Bobservations

Y’all know I’m a sucker for Dexter; I watched the first series—and it’s rerunning on Showtime as we speak and I’m watching it again—and I watched the actual series finale last year. But now I am hearing that a 10-episode all new original drama series, Dexter Original Sin, set in 1991 Miami will start this Fall. I cannot wait, but Carlos, on the other hand, said this to me:

“Should I be worried again about your obsession with Dexter?”

“Only if you see my buying heavy duty industrial strength plastic sheeting by the thousand-yard rolls and giant garbage bags.”

Just sayin’.

This Tuxedo memory is from November 2019 and is another episode of ‘Tuxedo Went To The Vet.’

'As I said last week, Tuxedo went to the vets about him licking the fur off his front leg. He was given some medication, and some wipes to clean the area. The wipes were easy, but the medication had to be given through a dropper orally, which meant holding Tuxedo down and shoving the dropper in his mouth and giving him the medication.

So, twice a day I would take a towel and wrap it around Tuxedo, exposing just his head and keeping his paws from grabbing at me, and then Carlos would force the medication into his mouth. After the first dose, as soon as he saw the towel, Tuxedo knew what was coming; he didn’t run, but he wrapped his front paws around my neck and tried to climb me to get away. It was quite the struggle, but we finished his round of antibiotics the other day.

And I will give Tuxedo props for not holding a grudge; as soon as he had the meds, he got a treat, and then would crawl into my lap and go to sleep.

He really is a good boy … and thrilled to be “off the dropper.’

Man, that was a chore; that was one strong cat.

Tim Walz, the Democratic vice-presidential nominee, has accelerated his preparations for his debate with admitted lair and couchfvcker,  JD Vance, by holding in policy sessions and mock debates in his home state and on the road.

Walz’s team has enlisted Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to play Vance in debate rehearsals; my question is: how did Pete dumb himself down, and fill his head full of nonsensical rants, to play JD?

This is how my mind works: what if umbrellas were meant to be called brellas but the person who invented them hesitated?

Tennis legend Billie Jean King will make history this month as the first solo female athlete awarded the Congressional Gold Medal.

Brava, Billie!

Corey DeAngelis, a conservative education reform advocate who has espoused anti-LGBTQ+ sentiments has, er had, a secret career in gay adult films.

Why is it that the most viral and vocal homophobes are the ones shaking their dicks in gay porn?

Corey??? Corey????

Well, the end is near … after eight months my father’s estate will be closing in a couple of weeks and everything will be settled.

A few hiccups along the way—the first attorney passed away as we began the process—but everything seems set to finalize.

I will probably head back to Oregon to close a few things out and transfer some things to my brother—he and my sister-in-law will be taking Dad’s house—and then ::: big sigh :::

I still miss my dad something fierce; with all that’s going on in this country right now, he and I would have, could have, should have, had some great conversations. I still have them, but they play mostly in my head.

That’s the way of the world, I guess.

The other day at work, one of our interns was telling a story about a former co-worker who’d had testicular cancer and everyone started calling him No Nuts. And because I cannot help myself, I said:

“I worked at a place where we had a guy called No Nuts.”

“Did he have testicular cancer, too?”

“No. He only had one eye. But he was a ball-less little dick.”

I have an appointment at HR again next week.

First story: as we inch toward Halloween I would like to share the three scariest words in my life; it’s Carlos saying:

“I … was … thinking … ”

Shivers.

Second story: because we are such true romantics, we decided that the 20th anniversary gift is garden equipment, so we bought a new lawn mower.

Who said romance is dead? Not me!

If you were looking for a good reason to vote, Tuxedo says you should think of it like this:

I am dying over here because my favorite serial killer is coming back to TV.

Showtime has announced that Dexter will be back next year, with star Michael C. Hall, for 10 new episodes.

I’m here for the Bay Harbor Butcher again.

Merriam-Webster dictionary has changed “sexual preference” to be an “offensive” term  after SCOTUS nominee Amy Coney Barrett used the term—twice—and didn’t acknowledge it, or faux-pologize, until Senator Mazie Hirono took her to task for it; the dictionary says:

“The term preference as used to refer to sexual orientation is widely considered offensive in its implied suggestion that a person can choose who they are sexually or romantically attracted to.”

Merriam-Webster confirmed the change was made because of Barrett’s homophobia.

It’s not just ReTHUGlicans who are despicable, sometime Democrats are just as asshatted.

Last week Georgia state Representative Vernon Jones, a conservative MAGAt-loving, _____-supporting Democrat, crowdsurfed over a packed, mostly maskless crowd at ______’s superspreader rally in Macon.

