I Didn't Say It ...

Kim Kardastrophe, on her recent exchange with model Tyson Beckford which prompted accusations of homophobia after she referred to him as “sis” and suggested he was gay:

“Really, dude? Like, you’re going to body-shame me? Like, okay, okay, okay sis. … When I choose to clap back I don’t do it to people who I know are just looking for the come-up. I want to say something so badly. I’ll end you … People were sending me stuff on his page, he keeps on going and going and going, and I’m just like, ‘dude, that’s so female lame’ that’s just lame to me.  And for anyone to say that I am homophobic with the comment of saying sis? All my best friends are gay. I support the community. I love the community, they love me, that has nothing to do with this.”

Um, I’m part of that “the community” and I find you reprehensible, shallow, vain, stupid, a media whore, vapid, talentless. But hey, all my best friends are Armenian-Americans who made a name for themselves with porn tapes that their mothers sold to the highest bidder, so it’s okay if I say that, right?
Stephanie Mills, singer, blasting Sam Smith because he admitted he doesn’t like Michael Jackson’s music:

“Don’t come for MICHAEL JACKSON when you wish you have sold as many records and you wish you were the King of Pop like he was. I’m so tired of you people studying our music, and studying our artist and claiming that you don’t like our music. Go sit your 1 HIT WONDER ass down and learn how to finish a tour. When you can sell as many records as the king of Pop, Michael Jackson then maybe you can say something. So I say to you Mr. Smith have several seats and come for me if you want to.”

Um, Stephanie? He has a right to his opinion, and just because he’s a soul singer doesn’t mean he owes anything to Jackson.
Perhaps you should take a seat.
Stephen Colbert, on Omarosa Unhinged:

“Yet another close adviser to President Trump has betrayed him. The White House is basically a reboot of The Last Supper: Oops All Judases. [But] this is huge. Finally, we have proof that the guy who refused to rent to black tenants, said that a Nazi Klan rally had some ‘fine people,’ and called Africa a sh*thole—is a racist. Tear up your history books. Rewrite the history books. We didn’t know! …  The media’s been all over Omarosa’s Omaroasting of her former boss, but while they’re reporting on it, they’re also dismissing her as unreliable … Yes, she’s a liar and a backstabber with no credibility—exactly like everyone else in the Trump administration … She’s not below anyone else in the White House. She and General Kelly may have completely different pasts, but they have exactly the same future. You can never scrub off the Trump stank.”

Word.
Dogs lying down with dogs, then complaining about fleas.
Terry McAuliffe, former Virginia governor, on _____ and Nazis and last week’s white supremacy rally at the White House:

“To see these neo-Nazis and white supremacists, about a thousand walking down the streets screaming most vile things about members of the African American community about members of the Jewish faith – I’ve never seen anything like it. People used to wear hoods in this country because they this country because they wanted to disguise themselves. They don’t feel the need to do that anymore. I talked to the President that afternoon, explained him the situation, what had been going on, what these people were doing in the city of Charlottesville. When he came out and gave his statement that it was both sides’ fault, I’ve got to tell you, it was shocking to me. It wasn’t both sides. You had one side of neo-Nazis wearing Adolph Hitler T-shirts, the white supremacists screaming obscenities at the African American community walking down the streets. They came armed. There’s a time in your presidency when you need to show moral leadership and you need to stand and send a message to the world. He failed that day.”

And he continues to fail every single day.
Seth Meyers, on Omarosa and Michael Cohen and _____:

“So now we have one liar who admits she lied in the past claiming she’s telling the truth now about the liar she worked for, and a third liar who’s under investigation for lying who taped the first liar to prove he wasn’t lying said the second liar’s lying about the first liar. I’m starting to think none of this happened or they all ate pieces of paper. “

Liars all, and all pretending like they know the truth.
Shepard Smith, Fox News, on the lunacy of Rudy Giuliani:

Much of Giuliani’s attack on Brennan involved the dossier compiled by the former British spy Christopher Steele that the administration has repeatedly asserted was what began the Russia investigation. It was not. The investigation began after the former Trump policy adviser George Papadopoulos told an Australian diplomat that the Russians had dirt on his then-political opponent, Hillary Clinton. That information was passed on to intelligence officials. Giuliani calls that dossier laughable. For context, the research in the dossier includes 17 memos produced by the former spy Christopher Steele. They allege misconduct and a conspiracy between members of the Trump campaign and the Russian government during the 2016 election. Some assertions in the dossier have been confirmed. Other parts are unconfirmed. None of the dossier, to Fox News’ knowledge, has been disproven.”

