The Bishop Says He Didn't Mean it When He Said Put The Gays To Death

If God is love, well then surely God is not Catholic.

At least not the kind of Catholic we find in Vitus Huonder, a Catholic bishop in Switzerland, who recently gave an anti-gay sermon on the evils of The Gays. He cited one of that old Biblcial standby of hate, Leviticus, and said:
“If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.”
And then he added, quite clearly, that the passage should “suffice to clarify unambiguously the church’s position on homosexuality.”

So, the church’s position on The Gays is that they should “surely be put to death.” Not ambiguous at all, right?

But here's where it gets real; the Not-So-Good Bishop happened to say these things in Switzerland, a country that does not care for Hate  Speech — which, let’s be queer, saying gays should be put to death qualified — and now the Pink Cross, a Swiss gay advocacy group, has now filed a criminal complaint against Huonder, claiming his speech could be interpreted to suggest Catholics should actively harm homosexuals.

If convicted, Bishop Huonder could face three years in prison, so now he’s trying to walk back his speech and is claiming that he’s been “misunderstood” and that he never wanted to sound “contemptuous” towards gay people.
“They shall surely be put to death.”

Nope, I’m fairly intelligent and I understood that completely.

  1. In any case, Bob, whatever he said AFTER the criminal complaint is meaningless. Gah!

I know, but I always love how these kinds of people say these things and then, when busted, try to walk it back.
    Like anyone would simply forget?

  4. I am hardly surprised. I have heard many bishops and clergy speak of charity and justice, and as far as I can tell, none of them meant what they said then either.

  6. The passage on homosexuality comes from the Old Testament written by a crowd of ignorant peasants. It is a tiny part of the whole book, yet anti-gay ignoramuses pick on it to justify anything they do to counter the tide of equality that is on a roll.

Christ would turn in his grave if he had one.