Again, I don’t wish the virus on anyone, but if Jones were to come down with COVID-19 I might not really care.

From the Stupid File comes ______, who warned a crowd at a Corona-palooza rally in Nevada that Joe Biden would “listen to the scientists” if elected.

Oh no! Not science! ______ then added:

“If I listened totally to the scientists, we would right now have a country that would be in a massive depression.”

I guess millions and millions out of work doesn’t matter as long as the markets go up.

Cast a goddamned vote!!

More stupid? CNN analyst and New Yorker contributor Jeffrey Toobin was caught masturbating on a Zoom “election simulation” in front of prominent journalists and producers.

Seriously? A grown-ass man in the middle of a zoom call, takes a break and decides to whip out his dick for a few strokes, without turning off the camera?

The New Yorker has suspended Toobin, and he has taken a leave from CNN.

Moving on to The Liar File … a few weeks ago ______ said he would spend up to $100 million of his own money on his reelection bid. Cut to October and ______ has contributed about $8,000.

Maybe he doesn’t really want it this time … or he’s broke … so let’s give him his wish.

Cast a goddamned vote!

Last week SCOTUS declared that Pennsylvania mail-in ballots that are received up to three days after the election must be counted,  and this week a U.S. federal appeals court left in place North Carolina’s plan for counting absentee ballots that arrive after Election Day.

A smackdown for _____,  but a win for democracy and free and fair elections.

Despite a federal judge's order that the US reunite families separated at the border under _____’s "no tolerance" immigration policy, the parents of 545 children still can't be found.

Thanks America; you’re complicit in stealing children from their parents. How proud we must be.

This week Pope Francis called for the passage of civil union laws for same-sex couples.

Look at that! The Pope and, by extension, the Catholic Church, have finally arrived … in 2000. How long before they join the rest of us in 2020?

After all this rubbish, I need a beefy hunk to cleanse my palate … so here’s Tom Berklund, an out Broadway actor, singer, dancer, and, as you can see, a very hot man.