Well, did anyone expect Rudy to know what he’s talking about? Or to tell the truth?
Charles M. Blowjournalist and op-ed columnist for The New York Times, on _____’s alleged use of the N-word and how his base would love it:

“We would be insane if we kept questioning and saying this is a matter of opinion of whether he’s a racist or not. He is. People have cooked that into the books. I think that if you found the tape of him using the N-word, it might actually increase his support. This does nothing to them, they believe wholeheartedly in this approach, and none of these insults to people who look like me hurt them because it is not them. There is not a betrayal of their belief in him, there is not a betrayal in what they want him to do, this is what they want him to do. This is what they accepted. This is what they want.”

Sad, and scary, to say that his strongest supporters are racists and evangelicals.

I Didn't Say It ...

David Jolly, former Florida GOP Congressman, expressing his distaste for _____ and the GOP:

“Many of us are still looking for answers and looking for leadership within Republican Party. ... _____ is a man with hate in his heart, a small and weak man with a special type of cruelty to insult a woman on the world’s stage over her appearance. He owes Mika Brzezinski an apology, but he’s not going to do it. [And] I can’t overlook the fact that Donald _____ tonight is the face of the Republican Party. The party that once proudly boasted of Lincoln and Ike and [Teddy Roosevelt] and Reagan and the Bushes is now represented by a man who ... insults women and war heroes and immigrants and the disabled. And, as that is Donald _____, that is today’s Republican Party.”

Too bad Jolly isn’t in Congress now because it’d be nice to see at least one Republican stand up against everything _____ stands for.
Delbert Hosemann, Miscopy’s GOP Secretary of State, on _____ and Pence’s request for voter information:

"My reply would be: They can go jump in the Gulf of Mexico, and Mississippi is a great state to launch from. Mississippi residents should celebrate Independence Day and our state's right to protect the privacy of our citizens by conducting our own electoral processes."

Snap.
And from a Republican yet!
Tom Schedler, Louisiana’s GOP Secretary of State, to _____ and Pence:

"The President's Commission has quickly politicized its work by asking states for an incredible amount of voter data that I have, time and time again, refused to release. My response to the Commission is, you're not going to play politics with Louisiana's voter data, and if you are, then you can purchase the limited public information available by law, to any candidate running for office. That's it."

Again, everyone except those in the White House see this info grab for what it is: a way to suppress voters and steal yet another election.
Terry McAuliffe, Virginia’s Democratic Governor, to _____ and Pence:

“This entire commission is based on the specious and false notion that there was widespread voter fraud last November. At best this commission was set up as a pretext to validate Donald _____’s alternative election facts, and at worst is a tool to commit large-scale voter suppression."

It’s a vanity project to appease the bruised ego of the toddler in the White House and no matter how he spins it, he’ll still be the loser of the popular vote.
Andrew Garfield, on how he prepared to play a gay man and how he’s now a “gay man “without the physical act”:

“The preparation had begun before (rehearsals began) with a lot of my friends.  The play is as much devoted to my friends in the gay community as it is those that passed during the [AIDS] epidemic. My only time off during rehearsals—every Sunday I would have eight friends over and we would just watch Ru. I mean every single series of RuPaul’s Drag Race. I mean every series. This is my life outside of this play. I am a gay man right now just without the physical act—that’s all.”

Oh Andrew, I liked you, I did. But this kind of ridiculousness is impossible to forgive.
No one is gay because they watch drag queens; that doesn’t make you gay. And, news flash, tool, not every gay person likes drag queens.
To sort of lump us all into one category is disgusting, and then to suggest that you’re gay because you watch RuPaul—except you don’t have sex with men—is disrespectful and stupid and foolish and deserves an apology to the gay community because it's not a choice..
Then sit down.
Andrew Garfield, then instantly saying he isn’t gay, you know, lest anyone think so:

“As far as I know, I am not a gay man. Maybe I’ll have an awakening later in my life, which I’m sure will be wonderful and I’ll get to explore that part of the garden, but right now I’m secluded to my area, which is wonderful as well.”

