Architecture Wednesday: Sea Ranch

One of my favorite places on earth, Sea Ranch, is located on the Northern California Coast, above San Francisco. The native grasses, the beautiful trees, the rugged coastline, the gorgeous beaches. It sings Peace to me.

Turnbull Griffin Haesloop designed this particular Sea Ranch residence, and says:
The site for this small Sea Ranch house is edged with mature evergreen trees and opens to a meadow with views out to the Pacific Ocean. The clients wanted an understated, flowing house that captured their love of Japanese simplicity. Our solution starts with a vernacular barn form and carves away to shape an exterior octagonal deck that opens to the meadow and the view. A continuous band of windows and doors follow the outline of the cutout to capture the panoramic views. Cedar ceilings and sheetrock walls create a clean minimalist interior, and the window wall features exposed wood framing and structural steel.

Very nice however it wouldn't fit my cluttered lifestyle. One thing out of place would ruin it.

  4. Thanks for showing some Sea Ranch. I've never been but I worked at William Turnbull & Associates in the early 90s and it was a really nice place to see design taking place. Do architects only work on computers now? Back then they still used drafting tables and those electric erasers that make a lovely whirring sound. Very cool.
