Answer: What Are Afghanistan, Social Security , Medicare, Afghanistan and Undocumented Immigration?

Question: What did Mittsy Romney leave out of his speech at the GOP convention?

Hot button issues, no? Yet oh-so-not presidential candidate Romney didn't want to be bothered addressing these issues when he pandered for votes last week in Tampa.
Oh but he made sure to pledge to "protect the sanctity of life" so the deeply embedded in conservatism followers might like him more; and he talked of being a Mormon, for one of the few times he didn't refer to the Latter Day Saints as "my faith." And he had his programmers select the tear program so he could show some emotion when he talked about wanting to wake up again with a pile of children in the bedroom he shares with wife Ann.

But what he didn't say says a great deal about candidate Romney, like:
  • WHAT TO DO ABOUT WAR. Most Americans want us out of Afghanistan, and most Americans see Obama as doing just that, but Mittsy didn't bring it up. Oh, in the past he's criticized Obama for signaling when the drawdown in Afghanistan would happen, but he has no plan of his own. Or, if he does, he didn't bother to mention it.
  • GOVERNMENT AID. Mittsy doesn't talk about Social Security, other than to say he would gradually raise the retirement age on the massive program for aid to seniors. He also, unlike his running mate, Lyin' Paul Ryan, steers clear of proposals to touch Medicare and Social Security in the short run, which leaves a relatively limited portion of the $3.6 trillion federal budget to cut. In fact, his choice of Paul Ryan is a sore point as the Democrats have made Ryan's budget proposals that call for Social Security benefits based on workers' needs and optional private alternatives to Medicare an issue Romney won't discuss.
  • UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRATION. Yeah again he's remarkably silent, though during the primaries he seemed to stand tougher on the issue than he had in the past. So, he went from being weak in his arguments, to being tough in his resolve, to just not talking about immigration. Not good at all for the GOP, as they try to woo Hispanic voters-- the nation's fastest-growing ethnic minority group--away from the Democrats.

But that's Mittsy. If he doesn't have an opinion, or has changed his opinion over time, which is basically what he does depending on to whom he is speaking, then he just won't talk at all.

And who wants to vote for a man who says nothing? And does nothing?

And now Mittsy’s campaign has gone on the defensive over the issues left behind. Though he made no mention at all of the eleven-year-old highly unpopular war in Afghanistan—and is the first Republican since 1952 to accept his party's nomination without mentioning war—his senior campaign adviser Eric Fehrnstrom called Romney’s speech a home run.

But, um, Eric? What about all those issues he failed to address?

Well, Fehrnstrom said Mittsy didn't talk about war in his convention speech because he had already talked it in a previous speech:
"The day before the convention speech, Governor Romney traveled to Indianapolis on Wednesday and he gave a speech before the American Legion. Governor Romney thought it was a privilege to be speaking to people who had served so nobly and in that speech, he talked about Afghanistan. He also talked about the $1 trillion dollars in defense cuts that are going to be taking place under this president."
Wait, let me get this queer. So, Mittsy talked it about the war, er, wars, in Indianapolis, but when given a chance to discuss those issues on a global stage, he opts out? No wonder more people were interested in some “Honey Boo” reality show than Mittsy Romney.

  1. Did you see (hear) what Mittsy actually said at that speech to the American Legion the day before? One word "Afghanistan". That was it.

Romney and the Liar Ryan have no moral core. They lie with ease and have no sense of true patriotism. They don't get it. Unfortunately, there are so many Obama haters out there that Romney and the Liar Ryan may just get elected. What a tragedy that would be for this country.
