New Jersey Tries For Equality Again

As of yesterday, New Jersey Democrats have reintroduced a marriage equality, making same-sex unions a top priority in the state.
Four people--who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the bill is still being drafted--say the Democrats' priority for the new legislative session is to move the bill quickly through both houses of the Legislature and forward it to the governor, perhaps as early as next month.
Governor Chris Christie has said previously that he doesn't support gay marriage--though he very clearly supports Krispy Kreme.
Just sayin'.
The man is fat.
Just sayin'.
Democrats understand that denying gay couples the ability to marry violates their civil rights, and hope Governor Kristie-Kreme might see it their way. They tried, but failed, to pass marriage equality legislation when Jon Corzine was governor. Corzine would have signed the bill, but just 14 senators voted for it and it needed 21 votes to pass.
Senate President Steve Sweeney, a Democrat, was one of those who abstained from the vote, and says he has regretted it ever since. His inaction, he admits, was  "the biggest mistake" of his legislative career, and now, Steve Sweeney will be among its prime sponsors in the Senate.
Democrats are confident they have enough votes to advance the bill, but realize it cannot be done with a veto-proof majority without GOP assistance. Plus, they acknowledge that the bill will likely die if it reaches the desk of asshat Christie.
Maybe if they sent it with a box of donuts?
Just sayin'.
