Scary New GOP Poll

It makes you wonder if they're all drinking the Kool-Aid, or if this is some sort of mass stupidity, but a new Harris poll reveals exactly what the Republicans think of Barack Obama:

  • 67% of Republicans [and 40% of Americans overall] believe Obama is a socialist.
  • 57% of Republicans [32% overall} believe Obama is a Muslim.
  • 45% of Republicans [25% overall] believe Obama was not born in the United States.
  • 38% of Republicans [20% overall] say that Obama is "doing many of the things that Hitler did"
  • 24% of Republicans [14 percent overall] say Obama "may be the Antichrist."
The.Antichrist.

I mean, I get socialist; that's an easy one to toss around. As is Marxist, Communist, any of the -ists. You know, podiatrist, psychiatrist, barrista. Oh god, what if Obama is an espresso brewing foot doctor? We're doomed!

And I get Muslim, too. I mean, c'mon, he doesn't have an American sounding name, like Smith or Jones. Or Goldberg. Or Rodriguez.

And because of that whole name thing, I can see why people might say he wasn't born here.

But Hitler? really? And the Antichrist?

That's just plain stupid. And I felt sorta bad for saying it's stupid until I read that those polled, some 2,230, are not the sharpest tools in America's shed. It seems that those who do not have a college education are more likely to believe the socialist-Communist-Birther-Muslim-Hitler-Antichrist bulls**t than people who went to college.

But it goes further. More poll results show that high percentages of Republicans--and Americans overall--believe Obama is "racist," "anti-American" "wants the terrorists to win" and "wants to turn over the sovereignty of the United States to a one-world government."

Now, do they have proof? I mean any other proof besides the rantings of former coke-head Glenn Beck or the ragings of prescription drug abuser Limbaugh? I think not. These people who believe this nonsense are the ones who didn't go to college and get their news from two former addicts. I think we need to stop shaking our collective heads in disbelief at these wingnuts and teabaggers, and do something. Speak up. When the asshats start yelling and rational minds say nothing, it looks like the asshats may be right.

And they aren't.

  1. 14% of our citizens believe that Obama is the Anti-Christ... I think there are a few more qualifiers here - like living in a cave and a lack of good dental hygiene.

  2. The Anti-christ? These repubs need to get the F outta here!

I believe that the teachings of the Anti-christ say that he will be loved and respected all over the world, even by those who normally would oppose him. This disqualifies him already.

  3. I'll have to beat Stan to this one, because I know he would say it Bob.

Proof of how our continued failure to place education as a cornerstone of our republic has done to us. We have built a nation of fearful, xenophobic, consumerist, hateful, village idiots. We've been here before, we've done this before. If we don't learn from history, we will repeat it. It appears, from this poll, we are well on our way to beating previous records.

  4. I don't believe any of those things about Obama, however I'm not such a fan of his. Why? He keeps putting all the promises he made to the LGBT community on the back burner. So, what will be his new excuse now that health care has passed? He promised he would get rid of DADT, and now seems unwilling to move on it. When you are trying to get elected don't make promises you don't intend to follow up on......
