Look, I know the economy is bad, and the housing market is in the toilet, but.........WTF?
A Frank Lloyd Wright prairie-style home--let's say that again: A.Frank.Lloyd.Wright.Prairie.
Style.Home.--has been on the market for a year and hasn't sold.
Now, they've cut the price on a, and sorry if I keep saying this, Frank Lloyd Wright prairie-style home down to it's current price of $1.38 million.
This, my friends, is what you call a bargain!
The house is the William E. Martin house in Oak Park, Illinois, where Frank Lloyd Wright actually lived and worked, designing over 25 buildings. Realtor Laura Talaske of Gloor Realty says the FLW house is a piece of history, and a steal at just over one-million-three. She says, and I concur: "Living in a Wright house is like living in a work of art. So that does affect the price. It's not just bricks and mortar, it really is more than that."
Then again, she owns it.
And, as if that isn't shocking enough, according to the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy, there are some twenty other Wright-designed homes on the market right now around the country.
The WE Martin House is unusual for its height, being taller than most homes. But the 1903 home contains some of Frank Lloyd Wright's signature details like original woodwork, built-ins and art-glass windows--in fact, there are almost sixty art glass windows in the house.
In line with Wright's visionary idea that homes should relate to their surroundings, this one features several porches that reach out to the hug the land. One porch overlooks a koi pond and perennial gardens. There are just two modern updates to the W.E. Martin House: a renovated kitchen and addition of central air.
So, who's in?
Seriously.
A Frank-effin-Lloyd-effin-Wright house!

I wish I could afford one. Sigh
ReplyDeleteWill they take a (bad) check???
ReplyDeleteI love his homes... I've seen a few... they're so custom for the owners that they can sometimes be impractical. I agree with her statement... it's like living in a piece of artwork.
