By All Means, Let Us Pray To End This Cycle Of Murder In This Country ...

Another day, another shooting.

Seriously. Yesterday, the country saw its 355th mass shooting — defined as more than four people murdered; that’s more shootings that days!

Yay! We’re Number One! We’re Number One! Land of the Free, Home of the Take Cover!!!

The shooting in San Bernardino left 14 dead and 17 others wounded and is now the deadliest mass shooting in the country since Adam Lanza murdered 26 children and adults at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut, on December 15, 2012.

You remember that day? The day we all shuddered and said, collectively, “This must stop.” And then we went on about our business because, you know, there was something else to think about until another lunatic opened fire in a theater or a classroom or a business or a school and we could collectively shudder again and do nothing.

Oh, except pray, and race to Twitter to hashtag everything #StandWithSanBernardino which replaced #StandWithPlannedParenthood.

And in case you missed it, the same day of the San Bernardino mass murder was the same day there was another shooting in Savannah, Georgia where one person died and three others were injured.

But, hey, let’s all pray … for what? If you believe in God, He didn’t create this mess; this isn’t, as Marco Rubio likes to say, part of God’s plan. This is a man-made problem with a man-made solution: comprehensive gun control and legislation.

That’s the only way. Background checks. Control. Legislation. Registration.

Or else we’ll just keep praying and hashtagging and doing nothing until that map up there turns completely red. And then we can color in every single day of that calendar down there ... which is already out-dated ....

We’re Number One!

  1. Many commentators referenced Columbine.
Our part of WA (E) predated that.
"The Frontier Middle School shooting was a school shooting that occurred on February 2, 1996 at Frontier Middle School in Moses Lake, Washington, United States. The gunman, 14-year-old Barry Dale Loukaitis (born February 26, 1981), killed his algebra teacher and two students, and held his classmates hostage for ten minutes before a gym coach subdued Loukaitis."
Not a distinction that the town enjoys.

  3. Presumably this is all part of God's plan? It was the never ending deaths around the world that made me become an atheist; how could a God who claimed to love us allow all these atrocities?
