I Didn't Say It ....

Jack Markell, Governor of Delaware, as he signed marriage equality into law:
"I do not intend to make any of you wait one minute longer."

I would say they’ve waited long enough.
Good going Delaware, and Governor Markell.
Another one down, forty more to go. Next stop, Illinois and Minnesota.

President Obama, on supporting LGBT-inclusive immigration reform:
"The LGBT community should be treated like everybody else. That's the essential core principle behind our founding documents. The idea that we're all created equal and we're equal before the law...And so Senator Leahy may present this provision in committee, it may be presented on the floor. It will be one of many amendments and provisions, some of which I support. Some of which I think are really bad ideas...I can tell you I think that the provision is the right thing to do. I'll also tell you that I'm not going to get everything I want in this bill. Republicans are not going to get everything they want in this bill."

That first sentence is all that needs to be said.

Chris Kluweon gays in locker rooms:
"Has there ever been a single reported case of sexual harassment in a professional sports environment by one player toward another? What makes you think that because all of a sudden a player is allowed to openly be himself that he's immediately going to start mounting every guy in sight? Isn't that the very definition of narcissistic tendencies by straight men who think that way? What makes you think you're that player's type, or that he would ever be attracted to you?"

True dat.

Esera Tuaolo, former NFL player and openly gay man, on Jason Collins' coming out:
"What kept me from playing to my full potential is what people need to realize. When you're in the closet and you're living with this crippling secret, you're living with depression, you're living with suicidal tendencies, you're living with blackouts, you're living with stress. That's what I played with, and it was very difficult to play to the best of my ability, to the fullest of my potential when you're carrying all of that with you. What Jason did was absolutely amazing. And I can relate with him when he said when he came out he felt complete. He felt whole."

Straight folks don’t recognize the shame that is a life in the closet because they have never had to be closeted.

Asante Samuel, Atlanta Falcons cornerback, on openly gay NFL player:
"Straight people are not announcing they're straight, so why does everybody have to announce their sexuality or whatever? You know, what they prefer. So that's just how I see it. That's my opinion on things. All respect you know, I have nothing but respect for the people whoever decisions they make and whatever, but you know, you don't have to show it and flaunt it like that. You know what I'm saying, we have kids out here too. I don't think it's something we have to express and let be known of what my sexuality preference is - just stick to sports....I don't want to teach my kids those things. I teach my kids God. You know, how God lives his life."

Oh, Asante, you announce you’re straight every time you talk about a girl. See, gay folks don’t want to announce that we’re gay. I don’t walk into rooms and say, “Hi, I’m, Bob and I am a flaming homosexual.” I might say, “My partner, Carlos …..” I might say “Carlos and I …”
That isn’t an announcement, it’s a conversation. Asshat.

Bishop Thomas Tobin, of Rhode Island, telling Catholics to stay away from same-sex weddings or risk pissing off God:
"At this moment of cultural change, it is important to affirm the teaching of the Church, based on God’s word, that 'homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered,' (Catechism of the Catholic Church, #2357) and always sinful. And because 'same-sex marriages' are clearly contrary to God’s plan for the human family, and therefore objectively sinful, Catholics should examine their consciences very carefully before deciding whether or not to endorse same-sex relationships or attend same-sex ceremonies, realizing that to do so might harm their relationship with God and cause significant scandal to others."

Oh, Bishop Tobin, the tide is changing and you’re going to be left behind and remembered for your hate speech and your homophobia and your bigotry that you spewed in the name of God.
You don’t speak for her any more than you speak for the majority of Catholics.

Tony Casillas, former Dallas Cowboy, saying he knew some gay NFL players:
“I know that I played with homosexual players and I knew this when I was playing. There’s a certain amount of intimacy in the locker room, I’m not talking in a personal way, but intimacy as far as working hard and being that close together, as far as accomplishing something on the football field. The problem is this society. That’s why I applaud Jason Collins for coming out. Being a professional athlete people expect you have this shield around you where you can’t pretty much show your true nature, if you will, and you’re feelings and I think for him to be able to do that — I think there may be a domino effect with this."

There have been gay men in team sports since there have been team sports.
Build a bridge, folks, and get over it.

Alan Keyes, three times failed presidential candidate and three times failed Senate candidate, on the BSA and The Gays:
"The latest proposal for ending the BSA’s ban on homosexual participation in Scouting is a strategic ploy. What is most disturbing is that it uses the young participants in the Scouting movement as cannon fodder in the battle against the natural family. Some youngsters will be positioned to draw other youngsters into situations where, because they react against sexual advances according to the moral precepts of the faith of their fathers, they will be viciously accused of unrighteous bigotry. Or else their vulnerable adolescent emotions will impel them to betray the tenets of conscience derived from their faith, and slip into a whirlpool of compulsive sensual indulgence, moral guilt and spiritual confusion."

Um, if you’re gay, you’re gay. A gay Scout cannot ‘turn’ a straight Scout gay.
And just because people are gay doesn’t make them predators, you ignorant fool.
Sit down already, you’re done here.

