Minute Rant: Queen Latifah

Queen Latifah on her lesbian sex scenes in the HBO film, Bessie, about legendary blues singer, and ALLEGED lesbian, Bessie Smith:
“People feel a type of way when they see any sexuality on-screen. I think it's almost human nature. People are so fascinated by it. It shouldn’t even be a discussion. But it is, because people are still curious, and people still wonder how they feel about things. At the end of the day I don’t really care if someone feels uncomfortable about it. It is what it is, and it’s life. So you either deal with it or not. It’s just part of who she is, and I had to tell the story honestly.”
It’s funny to me, and ironic and annoying, that Latifah, feels a sense of duty to honestly tell Bessie’s story, including the many supposed relationships she had with women, while Latifah is a closeted lesbian herself and says that her sexual orientation, or personal life is no one’s business.

But, I guess if someone’s giving you a paycheck, you’ll tell their “story.”

Too bad there were no pictures of Bessie making out with her girlfriend on a yacht like the ones that surfaced a couple of years ago with Latifah kissing ion her girlfriend.

Dana Dana Dana; you are a hypocrite.

  1. I can't help it either, I really do adore her, and love her voice. And I'm guessing you had a fit in her quote where she said "it is what it is!!!!!!!"

  2. I'm just annoyed that she says sexual orientation [especially hers] is no one]s business, and then does a role where the lead character, a real person, is played as a lesbian.
Bessie Smith never uttered the words, 'I'm gay.' so Latifah should'a treated her like she wants to be treated.
But :::gulp::: it is what it is.

  3. I'm one of those people who is uncomfortable with anyone's sex scenes. Even the little bit they let you see on movie ads (ak! 50 shades is being advertised now).

  4. I'm with Dog's Mother. ANY sex scene on film, or even in a book, makes me feel uncomfortable. Sometimes it has nothing at all to do with the story, though if it is relevant it needs only a suggestion to tell us that a couple have had it off together. We just don't NEED for the act to be shown or described in graphic detail. If I want to see raw sex, which I occasionally do, I know where to look for it, otherwise it's a needless diversion.

Oh dear, don't I just sound like the old fogey that I am? Maybe it's a generation thing.

  5. No, I know what your saying though Bob. If a star is so far in the closet, and never even been eluded to as gay, that's different. But if it is already out there, with proof and pictures, and eveybodies like yeah, we knew already , then why not come out. It does send the wrong message.
