Minute Rant: Courtney Hoffman

Courtney Hoffman is a lesbian who lives in Southern California; that’s not so newsworthy. But it’s something she did, something I find kind of disgusting, that makes her newsworthy.

She donated money to the GoFundMe campaign created to support Memories Pizzeria, that Indiana pizzeria whose family of owners proudly stood up to say that they wouldn’t cater same-sex weddings … like any self-respecting gay would have a pizza dinner at their wedding … but I digress.

Hoffman, who is a business owner herself, wrote the following for the GoFundMe campaign:
“As a member of the gay community, I would like to apologize for the mean spirited attacks on you and your business. I know many gay individuals who fully support your right to stand up for your beliefs and run your business according to those beliefs. We are outraged at the level of hate and intolerance that has been directed at you and I sincerely hope that you are able to rebuild.”
Rebuild? Rebuild what, Courtney? Their business was doing fine so what did they need to rebuild? Their reputation, once it was revealed that they believe discrimination is just fine and dandy as long as you use God as your justification because if God taught those religious folks anything, She taught them to hate and discriminate.

You, Courtney Hoffman, in my mind, my opinion, my thought, are a self-loathing lesbian if you think it’s okay to discriminate against anyone based on their sexual orientation. I mean, if you walked into a business and asked for a service and something about your request seemed ‘gay,’ you would be fine with the owner saying, ‘We don’t serve gays’? That’s the kind of America you want to live in?

Now I know next to nothing about Ms. Hoffman; I don’t know if she’s married, or partnered, or, gasp, living in sin, or if she has any children, but I cannot help but wonder what she night do if a business owner refused to serve her because she has a child and she’s not married … even if she is legally same-sex married … since most of these bigots hide behind the Bible don’t believe in same-0sex marriage.

Courtney, honey, discrimination is wrong, and when you legally allow people an excuse to do so, you are opening the door to every kind of discrimination out there. Nice going.

I hope that, as a business owner, you’ll put a sign in your window saying you support the right to refuse service based on sexual orientation because “the Baby Jeebus,’ and I hope that causes people to find somewhere else to spend their money; somewhere that doesn’t believe in treating people as less than or different because of who they are.

Now sit down.

  1. I have not given an Arlene's update lately - $167,393. So far no news on what is going to happen since she is standing on refusing service and not paying the fine.

  2. I don't approve of or condone the threats of violence that were hurled at those stupid pizza place owners. But they certainly don't deserve an apology from anyone else... nor do they deserve to rebuild anything.

I wonder how many "many gay individuals" Courtney really knows who fully support the pizzeria owners' right to discriminate and encourage hate and intolerance. Courtney is not a member of any "community" I'm a part of. Whatever business Courtney Hoffman owns, I most certainly would not have anything to do with it. Rebuild THAT, Courtney!

  3. Are we sure Courtney Hoffman is a real person, or rather not a right wing troll? It just does not make sense that she would support a despicable idea that goes against her own interest.

  4. It's 'reassuring' to find someone who's so 'fair-minded' that she'll even donate money to her own oppressors.
    KKK next?
