GLAAD ain't happy with Barbara Walters and The View.
Well, not so much Walters, since she was off that day, but with dimbulb Sherri "I believe the world is flat" Shepherd and guest host D.L. Hughley. In fact, GLAAD has taken out this full page ad in Hollywood trade magazine Variety blasting The View.
It seems that during the June 22 episode of the show, cohost Sherri Shepherd and guest host, comedian D.L. Hughley, blamed increased HIV rates among straight African American women on black men who are secretly gay, AKA "on the down low."
Sherri Shepherd: "It's so big in the black community with women because they're having sex with men who have been having sex with men."
Well, guess what D.L. and Sherri? You're wrong. The Variety ad, cosigned by the Black AIDS Institute and the National Black Justice Coalition, reads in part: "The Centers for Disease Control has publicly disproven this myth. And since June 22, thousands of people have written to ABC, asking that The View provide correct information to viewers. Unfortunately, those requests have been greeted with silence from both ABC and The View."
Shame on you.
It's okay to have a View, but at least get the facts straight.
If the view had to issue corrections to all their misinformation, they wouldn't have time for much else. Maybe they could do their discussion during the first half of the show and the actual facts during the second half.
ReplyDeleteMaybe its time that this travesty of a "news" show just be put to death. This show is completely irrelevant and I'm quite surprised anyone is let who is watching it.
ReplyDeleteI avoid watching the view. It hasn't been the same since Meredith Vieira left.
ReplyDeleteIn all the articles I've read on this and in GLAAD's "letter," I have yet to read what the correct theory is as to why african american woman have such a high infection rate.