Oh, so first you’re all ‘I like drag queens so I must be gay’ and then in the very next sentence you make sure to tell us that you’re straight?
Go fuck yourself ... and if you accomplish that it still won’t make you gay, just another asshat.
Trish Regan, host of Fox News’ Outnumbered, suggesting we murder Kim Jong Un of North Korea as a way to get rid of him:

“There’s one other option here that we haven’t talked about. I know you’re not supposed to go out ... and take out a leader because of international rules, decorum, et cetera, that we have. But if there is a way to get in and get rid of this crazy fat kid—then wouldn’t that do a lot in terms of saving a lot of lives here?”

Another Fox idiot, Jesse Watters, suggested the same thing because taking out a dictator worked out so well in Iraq.
Right?
Jeff Zucker, to the news people at CNN:

“My job is to remind everyone that they need to stay focused doing their job. _____’s trying to bully us, and we’re not going to let him intimidate us. You can’t lose your confidence and let that change the way you conduct yourselves.”

I say fight back harder, and not with childish little videos of fat rich men acting like bullies, but by digging into each and every aspect of that family of grifters, thieves and con artists, and the president, and revealing every vile thing they do.
That’ll teach ‘em, and we’ll all have fun watching.

Hate Bills: Bad News, Good News

Those darned religious Freedom Restoration Acts [RFRAs] are everywhere.

Georgia tried to legislate discrimination using the Bible, and their governor, Nathan Deal, vetoed the bill … using the very same Bible as his reasoning for not allowing discrimination. And North Carolina Republicans did it, and their GOP governor, Pat McCrory, signed it into law instantly because, he thought, that would stop the argument; tell that to the long list of multi-million dollar corporations  demanding he repeal the law and the dozen or so states and cities that are no longer traveling to his state, including, perhaps, the federal government.

So, is that gonna stop any of these other states from trying to pass hate Bills.

Not Mississippi — where I was born, but moved from at age six months before the stupid stuck.

The GOP-dominated House of Representatives in that state voted last Friday to advance what many say is the most hate-filled anti-LGBT legislation in the country. The vote — 69-44 — sent the bill, which had already passed in the Senate, to Governor Phil Bryant, though a last ditch effort by the more reasonable thinking Democrats … Vote Blue! Vote Blue! … caused a delay requiring another vote today. This effort might give enough time for the people in Mississippi who believe in treating everyone equally a chance to convince Bryant, who hasn’t said he’ll sign the bill but has said he believes people of faith need “protection”, not to sign the Hate Law.

House Bill 1523—the Hate Bill—protects individuals, religious organizations, and certain businesses who cite religion as a reason to deny LGBT Mississippians services, and would keep them safe from government retribution. It also allows those who use faith as a weapon the right to deny LGBT citizens access to counseling services, foster care, and adoption services; religious wingnuts county clerks can also recuse themselves from issuing same-sex marriage licenses. The bill protects businesses that provide photography, poetry, videography, disc-jockey services, wedding planning, printing, floral arrangements, dress making, cake or pastry, artistry, wedding-venue rentals, limousine, car-service rentals, jewelry sales and services, or similar marriage-related services from having to do business with The Gays.

In addition, the government also could not penalize a religious organization for denying housing, employment, or services. And it protects people who believe “sexual relations are reserved” to opposite-sex marriages, and that being male or female is “objectively determined by anatomy and genetics at time of birth” and enforces sex-specific policies for employee or student dress or grooming, or concerning access to restrooms, showers, dressing rooms, or locker rooms.

It protects those who decline treatments, counseling, or surgeries related to sex reassignment or gender, identity transitioning, psychological, counseling, or fertility services.
It’s just a complete anti-LGBT hate bill because Mississippi has no law banning LGBT discrimination.

Those on the side of Hate say this is just about same-sex marriage, and allowing people of faith not to have to do business with same-sex couples, but, um, why then does it include provisions for adoption, or fostering children? Why bathrooms and locker rooms and housing and employment discrimination? Why does it allow faith-based discrimination — an oxymoron if I ever heard one — in medical services?

It’s simple … because Gay.

