants to do for the next, rest of 2020 and what he wants to do for the next four years. He is very much comfortable with the idea that this is going to turn out well for him. The one thing he talks to me constantly about is, what does the next president do after this if this is successful? He does not want to legitimatize the attack on the presidency.”

Oh ma’am, he’s not the least bit concerned about the next president or the one after that. He’s concerned about his image and his brand and his money.
Your only concern is latching onto men in power because you have none of your own.
Michael Moore, filmmaker and activist, on the New York Times endorsement of both Elizabeth Warren and Amy Klobuchar:

“We shouldn’t run one woman. We should run two women. The president and the vice president on the ticket will be two women. Let’s just double down on this. Let’s just double down. All the pundits will go, ‘oh no, you can’t do that. They’ll never get elected now.’ Oh yeah? I’ll tell you right now, every woman’s gonna vote. And every young person’s gonna vote. And anybody, anybody who’s part of any group that has had the boot on their neck for most of their lives because they belong to a particular ethnic group, a particular gender, a particular age group, everybody who knows that feeling will come out and be for that.”

I can see that happening.
And I’m down for it.

I Didn't Say It ...

Anderson Cooper, taking on Junior for his Tweet Cooper’s coverage Hurricane Florence wasn’t truthful:

“I debated whether I should even respond tonight to the president’s son. I know he considers himself an outdoorsman and pays a lot of money to be led to wildlife in Africa that he then kills. But I’m not sure if he’s actually been to a hurricane or a flood. I didn’t see him down in North Carolina over the last few days helping out, lending a hand, but I’m sure he was doing something important besides just tweeting lies.”

He was schtupping his mistress, getting an oily spray tan, and, from the looks of it, eating carbs.
Oh, and Lie Tweeting, too.
Michael Moore, filmmaker, on _____:

“I think that we have someone in the White House who has no respect for the rule of law, who dislikes democracy by an incredible degree, which doesn’t make him really any that much different from other billionaires or CEOs because their businesses are not democracies. They rule by fiat. They decide, they make the calls and they don’t like anybody else having a say. They also like to take home the bulk of the money, with them. So this is — putting somebody like that in charge of a democracy is a very dangerous thing, and especially, it’s more dangerous with him because he has a complete lack of ideology.”

And so ........ Vote, dammit!
Susan Sarandon, on what grade she’d give _____ for his performance so far:

“Oh my God, I would tell him to just start all over again. I don’t think we can grade him. I think what he’s done that is the most significant, is that by no … unintentionally he has energized …. Um … he is so bumbling. He’s like a character out of a cartoon or something that you can’t not be aware of what’s going on now. And Bernie Sanders proved that you can run without taking dark money, without taking PAC money. And so you see an enormous amount of people that are using that and are running and winning … like 40 percent more women are running for office and becoming elected … This is a revolution. It may not seem like one … Maybe things had to get so bad before real change actually could happen.”

Since I believe that Sarndon helped _____ get eected by publicly denouncing Hillary Clinton and then either not voting or casting a third party vote, I think she should kindly go f**k herself.
Debra Messing, no fan of Sarandon’s, in response:

“STFU SUSAN. Oh yes, PLEASE let’s give _____ CREDIT. I mean how else are you able to walk out on the street. Convince yourself that that this CATASTROPHE of a President who you said was better that HRC IS NOT ripping children away from parents seeking asylum, holding children INDEFINITELY in internment camps with their new policy, DESTROYING all attempts to protect our environment … endangered animals, taking away women’s ACCESS to health care and legal abortion, trying to block POC from Voting with extreme Judges who will support jerrymandering (sic) efforts, not to mention destroying ALL good will and allied relationships across the Globe. Oh, and lest you forget Syria, Crimea, and putting PRO-RUSSIA agenda BEFORE the United States best interests. YES, do go on. And LAUD the effect Trump has had. Out of DESPERATION & PANIC for the DESTRUCTION of the Soul of our country. But you don’t want to look at THAT part of the equation. Because then you’d have to admit you were dead WRONG running around bellowing that HRC was more dangerous than _____. Only a self righteous, narcissist would continue to spout off and not—in the face of Americans’ pain and agony—be contrite and apologize for your part in this catastrophe. But, you do you Susan.”

Suh-nap.
Beto O’Rourke, running for US Senate form Texas against Ted Cruz, on The Wall and immigration:

“We don’t need walls. We can have smart security solutions … People are coming out at this moment of truth. They’re going to help us decide as a country, are we a nation of walls? Will we ban all Muslims or all people of one religion? Will we describe the press as the ‘enemy of the people’? Will we take kids away from their parents when they’re trying to claim asylum, fleeing from the most brutal countries in this hemisphere, if not the planet?”

And there is a pretty good chance that Texas will choose Beto over Ted.
Finally, some good news out of the Lonestar State?
Steve Negron, New Hampshire GOP House nominee, on his support for gay conversion therapy, AKA “ex-gay” torture:

“I did not vote for that. I believe that’s something that, when you look at these young children that are trying to make a decision, and I remember when I was 15-16 I was confused, I had a lot of options in my life. I think we need to be able to help them understand what it is, give them the right information, and let them get the treatment that they need to understand what the situation is, and I think the parents have a huge role in that as well.”

By forcing them to live a life contrary to their true selves because you were uncomfortable as a teen?
Siddown asshat.

Ladies and Gentle-Ladies, Michael Moore

To My Fellow Citizens, the Republicans:

Thanks to last night's vote, that child of yours who has had asthma since birth will now be covered after suffering for her first nine years as an American child with a pre-existing condition.

Thanks to last night's vote, that 23-year-old of yours who will be hit one day by a drunk driver and spend six months recovering in the hospital will now not go bankrupt because you will be able to keep him on your insurance policy.