Pat Toomey, Republican Senator from Pennsylvania, admitting that many GOP Senators voted against universal background checks simply because Obama supports them:
“In the end it didn’t pass because we’re so politicized. There were some on my side who did not want to be seen helping the president do something he wanted to get done, just because the president wanted to do it.”

It’s not really a surprise because the GOP has spent the last four years, and the next four, and hopefully the four after that and the four after that, stomping their feet and getting their Depends in a bunch because there’s a Democrat in the White House.
The only surprise is Toomey’s acknowledgement of GOP idiocy.
For the record, Toomey voted for expanded background checks.

Charles Barkley, on whether he knew any openly gay professional athletes:
"Of course I did. Everybody did. Everybody played with a gay teammate, and it’ s no big deal. First of all, I think it’s an insult to gay people to think that they’re trying to pick up on their teammates. But everybody has played with a gay teammate .... I had several teammates, I probably had three or four guys I played with in my 16 years. But like I say, think about Jason Collins, he played on six teams, so six teams played with a gay guy. And so, everybody has played with a gay guy, you just didn’t know he was a gay guy. Cause until a gay guy comes out, it’s none of your business.”

Again, it’s not the gay, it’s the player.
Can they do the job? That’s all that matters.

I Didn't Say It........

Steven Andrew, "pastor", on how God controls the US economy: "Christians are called to unite the GOP with Rick Santorum. This is because the Bible says that Mitt Romney opposes Jesus Christ and Christians. Romney is against everything the USA was founded upon. God promises to fix the economy if we vote for mature Christians. God says that the economy declined for taking God out of government, 53-plus million abortions and homosexual sins. Christians understand God controls the economy because He says so in 2Chronicles 7:13-14. Do you believe God? He sends prosperity for obedience and famine for sins"

Now, I'm not a Bible scholar, not by a long shot, but I don't think either Mitt Romney or Rick Santorum, appear by name in that book.
And I don't remember the part where God says she'll fix the US economy if we vote for "mature" Christians.
I do, however, believe there is a hidden, Eleventh Commandment, Thou Shall Not Be A Delusional Asshat Using The Name Of God To Promote Your Idiocy, and I believe Steven Andrew has broken that one.

Walter Mondale, former U.S. Vice President, on Minnesota's proposed Constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage:
"Our constitution is a hard-earned gift from those who preceded us, and an enduring promise to those who will follow us. It should be used to protect individual liberty, not to take it away."

You cannot call all men equal and then deny them rights.
Doesn't work that way, even in Minnesota.

Mitch McConnell, Republican Senator from Kentucky, says he's filibustering 17 judicial nominees because Harry Reid is making Republicans look bad:
"This is just a very transparent attempt to try to slam dunk the minority and make them look like they are obstructing things they aren’t obstructing. We object to that. We don’t think that meets the standard of civility that should be expected in the Senate. And, so, any effort to make the minority look bad or attempt to slam dunk them that is sort of manufactured as this is is gonna, of course, be greeted with resistance."

Hey Mitch?
Put on your big boy pants and do the job for which you were elected: represent the people of this country.
Failing that, unzip, whip it out, measure it, and declare a winner, because this is all just typical GOPIsm, posturing and posing and accomplishing nothing.

Bishop Thomas Tobin, on same-sex marriage:
"God created two different genders for a reason--so that males and females could come together, complement one another, procreate, and continue the species. And be very clear about this--same-sex marriage isn’t about procuring civil rights for beleaguered homosexual persons. The recently adopted civil-unions legislation, as ill-advised as it was, it provided the legal protections activists have been lobbying for, but the opportunity has been widely ignored. Same-sex marriage legislation is about distorting a venerable institution – not about civil rights. Please be assured, dear readers, that if the debate over same-sex marriage finds its way to the State House once again, the Diocese of Providence, joined by its allies in our community, will be fully engaged in the battle. We will work hard and pray hard for the defeat of this immoral, misguided proposal that erodes the foundation of our society and offends the moral values we cherish."

Playing the ruination of civilization will come because Adam and Steve can get married card?
Not gonna fly, "Bishop". It's hate, it's bigotry, it's intolerance, it's Catholic.
It's wrong.

Bill Keller, "evangelist", on who's really responsible for Tyler Clementi's death:
"Anderson Cooper, Rachel Maddow, Ellen DeGeneres, the media, and gutless pastors are guilty for the death of Rutgers student Tyler Clementi, not Dharun Ravi! It is those in the media who glamorize and promote this choice as normal and acceptable, along with gutless pastors too afraid to speak out against this sin, and faux churches that glorify this deviant, unnatural, and unhealthy choice of sexual activity, who are the real guilty parties in Clementi's death. While those in the media want to blame people like myself who take a Biblical stand on this issue, the fact is, they are the ones most responsible!"