Again, we can hope that Governor Bryant goes the way of Georgia Governor Nathan Deal or the way of Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe who, last week, also vetoed a so-called “religious freedom” bill that came across his desk:
“This legislation is … bad for business and creates roadblocks as we try to build the new Virginia economy. Businesses and job creators do not want to locate or do business in states that appear more concerned with demonizing people than with creating a strong business climate. Legislation that immunizes the discriminatory actions of certain people and institutions at the expense of same-sex couples would damage Virginia’s reputation for commonsense, pro-business government. We need only look at the damage these types of laws are doing in other states to understand the harm this bill could bring to our Commonwealth and its economy.”
Good on McAuliffe and good for Virginia, though i kinda wish he'd said he vetoed the bill because hate is wrong and not because it's bad for business and the almighty dollar; but money is king, you know.
.
All of this nonsense, and there are more laws like this everywhere, just waiting to be passed, makes me wish I owned a business and could then operate my business by deciding who I would and would not serve.

Imagine the outrage if Bob’s Bridal Boutique catered only to atheists and gays; imagine the Christian outrage, the “How dare he”, if I decided I’d pick and choose who bought my cakes, or whose wedding I photographed or to whom I sold a tuxedo.

Imagine the Christians going nuts about that. Imagine the outrage if I opened a diner and  refused to serve Christians at the counter; if I had a special drinking fountain because I didn’t want Christians and wingnuts and Republicans drinking from the same one as the regular folks. Imagine a Christian being forced to sit at the back of the bus.

Imagine.

Virginia Becomes The First State To Eliminate Veteran Homelessness

The GOP loves war, and they just love sending young Americans off to war, but they have no use for them when these soldiers return home, and generally do nothing to help those who have protected us around the world. The Democrats, on the other hand … when Democrats govern real change occurs, and sometimes it’s historic.

The state of Virginia, under Democratic Governor Terry McAuliffe, is the first state in the country to completely eliminate veteran homelessness. McAuliffe signed onto the White House’s challenge to the states to end veteran homelessness, and then beat the deadline by almost two months.

In fact, not only has Virginia provided housing to over 1,400 homeless veterans, it has also instated a security net which allows those veterans to be rehoused within 90 days should they ever become homeless again.

Another plus: in Virginia, of the 7,600 homeless people, nine-percent were veterans, so the state has also reduced its homeless rate by ten-percent.

And it’s not just Virginia; last year Connecticut became the first state to eliminate chronic veteran homelessness — veterans who have been homeless for more than a year — while across the country individual cities like New Orleans, Houston, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, Syracuse, Schenectady, and Las Cruces have stepped up to provide housing for veterans.

Of course, helping veterans out of homelessness is probably one of those “free things” the GOP rails about; one of those “entitlements” that the GOP wants to cut. I mean, clearly we have seen the Republicans do nothing for our veterans once they return home, so the Democrats are taking charge.

It’s clear: the GOP wants to send Americans off the war, and then forget them when they come home, while the Democrats are working to take care of the men and women who have served this country and served it well.

It’s that simple.

I Didn't Say It ....

Lee Daniels, on why he thinks his late father never truly accepted him for being gay:

"He was embarrassed, I think.  And I didn’t understand why he was so hard on me about being gay. And I didn’t realize until after I did The Butler that at that time he was a second-class citizen. And that he was called a n***** . He wasn’t a man.  And so when he saw I was gay, he thought that was even ‘Oh my God this kid, what is this kid going to encounter? It’s bad enough.' So after doing The Butler and doing so much research, I understood where his headset was at and I forgave him and I love him."

His father grew up in a time where his skin color didn’t allow him to eat at certain lunch counters, drink from certain drinking fountains, sit in certain parts of a movie theater or on a bus, so it must have been doubly hard to see your son, thinking he would have to endure those same indignities, come out as gay.
Twice the hate.
Billie Jean King, who will be one of three openly gay U.S. delegates to the Sochi Games, on what it means for openly gay athletes to represent the U.S. presidential delegation:

“When we step off the plane we are part of America. We are what an America looks like. So I think President Obama has done an amazing job on promoting diversity and inclusion. He has been the all-time president for doing that. And he’s showing the Russians, ‘Listen everybody belongs in the United States of America.'"