He sings, he dances, he poses in his underwear …

Random Musings

When some folks put their foot in their mouths, they really put their foot in it.
Celeste Greig, of the conservative California Republican Assembly, a GOP volunteer organization that Ronald Reagan coincidentally once called "the conscience of the Republican Party" was criticizing those months old controversial comments about rape and pregnancy made by former Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin, when she decided to throw in her two-cents.
Celeste Greig: "That was an insensitive remark. I'm sure he regretted it. He should have come back and apologized. …  Granted, the percentage of pregnancies due to rape is small because it's an act of violence, because the body is traumatized. I don't know what percentage of pregnancies are due to the violence of rape. Because of the trauma the body goes through, I don't know what percentage of pregnancy results from the act."
So, it isn’t superhero female hormones that can’t fight off Rapist Sperm, it’s the trauma of the rape that fights off Rapist Sperm.
The GOP, rebranding itself as the same old GOP.
In case you’d forgotten, the American Family Association [AFA] is still pissed off at Home Depot for being LGBT-friendly. In their latest press release:
The Home Depot just gave $8,500 to the Atlanta chapter of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) as a "Silver" sponsor of the Atlanta Gala Dinner and Auction in May.  HRC is the nation's largest and most aggressive gay marriage advocacy group, leading the charge to the Supreme Court against California's constitutional amendment protecting marriage as between one man and one woman.  Customers who shop at Home Depot should know that a portion of their purchase will be used to help push the legalization and promotion of homosexual marriage in America. AFA is promoting a boycott of Home Depot until it agrees to remain neutral in the homosexual culture war.
In related news, since the AFA launched this boycott a couple of years ago, Home Depot's stock value has just about tripled.
Thanks AFA! Doing your part to boost the economy by helping pro-LGBT businesses boom!
Train, which apparently is some rock band from San Francisco—I’m assuming they’ve had at least one hit—has bowed out of the Boy Scouts Jamboree following pressure from GLAAD, Eagle Scout Derek Nance, and over 3,000 people who signed a Change.org petition to do so. In fact, Train took to their website to break the news:
When we booked this show for the Boy Scouts of America we were not aware of any policy barring openly gay people from participation within the organization. Train strongly opposes any kind of policy that questions the equality of any American citizen. We have always seen the BSA as a great and noble organization. We look forward to participating in the Jamboree this summer, as long as they make the right decision before then.
Carly Rae Jepsen was also scheduled to perform and she dropped out as well, Tweeting her reason:
As an artist who believes in equality for all people, I will not be participating in the Boy Scouts of America Jamboree this summer ....
Nice to see people putting their words to action. When and if, the BSA decides to be inclusive and not homophobic, I’m betting Train and Jepsen will be the first to sign up and perform.
Say it isn’t so …. The upcoming eighth season of Dexter will be the final season in the series.
It all came about when CBS president and CEO Les Moonves referred to the new season of the series as its “last.”
There are some who say the show had run its course, but they’re idiots.
I’m’a miss me some Dexter.
Speaking of great TV shows, we learned this week that Valerie Harper--that's the real Valerie on the right, and Valerie as Tallulah Bankhead in a one-woman show on the right--AKA Rhoda Morgenstern of The Mary Tyler Moore Show has inoperable brain cancer and just a few months to live.
I loved her on Mary; the wisecracking best friend. I mean, that’s the role I was born to play. But what I’ve loved about Valerie Harper all these years is the dignity with which she lives her life. While she sat for an interview with People to discuss her cancer, it wasn’t a pity party at all. It was a story about living for today, because, sadly, you don’t always get a tomorrow.
This isn't Harper's first bout with cancer, however; she was previously diagnosed with lung cancer in 2009, despite being a life-long non-smoker.  After surgery successfully removed the tumor, she spoke about her status as a cancer survivor, saying, "I'm of the thinking that we're all terminal; no one is getting out of this alive. So you shouldn't start sitting Shiva before it’s time. Live the best life you can. Be as healthy as possible."
Now, facing a far too shortened life, she says, "I don't think of dying. I think of being here now."
Lesson learned, Valerie, and thanks for making us laugh, and cry, and think, for all these years.
Last week I posted a story about the two gay men, Ben Allen and Justin Hudgins, who had planned a wedding reception at the All Occasion Party Place and were turned down because the venue rents for all occasions except those that have anything to do with gay folks.
Well, after the story broke, someone took a can of spray-paint to the fence of the Allen-Hudgins’ home and wrote the words, ‘Burn Fag’ on it.
You know, because gay folks planning a party deserve to die, I’m guessing; at least in Texas.
But, after that story broke, the neighborhood rallied together and spent the weekend re-painting the fence at the Everman home of Ben Allen and Justin Hudgins.
Turns out not all Texans are hateful and narrow-minded.
So, I don’t like Taylor Swift.
Annoying, cloying, boring, can’t sing, phony.
And the butt of an Amy Poehler and Tina Fey joke at The Golden Globes about her penchant for serial-dating-and-dumping young boys and then turning that, ahem, tragedy into some kind of corn pone pop music mess-terpiece.
When Swifty was asked about that globes joke, she said, “You know, Katie Couric is one of my favorite people… Because she said to me she had heard a quote that she loved, that said, ‘There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women.’”
So, I’m guessing Swifty thinks Poehler and Fey will be going to Hell, and by Hell, I mean Swifty will probably turn it into a song that will haunt Tina and Amy, and the entire world, for eons.
But, members of the press wanted to know what Tina and Amy had to say about what Swifty said about what they said….following me?....and ran to Amy Poehler, who said: “Aw, I feel bad if she was upset. I am a feminist and she is a young and talented girl. That being said, I do agree I am going to hell, but for other reasons. Mostly boring tax stuff.”
Suh-nap!
Just because......
Jonny Lee Miller, smolderingly sexy as Sherlock Holmes in Elementary, and the dee-lish David Giuntoli in the fairytale-cop-drama Grimm.
Must Drool TV.

Random Musings

A little on The Debate:
The moderator, Jim Lehrer, seemed out of his element and really unable to control the debate.
Romney came out strong, though basically said nothing—unless you call Killing Big Bird important—and, well, every time I saw his arrogant little smirk, while Obama spoke, I turned into Elvis Presley and looked for a gun to shoot out my TV set.
Obama seemed like he wanted to be somewhere else, and didn’t really get off too many points. What was with the whole “head down” thing?
Hopefully the next debate will bring back Obama and he’ll mop the floor with Mittsy.

