Rudy and The Repugs: Stupid Is As Stupid Does

There are rumors floating around out there that the GOP is rethinking it's stance on gay marriage.

Interesting.

Remember back, when W was running the second time, and the Repugs used gay marriage as the cornerstone of their bid to hold the White House; remember when the notion of marriage equality was used to galvanize the conservative base?

Now, the Repugs are rethinking. Is it because they see marriage equality as the right thing, the just thing, the fair thing? Or, and this may sound crazy, is it because they are watching their party crumble so quickly that they will do and say anything to attract more voters?

I'll take Tricks By The Repugs for $400 please, Alex.

See. marriage equality is on the run here, folks, and the Repugs are looking to cash in on that momentum. Poll numbers now show more people want marriage equality than ever before; poll numbers also show evidence of a widening divide on the issue by age, suggesting to many Repugs that the fear of marriage equality is on the decline. It simply does not appear to have the resonance with younger voters that it does with older ones.

So, what's a Repug to do?
Change your mind.

Steve Schmidt, senior strategist to John McCain during his presidential bid, believes that the Repugs are in danger of losing the younger votes unless they rethink their former strategy of fear. “Republicans should re-examine the extent to which we are being defined by positions on issues that I don’t believe are among our core values, and that put us at odds with what I expect will become, over time, if not a consensus view, then the view of a substantial majority of voters,” he said in a speech.

Of course, some in the GOP feel that the issue isn't that many Americans have changed their minds about marriage equality, they just have better things to do. They no longer worry about it, or even think about it.

Even that anti-equality asshat Rudy Giuliani, that Say-Anything-To-Get-My-Name-Out-There moron, says , "Right now, people are not concerned about issues like gay marriage because they are concerned about the economy.”

And yet it was only a few days ago that Rudy stepped in front of a microphone and declared his opposition to gay marriage. And now he doesn't care? He sin't concerned? Oh Rudy, your days in office ended years ago. Go slip into a cocktail gown and spend your days lunching with the girls.

Giuliani explained that he is against marriage equality--though he supports civil 'less than' unions--but all of the sudden he feels that it makes no sense for the Repugs to harp on the issue.

Again, Rudy, you were harping on the issue about five minutes ago.

Never one to shy away from making a complete fool of himself, Rudy then said, "The Republican party does best organizing itself around economic issues and issues of national security.”

Once again. Five minutes ago? You? No gay marriage? Five years ago? The Repugs? No gay marriage? i didn't hear any of you talking about the economy.

You can't change the facts to suit your current mood, Rudy.

Politicians all seem to have their own agenda separate from the issues of the general population but while campaigning try to figure out the crumbs they are going to throw the people who elect them.

  3. Maybe its not just a pipe dream to think that as more and more states make the individual decision for marriage equality, our president will see that the topic has broad support, and that although he said in the past he was for civil unions (not gay marriage), he will decide that "the time is here; the time is right" to give all Americans equal rights under the law and sign Federal legislation to secure that.

    Wow, what a run-on sentence!