A picture says a thousand words, and just the idea that our delegation will include openly gay athletes sends a powerful message to the world.
Chris Kluwe, suggesting that evangelical Christian lightning rod Tim Tebow is being shut out of the NFL for the same reasons:

"As much as we are polar opposites on the things we stand for, Tebow is the exact same way...There are backup quarterbacks in the NFL right now that Tebow is certainly better than — he could fill a role with a team. But because he brings this other stuff with him, just like I bring my other stuff with me, teams look at it like, 'Well, we don’t want it. We don’t want players speaking out. We don’t want players doing anything other than football.'"

Shut up and play; or else you’re off the team.
I think Kluwe makes another valid point.
Terry McAuliffe, newly sworn in Governor of Virginia, signing an executive order banning discrimination of LGBT state employees as his first official act as governor:

“My administration is committed to keeping Virginia open and welcoming to all who call our Commonwealth home. Executive Order Number 1 sets the tone for an administration that will not accept discrimination in any form, and one that will work tirelessly to ensure all Virginians have equal opportunity in the workplace, no matter their backgrounds, race, religion, or whom they love.”

Maybe Virginia can turn itself around from the days of Cuccinelli.
David O. RussellAmerican Hustle director, on ‘poor’ Jennifer Lawrence being exhausted, suffering pneumonia and nearly missing awards season because of the hectic production schedule for The Hunger Games:

“I personally think they should give her a bit of breathing room over there because they’re printing money. But she’s a very alive person. … I’ll tell you what it is about that girl — talk about 12 years of slavery, that’s what the franchise is. And I’m going to get in so much trouble for saying that.”

If you knew you’d get in trouble for saying it, why continue speaking?
To compare a professional, highly-paid multi-millionaire actress, who lives the life of a globe-trotting, designer dud wearing, award-winning superstar to that of a person bought and sold and forced to work, and tortured and raped and murdered is the height of stupidity.
Shame on you David O. Russell.
Sean Penn, speaking about the 65 guns he owns at his relief benefit for Haiti:

"Being provoked by this aforementioned strong woman and considering how liberating of bullshit and ugliness it would be not only get rid of the guns I have in the continental United States but also to destroy them, Jeff Koons and I had a chat the other day. The highest bidder gets every single one of my guns put in the hands of this iconic artist and sculptor. Koons will decommission [and] render inactive all of my cowardly killing machines."

Minds can be changed, even Sean Penn’s. And the ‘strong woman’ is said to be Penn’s new girlfriend, Charlize Theron, whose mother shot and killed Theron’s father after enduring years of physical abuse.
PS The winning bidder for not-yet created piece by Koons was Anderson Cooper, who topped Piers Morgan with a $1.4M bid for the charity.

Random Musings

So, there were some elections this week and some rather nice wins, and some rather meh wins, too.

First up, Virginia told Ken “Let Me Regulate Your Vagina and Your Sex Life” Cuccinelli to step off in his bid for governor, and instead elected Democrat Terry McAuliffe.

Nice; but better? Well,  McAuliffe reiterated a campaign pledge to sign two executive orders on the day he takes office in January:
  • One: He would limit the value of any gifts to himself or immediate family to $100. That pledge is a reaction to the gifts scandal that consumed outgoing Governor Robert McDonnell, whose family accepted more than $160,000 in gifts and money.
  • Two: The other executive order, which McAuliffe said he would sign first, will protect LGBT state employees  from discrimination on the job.

Snap.

In New Jersey, Chris Christie was re-elected by a landslide.

And his “acceptance” speech reeked of a campaign stump speech for a 2016 run at the White House. He spent less time talking about the future of New Jersey than he did talking about how to fix politics in Washington.

Something he cannot do as governor but …. that said, I’d never vote Christie for anything given his rock hard stance against same-sex marriage.

PS That's the next cover of Time ... so many meanings.

Last Sunday Carlos and I had a lazy, lazy, day. Some grocery shopping, a little SNL on the DVR. He took a nap while I made dinner, and then we settled in to watch some TV.
As I was flipping through channels one movie caught his eye:

“’The Foreskin’? What’s that? It might be good.”

It’s ‘The Foresaken,” I said, “Keep it in your pants.”

Oy. And get some new glasses!