Sidenote: Mittsy.
I am seriously annoyed by the fact that he says he has all these great ideas to fix every single problem that ails us, but he won’t tell us about them
Guess what? I have a way to harness the sun’s energy so we’ll never have to really on foreign oil again, but I won’t tell you until I have $100 billion from investors.
Yeah, it’s like that.
Dexter is back and I’m loving it. At the end of last season, we found Dexter just killing the Doomsday Killer when his sister Deborah walked in. He was caught. Would he get out? Could he?
This season started with him telling Deborah he’d snapped, and was sorry, and it looked like the writers would take the easy cliffhanger route and just deny deny deny.
Except :::SPOILER ALERT:::: at the end of the episode, when Dexter came home to find Deborah in his house, with his killing bag, his knives, his files, and his blood slides.
It’s gonna be good.
Also good is Homeland—which officially makes Sunday night the most watched TV night in our house. I mean, The Amazing Race, Once Upon A Time, Dexter, Copper, Homeland, Revenge and 666 Park Avenue. Thank god for a little thing I call The DVR.
And let’s have a rousing Huzzah for MSNBC anchor Thomas Roberts and his longtime partner Patrick Abner who were married over the weekend in New York City.
Hottie California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom officiated at the ceremony.
Best wishes to both men.
I’m still amazed that this happens, though not everywhere, not yet.
Okay, I may piss people off, but this new version of Steel Magnolias is kinda bugging me.
Every time it gets mentioned, they call it a new version of a “classic.” Um, I tend to think of Gone With The Wind, Casablanca, All About Eve as classics, not some, reasonably good movie that came out 23 years ago.
It’s not a classic remake, it’s a remake.
Remember how I said Romney has all these plans for the country but won’t divulge them until he’s elected? Yeah, now his Little Boy, Paulie Lyin’ Ryan is doing it, too.
When Ryan appeared on FOX News Sunday's Chris Wallace, Wallace pressed Ryan to explain, mathematically, how the Romney-Ryan tax plan would lower taxpayer bills by 20 percent without costing anything, and Paul Ryan said: “I don’t have the ... It would take me too long to go through all of the math."
Or, you don’t know how it works because it doesn’t work.
According tony Magazine:
“Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are understandably reluctant to explain the specifics their tax plan, because then they'd have to admit that it is mathematically impossible for them to institute their proposed cuts for the rich without raising the middle-class's tax burden.”
Adds the Daily Kos:
Ryan is straight-up using his reputation as the Republican party's big budget wonk to get out of giving direct answers to any actual budget wonking questions. Because from his point of view, "I don't want to get too wonky" or "I don't have the time" are more palatable answers than "if I gave you details you'd see that I've been lying."
Just say No to Ruin/Lyin, er, Romney/Ryan.
Good news outta Maine.
A new poll shows that "the referendum proposal to legalize same-sex marriage in Maine leads 57 percent to 36 percent, with 7 percent saying they are undecided."
This is good. This means the people of Maine are voting for equality. We’ve had judges enforce equality, and legislatures vote equality, and now the public follows suit.
It’s a trend, I tell ya.
On the flip side….
In England, the Christian Institute, citing an the Office of National Statistics survey that found that 2.6% of people questioned identified themselves as either lesbian, gay or bisexual, begs the question of why let The Gays marry? There aren’t many of them so let’s just let bigotry and inequality stand!
Although groups like Stonewall have long estimated the LGB population to be around 10%, the findings of the Office of National Statistics survey says 1.5% are gay men, 0.7% are lesbian, and 0.4% are bisexual.
were that 1.5 per cent of men say they are gay, 0.7 per cent of women say they are lesbian, and 0.4 per cent of people say they are bisexual, which caused Mike Judge of the Christian Institute, to say, “It is staggering that such a monumental change is being carried out on behalf of a tiny proportion of society.”
Yes, because we aren’t many, this group of, ahem, “Christians,” think its fine to just let The Gays be less than.
Of course, the poll doesn’t take into consideration how many people refused to answer the question, out of a sense of fear, out of being closeted, out of thinking, ‘Why are you asking this?’ So the actual number of gay folks in England could be, and probably is, higher.
But whatever the number, does it make sense to deny equality to people based on the numbers of those people?

And finally, a funny Tweet about last night's debate:

Michele Bachmann told FauxNews that she'd pick either Donald Trump or Rick Santorum to be her VP.
I don't know which is funnier, her choices, or the fact that she thinks she'll be president.

Sherman Frederick is a columnist, and a bit of a douchenozzle.
It seems that Sherm got his granny pants into a twist after listening to President Obama's weekly address, called: “On Thanksgiving, Grateful for the Men and Women Who Defend Our Country.”
Obama had the audacity to refer to Thanksgiving as a "celebration of community." You know, like the Pilgrims and the Native Americans, all those years ago, in a celebration of community, ALLEGEDLY shared a meal.
Holy Rollin' Douche Sherman Frederick says that "Somebody ought to remind Obama (and his speechwriter) that when Americans sit down around a meal today and give thanks, they give thanks to God."
Not everybody Sherman. Not everybody.
And that's what Obama meant. Asshat.

I like some news that makes me smile.
Chaz Bono has asked his girlfriend, Jennifer Elia, to marry him, and she said 'Yes.'
Congratulations and best wishes to the happy couple.

