Vacation Post: ISBL Asshat of the Week: Drunk Driving Republican Tom Taylor

The GOP is home to the Family Values coalition, set up to protect children and women and Christians from the evils of the world, and o no one is more Family Values than Georgia Republican state Representative Tom Taylor.

Oh, and no one is more lying hypocritical Family Values Asshat than Tom Taylor because Taylor was stopped by Georgia police on April 7 and arrested for drunk driving.

That’s bad, but it gets worse; not only was Drunk Tommy putting every other driver on the road in danger because he chose to drive drunk he was also endangering the lives of the four children who were in the car with him at the time, though it’s not exactly clear who the kids were because Drunk Tommy and his wife only have a 23-year-old son.

That’s bad, but it gets worse; not only was Drunk Tommy driving drunk with children in the car but he was also carrying a loaded weapon in a holster.

That’s bad, but it gets worse; Drunk Tommy denied having anything to drink since having some wine the night before, but a search of the vehicle produced a water bottle which police said smelled of alcohol.

Howsabout that for Family Values: booze, kids and guns! Oh my.

Now, lest anyone think that maybe drunk Tommy had a beer after a hard day’s work spreading GOP hypocrisy, understand that when he was tested at the scene his blood alcohol level was .225 … almost three times the legal limit; and this all took place at 2:45 in the afternoon!

That’s bad, but it gets worse; one might think that being drunk and driving, with kids in the car and a loaded weapon strapped to your waist might bring with it a charge of “reckless endangerment” but not in Georgia; the gun was properly registered to Taylor, so there were no charges related to it. He was only charged with speeding, carrying an open container of alcohol and DUI.

Drunk Tommy and his Family Values Platform are in a tight primary fight against fellow Republican Tom Owens, and since this incident will only help him with the gun-toting, beer-swilling, redneck faction of the GOP, he issued a statement:
“I profoundly regret this serious mistake. There’s no one to blame but me, and I greatly appreciate the professionalism of the officers involved. This was my first run-in with the law in my life, and it will also be my last.”
Well, I don’t know if it’ll be his last run-in, but if it is, he definitely covered all bases: speeding, drunk driving, open bottle of liquor, endangering children and carrying a loaded firearm.

Gotta love those GOP Family Values.

And you gotta love an ISBL Asshat of the Week!

UPDATE: Justin Harris Is A Good Christian

It’s been scarcely a week since I first posted about Arkansas politician, Republican, and :::ahem::: good Christian man, Justin Harris, but let’s replay the back story:

Harris and his wife Marsha [above] adopted two little girls — a 3-year old and a 6-year old — but just over a year later, they “re-homed” the girls, which is a polite way of saying they gave them away, to another family, something that is perfectly legal in Arkansas where children can be traded like baseball cards and magazines. The husband in that family, Eric Cameron Francis, subsequently raped the 6-year old girl and two other little girls.

Since the story broke, Congressman Harris, who owns a Christian preschool, has been attacking Arkansas' Department of Human Services [DHS], which arranged the adoption. Harris says he had no choice but to “re-home” or “give away” the girls because DHS threatened to charge him with child abandonment if he tried to give them back. Harris also claims these two girls were a danger to his family, and that his three boys were forced to sleep in their parents' locked bedroom … because the girls are demons.

Linda Blair say what?

It seems the Harrises were desperate to “re-home” the girls because they believed them to be dangerous, although others who knew the family, and the girls, say the two just needed specialized care, having been victims of neglect and sexual abuse before being removed from their original home and placed with DHS.

Chelsey Goldsborough, a babysitter for the Harris family, said one of the girls, "Mary," was kept away from her sister "Annie" and from the rest of the family, often locked in her room which was outfitted with locks, alarms and video cameras; the Harrises believed the girls were possessed by demons and could communicate telepathically.
"The first night I was over there, I just broke down and cried with this little girl because I just felt so bad for her." — Chelsey Goldsborough
Goldsborough also says the Harrises claim to have seen proof of demons in a photograph, saying they showed her a "picture of [Mary] where they're like, 'You can see the demon rising from her back,' and it just looked like a little 6-year-old to me."

Goldsborough says the Harrises hired specialists to perform an ‘exorcism’ on the girls while she waited outside the house with the boys; multiple other sources, who knew the family and the girls, confirm Goldsborough's account that the Harrises believed the girls were possessed. Naturally, Justin and Marsha Harris deny those claims and, through their attorney, say that “exorcisms and telepathy” are not part of their religious practice.

I hope DHS starts an investigation, and that someone can find those videos of a little girl locked in her room before she was given away like an old suit of clothes to the Salvation Army.

I can imagine it being hard to take in two children who came from such a horrendous, violent and unstable background, but then to simply give them away because it got too hard, is reprehensible. It does no good for those girls who probably were in need of specialized care ... not isolation and exorcism.

SIDENOTE: It appears this story will not go away soon; the Arkansas Times broke the story originally and are continuing their investigation into the Harrises and their home life.

Every Child Needs A Mother and Father

Sarah and Jonathan Adleta
So, the latest news out of Russia is the push to stop gay couples, or even gay singles, from being parents; no adoptions, ever! And, there seems to be a threat that if a gay couple, or a gay single, has a child, that the government might try to remove that child from the home. This all feeds off that old anti-gay chestnut that conservatives, Republicans, religious zealots, and rightwingsnuts like to spin, that ‘ever child needs a mother and a father.’

