If You Think Voting Doesn't Matter Think Again

I get tired of people who saying voting doesn’t matter … and then bitch about politicians and politics. I have a rather simple philosophy:
Vote… or shut the f**k up.
And I am annoyed by folks who are Bernie supporters who say they won’t vote Hillary in November because they want Bernie or no one because, if you follow that logic and you don’t vote, prepare yourself for a President [t]Rump or a President Cruz next year. And then shut the f**k up about that, too.

Now, before any Bernie fans get twisted, I say the same to Hillary voters who say they won’t vote Bernie if he gets the nod. It plays out like this: the GOP wins when Democrats stay home, and we cannot afford a Republican in office, so you need to vote Blue.

Oh, you need some proof of that? Here goes:

Yesterday — on the heels of GOP Georgia Governor Nathan Deal’s veto of that so-called “religious freedom” bill — the Democratic Governor of Louisiana, John Bel Edwards, announced that he will rescind the sweeping anti-LGBT executive order his predecessor, Republican Bobby Jindal, signed into law last May that allowed businesses and state agencies to turn away LGBT people based on their “sincerely held religious beliefs.”

Yup, because people in Louisiana went out and voted Blue in their last election, the state’s Hate Law is done. Voting matters; voting Blue matters. And if you don’t, well then, shut the f**k up when things turn ugly.

PS Governor Edwards also plans to sign an executive order extending nondiscrimination protections to LGBT government employees and contractors.

  1. Vote "straight" Democratic - from President on down to your local town assembly person - we need to de-republicanize the Congress and vote out anyone who has the poor judgement to identify themselves with this current, backward thinking, anti-LGBT GOP which I think stands for "Gawd Awful Party".

  4. I have a few friends who say exactly what you speak of. They don't like anyone on their side of the aisle. I always say, at least vote, even if it means voting for a lesser of two evils. Otherwise like you said Bob, here comes Rump.

  5. We had a school board race that tied at 4,900-ish votes. They had to toss a coin.
Same in a town east of us.

  6. My dad always told me I couldn't bitch if I didn't vote. I took that to heart. I get so disgusted with people who say they're all alike and it doesn't matter. IT MATTERS!

  8. Agreed...

I did have to laugh at that Louisiana reversal since it makes Jindal an even bigger loser.

  10. We've got the 'does he? doesn't he?' abortion issue being TRUMPeted all over our news this morning. They've always said that whenever he makes a controversial statement he, against all the odds, increases his support. I wonder if his Teflon protective coat will take a rip time. (Probably not).

  11. When people tell me they can't be bothered to vote I always remind them that people died to get the right to vote for ordinary people. Originally the vote was only for male landowners and here in the UK the Levellers fought for the common man to have the right to vote, which came in a limited form in the 1832 Reform Act. Before that an MP could be sent to Parliament on the votes of just 12 voters....all property owning males of course. Women first gained the right to vote in 1915, that is if you were over 30 and if they complied with the property qualification. Not until 1928 was suffrage given to all voters over 21. Throughout the 600+ year process many, many people died for an ideal. If you don't vote you betray their sacrifice.