Horses could soon be butchered in the United States for human consumption after Congress quietly lifted a 5-year-old ban on funding horse meat inspections.
To that i say, Neighhhhhhhhhhhh.

Check Nigeria off my list of places to get married.
The Senate there voted this week to pass the bill mandating that gay couples who marry will be sent to prison, and anyone who helps them, even as a witness, gets prison time too.
It's not clear if the bill would then go to Nigeria's House of Representatives or to President Goodluck Jonathan for his approval, but.......seriously Nigeria.
Knock it off.

Hey Herman Cain?
My watch says fifteen past the hour.
Times up. You've been a laugh riot, but, let's all address the elephant in the room.
You won't be president.
Move along now.

From the bookshelf.
I have this habit of reading two, and sometimes three, books at a time. Now, they have to be very different types of books so i don't get confused. I mean, I don't read a pair of Stephen Kings....that would be weird.
Book One: The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. It's the story of a woman who died from cancer in 1951, and doctors removed some of her cancerous cells--without her permission or knowledge--and those cells have never died.
Her cells, the HeLa cells, have been used in all sorts of experiments--they've even been to the Moon!--and made millions of dollars and created a new industry. And her family never knew.
It's not just a story of medicine and cells and science, because, well, that ain't my bag, but it's also the story of racism in this country, then and now, and how one small, what some in the medical field might consider minor, procedure, changed the life of a family, and changed the world.
Good stuff.
Book Two: Carrie Fisher's Shockaholic. It tells the story of her addiction to drugs, her thoughts of suicide, and her choice at using electro-convulsive therapy--AKA shock therapy--to feel better.
Heavy stuff, indeed, but if anyone can make sense of it all, and give you a giggle, a snort, and, at times, even a belly laugh, it's Carrie Fisher.
She makes light of the dark like no one else.

Dexter.
Loving it.
That's all.

Random Musings

I sometimes wonder if there are any new ideas left in Hollywood. all those old TV shows are being remade, and there are "reboots" of movies that are scarcely older than a toddler.
Now, Marc Cherry, the man behind Desperate Housewives--which is ending it's run this season--has come up with a 'new' idea. or a reboot of some other show. Or, simply, Desperate Housewives 2.0.
Cherry has a new hourlong soap coming to ABC called Devious Maids; hmmm, "desperate" to "devious" and "housewives" to "maids". Sounds like the same thing in a different package.Oh, except that this show, an adaptation of a Mexican telenovela called The Disorderly Maids Of The Neighborhood, will center on a group of Latina women who are maids in Beverly Hills. It seems that these women, all maids at the same residential condo community, where life is very Wisteria-Lane-like, until a body is discovered in a pool, and all the maids find themselves in the middle of it. kind of like how Susan, Bree, Gabby and Lynette, found themselves in "the middle of it" when they neighbor, Mary Alice, killed herself.
Perhaps Cherry should have called it The Real Maids Of Beverly Hills and co-opted another show in the process. [source]

A lot is being made of a kiss between ALLEGEDLY straight actors, Ashton Kutcher and Jon Cryer, on 2.5 Men this week. I didn't see it because, well, I loathe Cryer, and I like Kutcher only scarcely better than I like Charlie Sheen. But what gets me is all the fuss about "The Kiss". Two straight male characters kissed?
Woo-freakin'-hoo.
I wanna see a show with fully formed gay characters that kiss, and where the kiss isn't used for shock value or to get a laugh, it's just affection shown between two men. Save that phony Ratings Kiss for someone else.

Marco Rubio, GOP and Tea Party darling, lied. I know. Big surprise. i think the bigger surprise will be when a politician doesn't lie, but I digress.
See, Rubio, a Republican senator from Florida, has long loved telling the story of being the “son of exiles,”Cuban Americans forced off their beloved island after “a thug,” Fidel Castro, took power. Oops, except that's not really accurate.
A review of documents--including naturalization papers and other official records--shows that Rubio has, um, embellished the facts. In fact, those documents show that Rubio’s parents came to the United States and were admitted for permanent residence more than two-and-a-half years before Castro’s forces overthrew the Cuban government and took power on New Year’s Day 1959.
Well, maybe his parents were psychic and they saw it coming? Or maybe Rubio is simply a liar. And someone who has thrown his own parents under the bus, claiming he's just telling the stories his parents told him, and that he knows nothing of those documents. [source]

I love me some Dexter.
Which is kinda weird to say that one loves a show about a serial killer killing serial killers, but it's very well written and acted, and has some fascinating characters.
And now it has a new, very hot character in Mike Anderson, a new detective on the show.
And he's played by the delicious Billy Brown.
Good writing.
Good acting.
Billy Brown.
What's not to love.