I wonder how those folks would feel about Jonathan and Sarah Adleta.

A former Marine, one of Jonathan Adleta’s dreams was to have a daughter, and when he did he would have sex with her. Yes, he longed for that day, and when his girlfriend, Sarah, became pregnant with a daughter, he said he would only marry her if she allowed him to have sex with his child. And she said okay. Later, when the Adleta’s had a son, Sarah was expected to have sex with him.

Every child needs a mother and a father.

In court, Sarah Adleta testified that when she began dating Jonathan in 2008, he would tell her stories of fathers and daughters having sex, and when she became pregnant he told her they would marry only if she allowed him to do the same.

Sarah said she felt uncomfortable with the idea and hoped Jonathan would lose interest, but went through with the wedding and the child abuse anyway, because, she said, she loved him and needed the financial security he provided.

So, basically, for a roof over her head, she let her husband sexually abuse her child.

In 2009, Sarah Adleta became pregnant with their son, and the couple married the next year. Adleta was deployed to Afghanistan soon after, but when he returned, the family moved to California, where he was stationed, and it was there that he told his wife, again, that he would be having a sexual relationship with their daughter.

And he did; and she did, too.

But I guess not even child molesters are safe from divorce and in 2011, Jonathan and Sarah Adleta split up; she moved back to Central Florida, though she continued to let her ex-husband have a sexually inappropriate relationship with their daughter over the internet.

But, that wasn’t enough for Jonathan, and in 2012, he found himself another girlfriend, another mother who allowed him to have sex with her daughter. That girlfriend — Samantha Bryant — whom he met online, testified in court that she watched Adleta have sex with her child, and even took pictures of the abuse.

Bryant — who has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting her own child, and allowing Adleta to do the same — also testified that Adleta asked her to write fantasies about him having sex with his daughter and her daughter, and she did; in fact, she took it a step further, and, she says, at his request, she also began sexually molesting her own child.

Then, last December, Samantha and her two children spent Christmas — a nice family holiday — in Oklahoma with Jonathan and Sarah Adleta and their two children. Sarah Adleta said that, while there, her former husband sexually abused their daughter in his bedroom and called her in to watch.
"She seemed very resistant."—Sarah Adleta, speaking about watching her child being raped by her father
And she testified that the girl seemed "really upset" and "frightened" but she didn’t try to stop it; she stood and watched.

After the family Christmas, Sarah and the children returned to Florida, but then Jonathan suggested she find another man to sexually molest their daughter so the girl would become comfortable with the sex acts, and then maybe she wouldn’t be so frightened and upset when she was being raped by her father and other men.

Sarah found Aaron Dixon — a North Carolina man who was later arrested on child-sex charges in an unrelated case — and part of their internet ‘dating’ routine was to have Aaron watch her, via Skype, while she had sex with her own children.

Sarah Adleta has pleaded guilty in May to two charges of sexual exploitation of a minor — her son — and faces up to 30 years in federal prison; Jonathan Adleta was found guilty of two child-sex charges and faces ten years to life in prison.

Like I said, there are many people who say every child needs a mother and a father, and there are some who think that the Adleta’s are better qualified to be parents that a loving gay couple. And I know that not all straight parents are like this, that people like the Adletas, Samantha Bryant, and Aaron Dixon, are not the norm, but hearing stories like these, on the heels of hearing people say that a gay couple cannot adequately love, nurture and parent a child, infuriates me.

Now, if you’re like me, you’ll need to take a minute, or maybe longer, to go scrub the filth of this story out of your mind. And come back later, when I'll have a Trio of Good News Stories.

The Height of GOP Stupidity, Part Six: Don Dwyer Is A Drunk Boater

Don H. Dwyer Jr, a Maryland delegate, is the poster boy for the GOP. He hates The Gays and works very hard to keep us from equality. He also wants to keep us from adopting children because he says The Gays are bad for kids. On the plus side, Dwyer supported a ballot measure that would strip lawmakers of their office if they are found guilty of serious crimes; Maryland voters will make a decision on this ballot measure in November.
Why is any of this interesting?
Well, Dwyer was out on his boat over the weekend, with another man--and I leave any thoughts of alleged homosexually to the reader, though we all know the biggest homophobes are the closeted homosexuals--and they were having drinks. Dwyer was apparently having a lot of drinks, and after getting his drunk on full bore he crashed his boat into a boat full of children.
Four of the children were injured with one, a five year old girl, taken by helicopter to Baltimore’s Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, while the two adults on the boat were unharmed.
The crash was so severe that Dwyer’s boat sunk in the river. Luckily, Dwyer survived and his blood alcohol level was 0.2, which is twice the legal limit.
Oh, the irony. The man who says Gay folks are bad for kids, gets riproaring drunk while "boating" with a buddy and crashes into a boat filled with children. Who's the danger again, Don?
Dwyer said, at a press conference, "It is true that I was drinking while operating my boat. No one, no one, should be drinking and operating a motor vehicle or powerboat. I deeply regret my actions, and I ask for forgiveness from the public. My heart and prayers go out to the family that was involved in the accident, and I pray for them to have a speedy recovery."
Pot.Kettle.Time to get out of office, Don.
See, if Dwyer's ballot measure passes in November, then this little Tea Party man might just find himself out of office under the law.
Well, at least he got one thing right.
