Random Musings

Madonna took a tumble the other night at the Brit Awards after a dancer tried to remove a cape she was wearing. She recovered — and the track  kept playing — and carried on like a trouper, though I wondered if she should re-title some of her songs …

Like A Prayer [That I Don’t Break a Hip]
MedicAlert™ Girl
Take A Fall
True Bruise
La Isla Boniva™
Don’t Cry For Me Argentina

Okay, that one stays the same.
So, Donny Osmond was unnerved by the sight of NPH in his briefs at the Oscars and Tweeted ‘#noclass’ for a man to appear in his underwear onstage during a performance.

Osmond apparently had no issues with appearing onstage 2,000 times in a loin cloth, though.

#hypocrite #STFU
Speaking of the Oscars … where the hell was Joan Rivers during the In Memoriam” segment? She directed a feature film, she appeared in feature films, she did voices for feature films, and she was a staple on the Oscar red carpet and she gets the snub?

Apparently, according to an Oscar drone, they just didn’t have room for Rivers:

“Joan Rivers is among the many worthy artists and filmmakers we were unfortunately unable to feature in the In Memoriam segment of this year’s Oscar show. She is, however, included in our In Memoriam gallery on Oscar.com.”

Oh, good, they put her on the web.

Shame on you, Oscar, and shame on you for leaving out Elaine Stritch, too.
In Coming Out news … retired minor league baseball player Jason Burch has publicly come out as gay, saying that, while he was open about his sexuality to teammates who asked — one asked if he had a girlfriend, and Burch said he did not and that he was into guys — he wishes he’d been more open to people who didn't ask him about it directly, and says he would do it differently if he had to chance:

"Looking back, I wish I had told the whole world that I'm gay from day one. That feeling of being relied upon, that people must turn to you as a closer to make things right, to have that role - and to have people have that feeling about me in that role - as a gay man, I think that would have been a powerful message. If we are talking about changing people's opinions, I do think that would have been a powerful message. But I wasn't really thinking about that at the time."

Burch quit baseball in 2008 and received a law degree a few years later. He's now practicing law in Chicago and has been with his partner since 2012.

And, so naturally, we here at HOMO HQ send him our best regards for Coming Out, as well as a copy of The Gay Agenda and the Obligatory Coming Out Toaster Oven.

Welcome out, Jason.
Boy, what they won’t do down there in Alabama to keep The Gays out of marriage.

Justice Glenn Murdock wrote a two-page opinion on the ruling that marriage equality should rule in Alabama, and said that Alabama, rather than allowing it’s gay and lesbian citizens the rights and privileges of marriage, that marriage should just be banned altogether.

M’kay. That’s a little extreme, even for a wingnut with a gavel, but, well, let’s do it; but start with your own please. Get off the bench, hang up the robe, put your gavel back in its museum case, get in the Mercedes and drive home and tell your wife you’re not married any more. And tell your children they’re all just bastard children, too.

And then STFU.
We’ve been watching The Slap on NBC for the past couple of weeks. When I read the synopsis—a tale of what happens when one man reprimands the child of another man by slapping him—my first thought was, That’s a show?

Talk about a show about nothing … and not in the Seinfeld way.

But then I read that was an 'event' program, and not planned on as a regular series, so, well, we watched. And it was good … and hot.

It doesn’t hurt that it stars — from top left, and then clockwise — Thomas Sadoski, Penn Badgley, Peter Sarsgaard and my personal openly gay hottie, Zachary Quinto.

But, word of caution, NBC: don’t make this into a whole show, please?
So, the Justice Department announced that they are closing their investigation into the murder of Trayvon Martin, who was gunned down by serial criminal George Zimmerman three years ago. Federal prosecutors concluded that there was not sufficient evidence to prove that Zimmerman had intentionally violated Martin's civil rights, and as such they will not be charging Zimmerman … which basically means that Zimmerman, who murdered Martin, committed no crime, at least not the way dumbass laws are written in Florida.

The good news, if there really is any, is that Zimmerman has had a string of encounters with the police, both before and after the shooting, and virtually all of them involve him being violent, so, like OJ Simpson, another murderer, Zimmerman will most assuredly spend a great deal of time locked up one day.

Fingers crossed.
In American Horror Story news, the new season is to be titled American Horror Story: Hotel and will see Lady Gaga taking part, in an as yet undisclosed role.

It might be, could be, a kind of Shining season of AHS and when you think about it, Gaga already has a closet full of horrific clothes to wear.

Waiting to see how this pans out …
It's hard coming out as gay or lesbian to your family, and, I'm sure, even harder coming out as transgender. But wouldn't it be nice if the parents of our transgendered brothers and sisters had parents like this:

Homophobia Is An Osmond Family Value.

