YouTube Court

There was some hope that the Prop H8 trial in California would be televised, but a judge has decided it will be YouTube'd instead.

Defenders of Proposition 8, which restricts marriage to a man and a woman, had claimed that broadcasting proceedings could lead to intimidation of witnesses. Yes, because those folks who like to discriminate like to do so behind closed doors, behind their Bibles, behind their white hoods.

But Judge Vaughn Walker dismissed that claim, stating, rightly so, that the case was important enough that people should be able to watch it. Though it might be on a one day delay before it goes up on YouTube.

Judge Walker: "This is a case which merits a very serious consideration for widespread distribution." And, while he added that opponents of marriage equality had conducted a very public campaign to win the ban, he will allow witnesses who do not want to b shown can have their faces blacked out.

That last part frustrates me. if you want to campaign against gay marriage, if you want to fund hate, then have the balls to stand up and show your face and let people know who you are. Why hide.

The LGBT community, and it's supporters, aren't doing that.

  1. I'm disappointed with that part too. It would be very telling, if everyone of the Prop8 supporters had their faces hidden while the others where visible. It may work to our advantage in the long run.

  2. Interesting image you posted here, just yesterday, I was thinking exactly that while reading some asshat summaries in the blogosphere. I was thinking to myself, this is about human beings, not things. Marriage is a human right, nothing less.

  3. Bob, I love the photo. I think that will end up at my place on the side bar.

It is funny that the conservative rats will be able to hide their faces. Rats always scurry away from the light.
