Architecture Wednesday: Topanga Canyon Spanish Contemporary

Here we are, back in Topanga Canyon again, though this one if nothing like last weeks’ 1970s rustic vibes. This sleek Spanish style oasis is tranquil and peaceful and muted and calm and contemporary.

This Spanish-inspired residence blends seamlessly with the lush natural landscape and the two bedroom, two-and-a-half bathroom home has been fully remodeled. It now features hand troweled lime plaster in all living spaces and wide white oak plank floors throughout.

The bright herringbone floored sunken living room opens up to a deck over the attached garage and has sweeping canyon views and a double-sided fireplace that is also open to the kitchen. On that deck you have an outdoor dining area, lounge, built in BBQ and outdoor fireplace. Inside, just off the living room is the dining area and the kitchen featuring limestone floors, travertine countertops, custom plaster, reclaimed oak beam shelving, hand patina'd brass hardware, and a nickel sink faucet & pot filler.

There are two spacious primary ensuite bedrooms, the first with an adjoining office/sitting room and a designer bathroom with travertine floors and counters, and vintage beam accents.  The second primary suite has a built-in reading nook and bathroom with stone floors and soaking tub.

The backyard is sited under a mature palm tree, with a saltwater pool, spa and tons of space for lounging and dining.

It’s peaceful and calm and luxurious …

Architecture Wednesday: 70s Flashback

This beautiful home, a time machine of sorts as it hasn’t been touched since 1975, is nestled in the desirable Lower Topanga neighborhood on a cul-de-sac; the post and beam architectural masterpiece boasting sweeping views of the city, flourishing gardens, and a detached guest house.

The dramatic great room features a 20-foot rock fireplace and walls of glass that lead out to a series of decks and patios, inviting the outdoors in. There are three bedrooms downstairs, an office/flex area on the main level, and a loft with bathroom upstairs. The primary suite features an authentic brick fireplace, and opens up to its own deck with panoramic views and gardens.

Outside are private patio areas, pond, sauna, hot tub, diverse mature trees, shrubs, and flowering bushes, along with a separate studio guest house with its own private patios. And there is also a detached children's playhouse and a six-car garage.

And it’s close to PCH and the shops and restaurants in Malibu.