After Guido Barilla, the big parmesan at Barilla pasta conglomerate, came out and said, basically, that he hates The Gays, lotsa folks decided to try other brands of pasta and now Guido and his company are trying to make it better.’

Last week the company announced a new Diversity & Inclusion Board, a Global Diversity Officer, and participation in the HRC Corporate Equality Index.

Chief Executive Officer Claudio Colzani said:
“Diversity, inclusion and equality have long been grounded in Barilla’s culture, values and code of conduct. They are reflected in our policies and the benefits we provide to all employees, regardless of age, disability, gender, race, religion, or sexual orientation. At the same time, we are committed to promoting diversity further because we firmly believe that it’s the right thing to do.”
That first line cracked me up. Diversity and inclusion have “long been” a part of Barilla?
Someone forgot to tell Guido.

I’ll stick to the Kroger brand of pasta. They’re less expensive, gluten- and hate-free.

So again last Sunday, lazy, lazy, Sunday, Carlos and I couch-potatoed and settled in to watch Revenge. I had made a delicious Apple Cobbler for dessert and, well, I was ready to serve it so I paused the TV and waited for Carlos to ask about dessert. He did not and our game of Who’s The Biggest Baby? began.

I began tapping a box on the table, hoping to drive him crazy enough to ask for dessert, while he looked around the room as if it was his first time in there, trying to ignore.

I tapped; he glanced. I tapped; he glanced. I tapped; he glanced. I tapped; he glanced. I tapped; he glanced. I tapped; he glanced. I tapped; he glanced. I tapped; he glanced. I tapped; he glanced.

For thirty-five minutes until Carlos finally cracked and snarled, ‘All right! I’ll have some cobbler!’

Never.A.Dull.Moment.

Or maybe I should say Never.Adult.Moment?

I loathe Senator, and nasty Grampa, John McCain. I loathed his picking of Mama Grizzly Bore™ back in ’08 and his constant nitpicking at the president because he, McCain, didn’t get to take his turn in the Oval Office.

But this week, as the Senate debated Employment Non-Discrimination Act  [ENDA] and prepared to vote on it, where was John McCain? Doing the Jimmy Fallon Show. McCain was considered a possible backer of ENDA, but he decided to skip the vote so he could guest on a TV program.

And that man said he wanted to be president? I imagine that, on the night the Navy Seals captured and killed bin Laden, a “President” McCain might have been doing Letterman.
Dodged a bullet in ’08.

Now, there were nine senators who missed the ENDA vote, including Senator Claire McCaskill, the only Democrat who didn’t vote. She couldn’t be there because she was attending a funeral, not yucking it up with Jimmy.

And, to make McCain seem even more like a delusional; dick, he told reporters on Tuesday that if he hadn't been taping Fallon's show, he would have voted with the majority to advance ENDA.

Too late, asshat.

Lady Gaga has come up with another publicity stunt: the media hound pop star will sing in outer space in early 2015.

Zero G Colony, a three-day hi-tech music festival, is set to take place at Spaceport America, New Mexico, and the climax of the event will feature Gaga performing the first ever gig in outer space.  She will take off from the Spaceport on board a Virgin Galactic SpaceShip Two spacecraft and, upon reaching space, she will become the first ever-recording artist to perform outside the atmosphere, in zero gravity.

I am reminded of the tagline of the first Alien movie: In space, no one can hear you scream.

Hopefully that  goes for singing, too.

Hostages is rapidly becoming the most ridiculous show on TV. Now, Scandal plays some wild stuff out, but they don’t take themselves so seriously, while Hostages seems to Jump The Shark every week.

Sean Saves The World is a trite little comedy that, if given the chance to evolve, might actually become irreverent and funny. But it’s on NBC so I think the finger is on the cancellation button. Too bad, because Megan Hilty and Linda Lavin are a hoot on that show.

Betrayal? A couple of hot guys and a bunch of twisted subplots.

American Horror Story: Coven? Best.Season.Ever.

And, speaking of AHS:Coven, howsabout a little man candy in the form of Alexander Dreymon. He plays the son of Bible-thumping, tightly wound, Patti LuPone, but he might be a little more fun that he lets on.

Hopefully, though,::::SPOILER ALERT:::: getting sliced down the back by zombies this week won’t end his run on the show, though we’ve seen a couple of times that dying on Coven isn’t necessarily permanent.
