Architecture Wednesday: A Stable Home

Many times it been said that I was born in a barn, though it’s never been said that I was born in a manger, so, yeah, there’s that.
But what about a stable? Isn’t it like a barn? And kinda like a manger?
And if it looked like this, I’d be happy to call it home.
This historic stable in Melbourne, Australia, has put aside the bales of hale, and the scent of, um, horse manure, to become a state-of-the-art luxury home.
The architect merged the original bluestone, bricks and timber with vast expanses of glass, honed bluestone and recycled hardwoods creating an amazing blend of old and new.
The main entrance is imposing and impressive; double height glass and a dramatic floating timber staircase that leads up to the light-filled living spaces. On one side an inviting living room with a custom gas fireplace and on the other is the dining area, with a view to the gourmet stainless steel kitchen.
The master bedroom, on the next level, boasts double closets—his and his—and a marble master bathroom fir for a couple of queens.
A second bedroom is on the ground floor with its own en suite and study.
If this is a barn, er, manger, er, stable, count me in and forward my mail.
