Today's The Day

As of today, Vermont's gay marriage law is set to go into effect and supporters of marriage equality are gearing up for what promises to be an emotional week. But they aren't expecting a bunch of homo "I do's" today; it's midweek, baby, and no self-respecting gay man or woman would get married on a Tuesday. They wait until the weekend when the Cosmos can flow more freely.

Yeah, this weekend I think we'll see some nuptials.

Still, since there is no rush to get married, many are wondering what happened. When civil unions became legal in 2000, there was a stampede of sorts, but with marriage the pace is more of a simple trot.

The reason for that is simple. The Vermonters who took part in the civil unioning of their partnership are waiting until the anniversary of that ceremony to get married so the anniversaries are the same.

The gays are nothing if not logical!

But it makes no difference.

Vermont is home to equality, and that's all that really matters.

  1. Makes sense to me. Hard to remember one anniversary much less two!

  2. Vermont seems like a really cool state and not just in the winter.