Thanks to last night's vote, after your cancer returns for the third time -- racking up another $200,000 in costs to keep you alive -- your insurance company will have to commit a criminal act if they even think of dropping you from their rolls.

Yes, my Republican friends, even though you have opposed this health care bill, we've made sure it is going to cover you, too, in your time of need. I know you're upset right now. I know you probably think that if you did get wiped out by an illness, or thrown out of your home because of a medical bankruptcy, that you would somehow pull yourself up by your bootstraps and survive. I know that's a comforting story to tell yourself, and if John Wayne were still alive I'm sure he could make that into a movie for you.

But the reality is that these health insurance companies have only one mission: To take as much money from you as they can -- and then work like demons to deny you whatever coverage and help they can should you get sick.

So, when you find yourself suddenly broadsided by a life-threatening illness someday, perhaps you'll thank those pinko-socialist, Canadian-loving Democrats and independents for what they did Sunday evening.

If it's any consolation, the thieves who run the health insurance companies will still get to deny coverage to adults with pre-existing conditions for the next four years. They'll also get to cap an individual's annual health care reimbursements for the next four years. And if they break the pre-existing ban that was passed last night, they'll only be fined $100 a day! And, the best part? The law will require all citizens who aren't poor or old to write a check to a private insurance company. It's truly a banner day for these corporations.

So don't feel too bad. We're a long way from universal health care. Over 15 million Americans will still be uncovered -- and that means about 15,000 will still lose their lives each year because they won't be able to afford to see a doctor or get an operation. But another 30,000 will live. I hope that's ok with you.

If you don't mind, we're now going to get busy trying to improve upon this bill so that all Americans are covered and so the grubby health insurance companies will be put out of business -- because when it comes to helping the sick, no one should ever be allowed to ask the question, "How much money can we save by making this poor bastard suffer?"

Please, my Republican friends, if you can, take a quiet moment away from your AM radio and cable news network this morning and be happy for your country. We're doing better. And we're doing it for you, too.

Yours,
Michael Moore

Sound Bites

I honestly didn't think this would happen but it did.
Yesterday, Scotland released Abdel Basset al-Megrahi, a former Libyan agent jailed for life for the 1988 Lockerbie bombing that killed 270 people, most of them Americans, because he is dying of cancer. He was returned to Libya to live out the three months he supposedly has left.
I am with most people on this. Howsabout looking al-Megrahi in the eye when he asks to go home to die and tell him he should have thought about that before he took the lives of 270 other people.
He was shown compassion after he chose not to show compassion.
Big mistake, Scotland. Big mistake.

Senator Edward Kennedy, terminally ill with brain cancer, has asked state legislative leaders to change the law and let Governor Deval Patrick appoint a temporary replacement upon his death.
As it stands now, Massachusetts would hold a special election months after Kennedy dies to elect a replacement. Kennedy would like the transition to be much quicker because he wants Massachusetts to have full representation in the Senate during that five-month period.
Until 2004, state law called for the governor to appoint a temporary replacement if a Senate seat became vacant, but when John Kerry was running for president that year, the Democratic-controlled state legislature wanted to deny the governor at the time--Mitt Romney--the power to name a successor if Kerry won.
In his letter, Kennedy says that he supported the 2004 law, but added, “I also believe it is vital for this Commonwealth to have two voices speaking for the needs of its citizens and two votes in the Senate during the approximately five months between a vacancy and an election.” he also asked that Governor Patrick “obtain, as a condition of appointment of the interim Senator, an explicit personal commitment not to become a candidate in the special election.”
Edward Kennedy does not want a temporary appointee to run for his seat because he wants "to ensure that whomever received that appointment did not have any head start or advantage in the special election.”
Sounds like a reasonable request. of course, the Republicans aren't going to like it, but then they apparently don't like anything except for adultery.

Out there in the wild, wild west, round Nevada way, the secretary of state's office will begin taking applications from couples who wish to register as domestic partners.
Same- and opposite-sex couples who apply soon will receive their certificates of domestic partnership on October 1.
That's the day a new state law goes into effect extending rights similar to those held by married couples to cohabitating couples, whether gay or straight, who register with the secretary of state's office.
I don't get Nevada. They legalize prostitution. They have gambling and drinking and organized crime and $1.99 All-You-Can-Eat buffets, but they don't like the idea of the gays getting married. I mean, the domestic partnership thing is nice, but it's 'less than' and I don't like it.
See, it's like this, without the gays, who'd wait on all those tourists in all those restaurants; there'd be no bellhops and room service attendants; who'd sew the sequins on the stripper's G-string? Back-up dancers and chorus boys? Not any more!
Nevada needs the gays and should give them whatever they want to keep 'em happy.
Just sayin'.

Michael Moore: "I'm still in a stupor of stunned ecstasy that Obama won. And I approve of most everything he's done, from apologizing to the Iranians for America overthrowing their democratically elected president in 1953 to appointing Kumar to a White House position. He is doing the best he can with the mess he inherited, and I and millions of others are counting on him never to forget that he came from the working class and that his people need him now more than ever. As for the congressional Democrats, what a bunch of losers -- weak, scared, stupid. They had better get a clue pretty quick or the Dark Forces will return."

The Iowa Civil Rights Commission, a seven-member bipartisan panel whose duty is "to enforce state and federal statutes that prohibit discrimination in employment, public accommodations, housing, education and credit by investigating and litigating civil rights complaints," voted unanimously yesterday that it would formally oppose any effort to overturn any constitutional amendment that would overturn the state's same-sex marriage law. In addition, the panel also voted to formally support the decision of the Iowa Supreme Court in allowing same-sex couples to marry.
You know, for one of the squares states in the middle, Iowa sure is progressive.
I've said it before, but it bears repeating: I Heart Iowa!