Hmmm, I didn't see Elene videotaping a private encounter between two consenting adults and then sharing it with the world.
Didn't see Anderson or Rachel do it either.
Sounds to me like Bill Keller wishes he'd gotten his hands on that video so he could watch it over and over again in the privacy of his in-home confessional, with a box of tissues and some hand cream.

Tammy Baldwin, on her Wisconsin Senate run and whether her sexuality might be a factor:
"This November, people in Wisconsin will be so focused on getting by. They’ve made serious adjustments to deal with this economy — whether it’s the recession or the decline of the middle class before then. I feel so strongly that that’s what’s going to be on people’s minds."

Smart people don't really care if someone is gay or not, especially when it comes to running for office.
They want someone who will work for them, to, oh I dunno, lower taxes, fix the economy, make life easier.
Or maybe that's just me.

Jimmy Carter, in his new book, about homosexuality, the Bible, and marriage equality:
"Homosexuality was well known in the ancient world, well before Christ was born and Jesus never said a word about homosexuality. In all of his teachings about multiple things -– he never said that gay people should be condemned. I personally think it is very fine for gay people to be married in civil ceremonies. I draw the line, maybe arbitrarily, in requiring by law that churches must marry people. I’m a Baptist, and I believe that each congregation is autonomous and can govern its own affairs. So if a local Baptist church wants to accept gay members on an equal basis, which my church does by the way, then that is fine. If a church decides not to, then government laws shouldn’t require them to."

Amen, Jimmy, Amen.

Rick Santorum, on what he'd say to Dan Savage if they ever met:
"I would tell him that I'm praying for him. He obviously has some serious issues. You look at someone like that who can say and do the things that he's doing and you just pray for him and hopefully he can find peace."

Oh, he's found peace, Frothy.
He's simply trying to save it from people like you who would seek to shove him back in a closet somewhere.

Dan Savage, on Santorum's plan to pray for him:
"Rick Santorum thinks that women who have been raped should be compelled—by force of law—to carry the babies of their rapists to term, he thinks birth control should be illegal, he wants to prosecute pornographers, etc., etc., basically the guy wants to be president so that he can micromanage the sex lives of all Americans...and I'm the one with issues? Because I made a dirty joke at his expense eight or nine years ago and it stuck? I'm the one with issues? Okaaaaaaaaaaaaaay. Rick can pray for me. I'll gay for him. And we can call it even."

Rick doesn't have "issues" he has whole "subscriptions."
But, let's all Gay For Santorum.
I think he could use it.

Howard Schultz, Starbucks CEO, responding to NOM's complaint about his company's support for marriage equality:
"Any decision of this type or magnitude has be made with great thoughtfulness and I would assure you that a senior team at Starbucks discussed this. To be very candid with you, this was not something that was a difficult decision for us and we did share this with the board as well. [snip] We made that decision, in our view, through the lens of humanity and being the kind of company that embraces diversity."

Smack.Down.
Now, go to Starbucks and order one of those crazy sounding drinks with the weird sizes.

Tammy Baldwin, again, on Obama's "evolution" on marriage equality:
"Look, he is moving in the right direction on this issue. He’s been crucial in equality efforts like the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell and signing the Matthew Shepard hate crimes prevention act. I have no idea what goes on in another person’s mind. As a legislator, I need to be good at persuading people, counting votes and getting to 50 percent plus one. I don’t go back and say, 'Why did this person get to the right position?' It’s only 'Are you yes or are you no?'"

The more this woman speaks the more I feel we need to get her elected.
Common sense makes a comeback!

The Weekly Asshat...And It's A Tie!

"Let me explain the “champagne principle.” Not every wine is champagne. Champagne has certain very specific, universally recognized characteristics. If someone were to take a bottle of Chianti, label and sell it as champagne, they’d be arrested for fraud. In the same way, those who seek to redefine marriage – with its specific characteristics – and to usurp the title “marriage” for their morally bankrupt relationships, are committing an act of fraud. It’s insulting to those who have entered the authentic, sacred and time-honored institution of marriage over the years. [snip]"Proponents of gay marriage say that the Church won’t be forced to witness such marriages. Don’t believe it. And other related problems will inevitably arise. Will the Church be required to admit gay couples as sponsors for baptisms; to rent its facilities for gay wedding receptions; to hire employees despite their immoral gay lifestyles; to grant family benefits to gay couples? For simply maintaining its teachings in these and many other possible scenarios, the Church will be accused of bigotry and unlawful discrimination. The threat to our religious freedom is real, and imminent."
--Rhode Island Bishop Thomas Tobin

Truly repugnant North Carolina Representative Virginia Foxx dishonored the memory of Matthew Shepard during the Hate crimes Legislation debate this week. She spoke nothing but outright lies, and she spoke them with matthew's mother, Judy, sitting in the chambers.

If you live in North Carolina and you voted this dumb-fuck into office, shame on you.

If you live in North Carolina and are just as disgusted by her hatred and intolerance and stupidity, Vote.Her.Ass.Out.
