Architecture Wednesday: Pueblo-style from 1700s

This three-hundred-plus year-old house was purchased by photographer Dani Brubaker in 2022 from longtime resident Yolanda Ortiz y Pino who had lived in the home for 63 years. Dani collaborated with artist Patricia Larsen to maintain the authentic old-world charm of the home though it was completely updated with new roof, new stucco, new electrical, radiant heating, and new plumbing.

The ageless property lies along Galisteo Creek and was partially built in the 1700s in the traditional pueblo style with adobe and rock walls, and viga ceilings. The wabi-sabi—a world view centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection—remodel has a minimalist vibe that incorporates nature and light, typical of the work by designer Larsen who worked on the current iteration of this home.

You enter the home under an expansive portal that faces the courtyard and offers evening respite from the sun. The resulting split floor plan includes 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, a kitchenette between the guest rooms, versatile spaces that can be used for a home office or gym, a 2-car garage, and a grand room superb for entertaining. If you are looking for a completely Zen experience the primary bedroom and bathroom are the perfect spot.

Some spectacular details: the door to the primary suite is painted with designs by the iconic Fremont Ellis, a founding member of Los Cinco Pintores, a Santa Fe modernist art society formed in the 1920s; a small 3 room building that sits on the edge of the courtyard, is said to be the oldest home in Galisteo, has electric and 2 fireplaces and could be converted to host guests if desired.

The home is for sale for $1.9M and includes the .66 acres that the home and well sit on, along with a combined 3.46 acre set of parcels that connects the home to the Galisteo Creek and another .85-acre parcel that runs along Hwy 41 off of the front of the home that is commercially viable.

It just seems calm and peaceful and serene and historic, aged and ageless, and very ‘of the Earth’ to me. I like so many different home styles but this one, because of the age and the design inside, calls to me … but how nice if it called to me with a purchase offer far, far lower?

Or, you know, Christmas is coming and if y’all chipped in … ?

The Pedophiles Are Inside The Churches ... Still

It’s been a while since we noted the child sexual abuse going on in our nation’s churches by our church leaders, teachers, and such.

So let’s take a look, thanks to JoeMyGod, at the latest scandals …

INDIANA

Stephen Ayon, a former English teacher and volleyball coach at Fishers Christian Academy was arrested and accused of sexual misconduct with a student, according to court records. He faces three counts of sexual misconduct with a minor, three counts of child seduction and one count of dissemination of matter harmful to minors.

FLORIDA

David Nims, a former Calvary Baptist Church youth director, was sentenced to 50 years in state prison for hiding a camera in the church bathroom to record people and possessing child pornography.

CALIFORNIA

Nicholas Garrett Corl, a Baptist church faculty member was arrested on suspicion of felony lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 years of age.

Todd Baldwin, a department staff member at Valley Christian Schools in San Jose, was arrested for possession and distribution of explicit digital media involving juveniles. Baldwin is also suspected of allegedly paying students for the explicit images and videos.

Barry Fike, a minister and former teacher at Fillmore Church of Christ, has been charged with multiple felony counts of child abuse, including accusations that he tried to meet up with a 15-year-old girl for sex.

ILLINOIS

Garrett Biggerstaff, a pastor and athletic director pleaded guilty to one of two felony charges of child grooming.

Ferrell Kissiar, a former assistant pastor at the Pentecostal Church in Patoka was sentenced to a total of 30 years in prison after various consecutive sentences were handed down in the plea agreement for his involvement in a child pornography ring.

GEORGIA

Kelly Garrett Ivey was indicted for attempting to sell an underage girl on the dark web. In addition, his church, the Rock Springs Church and its affiliated school, Rock Springs Christian Academy, also faces allegations it failed to warn congregants about Ivey trying to traffic a 16-year-old.

VIRGINIA

TEXAS

David Lloyd Walter, pastor at Faith Baptist Church, pleaded guilty to federal charges related to child sexual abuse material; Walther knowingly searched for, downloaded, distributed and possessed child pornography.

Ronnie Allen Killingsworth, pastor of a Wichita Falls church, has been indicted on six counts of indecency with a child by sexual contact.

NEW MEXICO

Daniel Balizan, a Roman Catholic priest who was removed from a Santa Fe parish nearly a year ago amid a misconduct investigation, has been charged with enticement of a minor with the intent to engage in sexual activity.

WISCONSIN

Jordan Huffman, a former Plover youth pastor, has agreed to a plea deal after pleading guilty to two counts of repeated sexual assault of a child; six other charges were dismissed as part of the plea deal.

PENNSYLVANIA

Marvin Leroy Mosley, former pastor of United Methodist Church in West Penn Twp., was charged with indecent assault involving three juvenile girls between 2007 and 2012. Mosley is no longer a pastor at the United Methodist Church but at the time of his arrest was serving at a church outside of Schuylkill County.

And again, not one drag queen or gay person in the bunch.

Huh, it’s almost like that whole ‘gay people and drag queens are grooming children” nonsense is a lie to cover-up for the real groomers … the so-called Men and Women of God.

Bobservations

Lately Carlos has been asking Sri to tell him jokes, which the then saves up for me, telling me as were in bed about to doze off; jokes like:

A park ranger warned some campers:

“Never get on the bad side of a bear.”

“What side is the bad side?”

“The inside.”

Or …

I make a lot of Dad jokes for someone who’s not a Dad.

It’s a real faux Pa.