Well, this comes as no surprise really. I mean, Donny Osmond is a huge homophobe, as I have posted before HERE, so why be surprised that his lesser-known, other brother, Alan Osmond, who serves on the high council of the Orem Suncrest Stake for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has written an anti-gay article for the Mormon website The Family.
Oh yeah, for the record, The Family is run by “The Osmond Network LLC” and is linked to by the“Official Osmond Family Website”.
Homophobia is an Osmond family value.
And since he is an expert, I guess, Osmond's ill-informed "article" states that being gay is not genetic and that reperative therapy, AKA Good Old Pray Away The Gay, does, in fact, work.  He quotes LDS President and Head Homphobe Gordon B. Hinckley who says: “Prophets of God have repeatedly taught through the ages that practices of homosexual relations, fornication, and adultery are grievous sins. Sexual relations outside the bonds of marriage are forbidden by the Lord. We affirm those teachings.”
But, um, here is some of what Alan Osmond thinks, in his own bigoted words:
First, it is important to understand that homosexuality is not innate and unchangeable. Research has NOT proved that homosexuality is genetic. Even more important, many researchers whose studies have been used to support a biological model for homosexuality have determined that their work has been MISINTERPRETED.  What is clear is that homosexuality results from an interaction of social, biological, and psychological factors. These factors may include temperament, personality traits, sexual abuse, familial factors, and treatment by one’s peers.Developmental factors aside, can individuals diminish homosexual attraction and make changes in their lives? Yes. There is substantial evidence, both historical and current, to indicate this is the case. Jeffrey Satinover, M.D., a former Fellow at Yale University and a graduate of MIT and Harvard, concludes:“The fact that not all methods of treating those who struggle with homosexual attraction are successful, and that no method is successful for everyone, has been distorted by activists into the claim that no method is helpful for anyone. … The simple truth is that, like most methods in psychiatry and psychotherapy, the treatment of homosexuality has evolved out of eighty years of clinical experience, demonstrating approximately the same degree of success as, for example, the psychotherapy of depression.” Other researchers note treatment success rates that exceed 50 percent, which is similar to the success rates for treating other difficulties.
First off, Al, you delusional asshat. If you wish to live your life as a homophobe, bigot, hater, whose words will no doubt be used by someone, adult or child, to bully or harm, a gay man or woman, well, then, that's up to you. Dumbass.
Sure, there are people who "struggle" with being gay, but it isn't because they can change it, or wish to change it, or hope to change it, it's because they live in a world with people like you, who condemn them, and us, and me, for simply being ourselves. And no amount of "research" done by anyone can change that.
Your homophobic bent leads many LGBT people to live in fear, to cower in silence, and to take their own lives because you make them feel as though they are somehow "less than."
Well, Al, I have news for you. You, your brother, and any members of your family and your church who share your bigoted world-view, are the ones who are less than.
Less than intelligent.
Less that accepting.
Less than tolerant.

Donny Donny Donny

This was found on Donny.com, where Donny, dear sweet shy stupid naive Donny, spoke of his stance on gay marriage--the parts in bold white giant text are some of his more ignorant statements:

"My beliefs about marriage is beautifully stated in The Family - A Proclamation To The World, a document published by the leaders of our church back in 1995. I am going to include it here:

We warn that individuals who violate covenants of chastity, who abuse spouse or offspring, or who fail to fulfill family responsibilities will one day stand accountable before God. Further, we warn that the disintegration of the family will bring upon individuals, communities, and nations the calamities foretold by ancient and modern prophets. We call upon responsible citizens and officers of government everywhere to promote those measures designed to maintain and strengthen the family as the fundamental unit of society.

"There are many gay individuals that are members of our church. I know many of them. In fact, some of my best friends are gay. You ask how I react regarding their marriages. Well, I do support our Church leaders who say that we can accept those with gay tendencies in our church as long as they do not act upon their temptations. Everyone has tenancies to succumb to temptation, but we all have the same standard given to us by our Father in Heaven. Whether we may be tempted to be immoral with members of our own sex or of the opposite sex, we are expected to live chaste lives. This is very well explained not only in the Book of Mormon, but in the Bible as well.

"You see, the whole beauty of God's plan is that we all have our free agency to live our lives the way we want to live them. Personally, I believe in the words stated above and that they came from a living prophet, so I abide by them.

"We all determine for ourselves what is right and what is not right for our own lives and how we live God's commandments. I am not a judge and I will never judge anyone for the decisions they make unless they are causing harm to another individual. I love my friends, including my gay friends. We are all God's children. It is their choice, not mine on how they conduct their lives and choose to live the commandments according to the dictates of their own conscience. I hope this helps. Sincerely, Donny Osmond.

Donny? Honey? No.............No.

Some of your best friends are gay and yet you want them relegated to second-class citizen denied equal rights under the law. With friends like you.....blah blah blah. I have always hated that "Some of my best friends are (insert minority here)" line of crap. Just say it, Donny; you go to a church that demonizes homosexuality, that causes gay men and women to be driven from their churches and their families because of who they love. Sounds so nice, Donny, so nice.

As for my gay tendencies, Donny, do you have straight tendencies? And what are they? Singing and dancing in a loin cloth on Broadway? Be careful, Donny. Be careful. There are people who think that makes you gay. You might be next to get the Mormon boot on your backside. Being gay is not a tendency, a lifestyle, or a choice; just like being straight is none of those things.

And yet you say it: "It's their choice...." Did you get into a line that I missed? The one where you get to 'choose' to be gay or straight? Because I didn't see the line. And if there is a choice, how did you choose straight? Did you have a gay experience and then choose to be straight because you didn't like it? Chinese food over Italian food is a choice. Nike over Reebok is a choice. Gay or straight, is not.

Now, you have a right to your religious beliefs no matter how backward they seem to me. You can worship where you want, how you want, with whom you want. What you don't have a right to do, Donny, is trample on my rights as a citizen of this country because of your religion.

Donny Donny Donny. Grow up.
