Architecture Wednesday: The Reed Residence

I guess if you're gonna live in the middle of Mother Freakin' Nature, you oughta treat her with a little respect, eh? Which is what this home does.
The Reed Residence is located in a beautiful valley near Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and the house is all about the environment and reclaiming materials and, well, being just plain gorgeous.
The home was designed by Robert Hawkins Architects and displays an original sense of architecture, with a focus on sustainability. It is an Energy Star Qualified Home crafted of reclaimed wood for the timber frame, the interior paneling, and the exterior siding, with roughly half the roof area turned into a 'living roof' and planted with a “SemperGreen” sedum mat. It's like a prairie, right outside the window.
And the remaining metal gable roofs are used to provide the best spot, the perfect orientation, and just the right pitch for solar panels. It's green, baby.
But not boring. The interiors are beautiful, warm and inviting, and extra large windows open up the home towards the amazing landscape and allow natural light inside. It's traditional and rustic and yet contemporary. Like me, kinda.
