ISBL Asshat of the Week: JoAnn Windholz Blames Planned Parenthood For The Attack There

What is it with Republicans blaming the victims of mass shootings for being the victims of mass shootings? I mean, after that lunatic shot a bunch of people in a Charleston church, a lot of GOP goosesteppers said the victims would have been saved if they’d been armed; and Ben Carson, future failed presidential candidate, also said the same thing about that shooting at that community college in Oregon.

And now, Colorado Republican state Representative, JoAnn Windholz, has said the same thing about Robert Lewis Dear’s terrorist attack at the Planned Parenthood in her state:
“When a violent act happens at a Planned Parenthood (pph) facility (most recent in Colorado Springs) the left goes on “auto-pilot” blaming everyone insight when they should be looking in a mirror,” she wrote. “Free Speech has brought to light the insidious selling of baby body parts (pph has no shame). These facts and overall mission of the abortion industry would easily send anyone over the hill who wasn’t rational. Violence is never the answer but we must start pointing out who is the real culprit. The true instigator of this violence and all violence at any pph facility, is pph themselves. Violence begets violence. So pph, YOU STOP THE VIOLENCE INSIDE YOUR WALLS.”
Oh yes, Planned Parenthood deserved to be the sight of a homegrown terrorist attack because Planned Parenthood helps women get the treatment they want, and that is not just abortions, but health care and all sorts of other services.

But now, this one Republican may have to face a recall election for her incendiary words, if voters like Steven Cohn and Naomi Hatfield Bigwood have their way. See, they hope to spur a recall election to have Windholz removed from office, and that could very easily happen if Cohn and Hatfield Bigwood get the 5,000 signatures needed.

Back in 2014, JoAnn Windholz barely defeated Democratic Representative Jenise May; she won by just 106 votes out of the 18,858 cast. It's a slim enough margin to suggest that if even just a few of her supporters find her remarks reprehensible — and they should — there would be enough votes against her in a  recall election, and she’ll be fired from her job.

Already the Aurora Sentinel — and Aurora was the site of another terrorist shooting at a movie theater in recent years — is calling for Windholz to step down:
“Windholz … set fire to her own nascent political career this week when she posted on social media a rant blaming Planned Parenthood for the heinous murders and injuries last week at their Colorado Springs clinic, an attack carried out by an unhinged, well-armed extremist. … To say that a respected healthcare provider like Planned Parenthood, or any healthcare provider, is responsible for inciting someone to go on a murderous rampage, or that patients and staff associated with Planned Parenthood are somehow deserving of being stalked and murdered, is beyond the pale. … That Windholz would use such repulsive and sophomoric argument in a community like Aurora — where another madman slaughtered innocent people going about their daily lives, and who were in no way “culprits” in the crime — makes Windholz’ blunder all the more painful. ... Windholz should immediately resign.”
But first, make her stand before the families of the victims of Dear’s rampage and apologize to them for what she said, though I doubt that would ever happen since she’s a Republican and they thrive on fear, and use it in their election campaigns.

So she’ll probably just slither back under the rock from whence she came. And that’s good enough, too.

  1. I like the idea of first making her stand before the families. Whether she apologizes of not, just make her stand and look into the eyes of each one who lost a parent, a spouse, a child, a sibling.

    Asshat, indeed!

  3. Funnily enough, most (if not all) of our maternity hospitals offer abortion as a standard option for pregnant women. How many attacks have there been by mentally ill people? NONE! Perhaps that should tell the Republicans something, but then our politicians don't encourage us to kill people for our religious beliefs.

  4. It's just so infuriating that, in addition to being such complete and utter asshats, these politicians continue to lie about the body parts and don't care at all that the entire story was a fabrication.
