Mitch's comment above reminds me of the time when I got a hovercraft across the English Channel and, as it approached the berth, a female member of staff FACING the passengers, announced "Please let those on the left disembark first." - and then she disappeared. The ensuing chaos, arguments and bad tempers were predictable.
