I haven't written too much about the National Organization fro Marriage, or NOM, because, to me, they are nothing more than a joke. Their lame "Gathering Storm" commercials always make me think of the Weather Girls, "It's Raining Men" and I think, Is that so wrong?
They tried to create a website called 2M4M, 2 Million for Marriage, only anyone with a third grade education knows that M4M is internet lingo for Men for Men.....so was NOM looking for Two Men for Men?
Then they hired future pie-in-the-face-has-been-beauty-queen Carrie Prejean to be their spokesfool, and even that turned out so disastrously that they are no longer using her, or her fake boobies.
This, however, is far moire sinister, and needs to be brought to light.
The group Californians Against Hate had representatives visit the NOM offices in Princeton, New Jersey to get copies of their IRS 990 reports, to no avail. NOM is required by federal law to have these available for public view, but they don't.
Californians Against Hate sent two certified letters to the NOM offices on March 18, 2009 again requesting the 990 forms. Federal law requires NOM to furnish copies of these IRS filings within 30 days after the requested has been received, but now, over forty days later, NOM will not release the information.
Six weeks ago Californians Against Hate filed a formal complaint with the California Fair Political Practices Commission charging that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Mormon Church, established NOM as a front group to qualify California ’s Prop 8 for the ballot, and to fight marriage equality around the country.
The FPPC has an ongoing investigation against the Mormon Church, and are looking into this charge, and into the Mormon Church’s lack of reporting its massive non-monetary contributions on behalf of Yes on Prop 8.
The Mormon Church has a long history of using front groups to carry on its fights opposing same-sex marriage beginning in Hawaii in 1998. The Mormon Church established “ Hawaii ’s Future Today” to support that state’s constitutional amendment opposing same-sex marriage.
NOM is a sham and a scam, set-up by the Mormon Church to fight marriage equality. Now, as I've said a million times, and I will keep saying it, if your religious views are such that you cannot, do not, and will not, support marriage equality and equal rights for all Americans, so be it. But you cannot use your religious views to craft laws or enforce legislation.
You can't.

I went online and looked at Form 990. I think I know why NOM doesn't want to produce theirs.
ReplyDeleteThe form shows things like directors and key employees for example. It also shows breakdowns of the biggest programs, etc.
NOM is seriously trying to hide information.
The Mormons are evil
ReplyDeleteWow, I had no idea the Mormons were behind NOM. So scary.
