Tuesday Thought #2

  1. We will NEVER know the fear of being pulled over like the black community...even if it's for only something simple, like a broken taillight. I can't blame then either.

  2. Bob, I have a blogger friend from France who wrote the following about my post with Molly Ivins' piece on gun violence:
"This is the one thing we don't understand about America..."
I replied that I didn't, either - neither do I understand the fears my black family has for getting stopped in their car for a minor incident.
We are fundamentally flawed as individuals and as a nation whose law enforcement officers routinely target black people for breathing the same air. I fear we have more to fear than fear itself.

I don't understand why people feel they NEED guns but aren't for training and licensing and registration of those weapons.
You have to learn to drive a car, you have to have a license to drive a car, you have to have your car registered. But guns???

  5. I will never understand why cops don't let them run, if it's a minor offense. A serial killer? Or imminent threat? Sure. Calls for some fast action. But expired plates? A warrant for a missed court date? Come on. You got their car. You think they're not coming back to get it? You think that warrants pointing a gun at someone? I have had two very bad interactions with cops. They over react because they take it personal. In one instance? All I had on was a pair of running shorts. And they still pulled a gun on me? Like what did they think I was doing? Or going to do? I was just asking them to be respectful. So, there should be a higher bar for a police officer than there is a bouncer at a bar. There should be psychological tests to eliminated killers. Cops need to live in the community they patrol because they are part of a community then and there are consequences for their actions. They can be held accountable. And guns? Why? Why is pulling a gun their go to? I have a healthy fear of cops. When I have been pulled over, it is yes, sir. no, officer. I play the game. But when you get an a-hole, you get an a-hole and they are going to point that gun at you - not because it's that important, but because they can.

That was my thought. You had seen his driver's license, his license plate, the make and model of the car, so if he runs, good. That way no one ends up dead over an AIR FRESHENER!!!!!

  7. Two of my friends have told me about 'having the talk' with their sons. Both are Black and both have teen boys. It's heartbreaking when a mother tells you that they fret EVERY FUCKING TIME the kid leaves the house. Every. Time. Because any Black man could be the next George Floyd or the next Daunte Wright. Or a Black girl could be the next Breonna Taylor. Or Sandra Bland... Or....

    XOXO

  8. Nothing should matter but who you are; in an ideal world police would only be there to ensure that laws are adhered to, not to kill anyone who doesn't fit their idea of what is right.

Say anything, but keep it civil .......
