Sean William Kennedy was murdered outside a Greenville, SC bar in 2007. He was beaten to death by Andrew Moller, who, while punching Kennedy to the ground, used anti-gay slurs against the eighteen-year-old.
Moller was charged with murder, but the Grand Jury handed down an indictment of manslaughter in November 2007.
Man.
Slaughter.
Sounds like murder to me.
Just last week Moller appeared in court and pleaded guilty to the charge of manslaughter; the judge sentenced him to five years in prison.
Five years for taking another man's life with your bare hands. This was no accident; no brakes failed on a car; no one accidentally shoved Kennedy to the ground.
The boy was beaten to death.
Five years; that is until Judge Ned Miller suspended Moller's sentence to three years, with credit for the seven months already served. He also said that Moller must serve at least 85 percent of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
But now, according to Sean's mother Elke Kennedy, Moller is being considered for a parole hearing and could be eligible for parole next month.
So, it's less than a year he's served for killing someone.
Sean William Kennedy didn't get another year.
Elke Kennedy started a website, Seans Last Wish, and you can check out what she's done fro Sean, and continues to do for Sean, as well as the rest of the gay community.
Elke Kennedy would like you to write a letter to the parole board, asking them not to parole this admitted murderer. Make him serve his time; what little time he was given, considering the time he took away from Sean Kennedy.
Send your letters to:

Be sure to include Moller’s full name and ID number:Stephen Andrew Moller - SCDC ID # 00328891.

I think taking the life of another human being is worth more than five years.
And it's definitely worth more than a few months.
Good post and at least a letter is worth our time.Never know when it could be one of us. Even when the victim isn't gay, it's interesting that the cursing that goes along with the violence is anti gay.
ReplyDeleteSuch a shame. I'm quite sure that even judges aren't immune to the 'popular thinking' that crimes committed against gay (since they're asking for it) aren't as bad a crimes committed against 'regular' people.
ReplyDeleteThis is an outrage!
ReplyDeleteDamn, I can't believe I got so behind reading your blog the last few days! I've been out and about and got caught up this evening.
I think it's an outrage also. I wrote a letter to the parole boiard and sent a copy to Sean's mother as well.
ReplyDeleteI hope it helps.
