Oh Wisconsin

Apparently the powers that be up Wisconsin way have a very important issue on their hands.

Not marriage equality.
Not an economic crisis.
Not pollution or rampant crime.

Silly me. Wisconsin is afraid that not as many people are hunting these days. Yes. Hunting.

What to do. What to do.

Lightbulb!

The legislature has passed, and the governor is expected to sign, a bill making it easier for children to hunt, by lowering the legal age from 12 to 10 and by removing safety-training requirements.

Arm the children and give them no safety instruction or requirements. Used to be the kid had to be twelve and they had to be safety requirements. Now it's okie-dokie to give a child two years younger a gun and waive the safety requirements!

But it gets better.

The little kiddies get reduced license fees.

Arm 'em. Don't train 'em. And make it easy to pay with your allowance.

Actually, I'm a life member of the N.R.A. and I'm thinking this is nuts. I really, really hope there's more to this story than what you're reporting.

  5. I hope our legislature doesn't find out about this! How crazy can you get?

The local paper had an article today about how local restaurants and bars aren't going to allow guns no matter what the bad-idea law says. They are posting signs prohibiting guns and enforcing it. This gives me hope. The sponsor of the law is from this county and made a statement saying he respected the property rights of the managers who were within their right to disallow guns at their establishment. Mighty white of him, isn't it? And he's a Democrat!

  8. Will Wal-Mart now include a children's firearm section and sell gun racks for bikes?

    I wouldn't be surprised . . .

  10. Oh dear god... what next? Remove the driver's license requirement so that the 10 year olds with guns can drive cars too?