Or …

I was washing the car with a friend and someone asked:

“Can’t you just use a sponge?”

I have told him that I will murder him one night in his sleep for these jokes and I will get off on the charge once I tell people what he’s doing.

Those jokes are a crime punishable by death … or at least being hit in the head with a cartoon frying pan.

This one, about The Great Tuxedo, is from March 2009:
"I was on yard patrol today, raking leaves, bagging, leaves, hauling bags across the lawn to be put in  the back of the car and taken. Tuxedo likes to sit in the window and watch.
But then he gave me the Pouty Face when I came inside because he isn't allowed to go outside.
Then he decided to punish me for leaving him in the house while I was outside having 'fun.'
Note to self: Don't piss off Tuxedo!"
Carlos was amazed that tuxedo would attack my hand and biting like that, but it didn't really hurt, it was just how we played.
I miss that.

I don’t eat fast food, but for some it’s a way of the life and maybe their only joy? Take one Belinda Miller from Georgia who drove her SUV through the front doors of her local Popeye’s because she claims they didn’t give her her biscuits.

According to the police, Richmond County sheriff’s deputies responded to Popeye’s for an accident with injuries and the manager told them that Miller drove her SUV into the east entrance after she became upset that her order did not have any biscuits. She continued to ram her car into the store and then decided she’d made her point and left for home, where police found her. She has been charged with aggravated assault and criminal damage to the property.

Like I said, I don’t eat fast food, but, damn, those must be some good biscuits!

At a recent publicity stop in Iowa Julie Ross, who calls herself a “craftivist”, gifted Florida’s Anti-Woke Governor Ron de Fascist with a handmade snowflake. But the joke was on Ronnie because, look closely, the snowflake is made of the word ‘fascist.’

Love it!

Everyone’s talking about the Big Dress at the Oscars last weekend, and I missed the photo of Nigerian singer Tems, who co-wrote Lift Me Up, from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and her giant hood.

People seated behind her craned their necks to watch the show, but I’d have found a tiny pair of sheers and cut myself a face one and pushed my head through right beside hers.

Seriously, look at her gorgeous face that has Zero Fucks to give anyone sitting behind or beside her. Lift Me Up, indeed, so I can see that show!

Last week at church, the pastor asked if anyone would like to express praise for answered prayers, and Susan Greene took to the podium:

"I have a praise. Two months ago my husband, Phil, had a terrible bicycle wreck and his scrotum was completely crushed. The pain was excruciating and the doctors didn't know if they could help him."

The men in the congregation gasped and clutched their nether regions as Mrs. Greene continued:

"Phil was unable to hold me or the children, and every move caused him terrible pain. We prayed as the doctors performed an operation to piece together the crushed remnants of his scrotum and wrap wire around it to hold it in place."

The men in church were visibly squirming now:

“Thank the Lord, Phil is out of the hospital and the doctors say that with time, his scrotum should recover completely."

The men sighed and the pastor asked if anyone else had praise; a man stood, and walked to the podium:

"I'm Phil, and I just want to tell my wife the word is sternum."

Oh.

The New Mexico legislature has passed legislation, officially titled the Human Rights Modernization Act, to modernize the state’s anti-discrimination law by adding explicit protections for LGBTQ+ people.

The proposed law, which Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham is expected to sign, establishes a broader slate of protections for LGBTQ+ people by defining gender and sex in state law and expanding existing definitions of sexual orientation and gender identity.

Good on New Mexico. Especially with the anti-LGBTQ+ nonsense going on around the rest of the country. This is what happens when you put adults, and by adults I mean Democrats, in charge.

Another show I’m enjoying is Alaska Daily, starring Hilary Swank as a reporter in Alaska covering the many stories of Indigenous women who go missing every year in this country; a couple of hotties co-star, and they are Craig Frank, left, and Shane McRae, right, and so I pose the question; Which One Would You Hit?

Architecture Wednesday: Classic Pueblo-Style Home in Santa Fe

Oh yes. I could live in this house and I could live in this town.

This 3,011-square-foot, three-bedroom, three bathroom beauty is located in Santa Fe’s historic Eastside neighborhood and evokes the traditional Pueblo-style architecture—sometimes called Pueblo Revival—of the American Southwest, which takes direct inspiration from Native American pueblo architecture and are often constructed from adobe and feature flat roofs and stuccoed walls.

Brick floors and traditional vigaslarge, rough-hewn wooden ceiling beams—are found throughout the home and the living room features one of the home’s five kiva fireplaces with a long, connected bench, known as a banco.

In the dining room French doors on either side offer direct access to the outdoors, as well as allowing a cool evening breeze to enter the home, and there’s another kiva fireplace that partially encloses the kitchen at the far end of the space. The updated kitchen features Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances and white-painted cabinets and open shelves with zigzag details match the bright, plastered walls.

A peaceful library with another cozy fireplace and a wall of built-ins and French doors screams a glass of Pinot and a good book on a WINTER’S NIGHT.

The principal bedroom has its own fireplace, as well as French doors on both sides of the room, as well as an en suite bathroom. There are two other bedrooms, and two bathrooms, each with beautiful tile-work and colorful sinks..

At the rear of the home is a large courtyard with a sheltered patio and yet another outdoor fireplace, perhaps for living outside as weather permits.

As I said, I live for the beams and the brick floors and the colorful tile and that outdoor space and all those cozy nooks and fireplaces.
