Random Musings
Well, the ongoing Wake-Up-With-A-Song-My-Head-Every-Morning saga is....still....ongoing. For over a week and a half now, it's been "How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria", though not the entire song, just the lines, "I'd like to say a word on her behalf. What is it, Sister? Maria, makes me Laugh." Seriously, I drove Carlos crazy because I would just spout that for no reason.
Then, the song morphed into " When You're Good To Mama" from Chicago, and I found myself saying, to just about anyone, "So boost me up that ladder, kid, and I'll boost you up yours." I cannot tell you how many heads at work turned when I uttered that little gem.
Finally, after a couple of days of, well, boosting Maria up hers, my brain finally settled on Pink's Perfect. "Pretty, pretty please, don't you ever, ever feel, like you're less than, less than perfect."

I've nearly gone nuts thinking how these three wound up on that loop in my head!
The three frontrunners for the GOP nomination for president are Herman Cain, Mitt Romney and... and... and... ...

I love a coming out story, especially one that just happens.
California assemblywoman Cathleen Galgiani was giving an interview to The Record of Stockton and, during that chat, she came out as a lesbian, saying she hoped her admission would send a positive message to LGBT youth, especially those struggling to come to terms with their sexual identity.
Her announcement brings the number of openly gay California lawmakers to eight. Her addition would make the Legislature's LGBT Caucus, formed in 2002, the country's largest caucus recognizing openly gay legislators in the country.
Welcome out, Cathleen. Homo HQ will be rushing to you your copy of The Gay Agenda and your Lowes gift card.
Welcome out. [source]
The new thing this year on TV is the updated, twisted on it's side, make it dark, make it sexy, fairytale show.
The kind folks at ABC are giving us 'Once Upon A Time', which re-imagines what might have happened had an evil queen--no....not Elton--sent all the fairytale characters to live with amnesia in a small town in Maine.
Then NBC offered us the far darker, 'Grimm,' sort of a police procedural--a Law & Order: Magical Forest, if you will--about fairytale characters come to life, and how they might fare in today's world with a hot cop on their trail.
Now, while I enjoy them both, 'Grimm' I like better, because it's a bit darker, and less, well, fairytale-ish. But, both shows have some shiny new man-candy going on, which makes tuning in all the moire interesting.
'Once' has Josh Dallas, as Prince Charming, and, I must say, he knows how to fill out a pair of leather riding pants; that's alweays a high scorer on my list. FYI. And 'Grim' has the dark and sexy cop on the trail of nasty fairytale creatures, in one David Giuntoli. He makes me wanna go all Three Little Pigs on him. TMI.
Prince Charming and a Grimm.
I'm in.
How surprising is it that people are rioting in the streets over the firing of a football coach, but when they heard about the child rapist, and those who covered his ass, they just went tailgating instead?
I kind of love all these so-called "religiously affiliated" groups that hate on The Gays. They all use the word "family" in their name, like The Gays don't come from families, or aren't families, or can't make a family. Okay, I don't love 'em, so much as I laugh at 'em.

Case in point: the "Family" Research Council ["F"RC] who awarded Illinois Republican congressman, Joe Walsh, a 100 percent rating as a “True Blue” member of Congress because of his “unwavering support of the family”. This "family" group just loves Joe Walsh.
But, um, Joe may not love family so much; or at least his own family. Joe Walsh owes $117,000 in unpaid child support to his ex-wife. In fact, Walsh, who earns quite the hefty salary, actually refuses to pay his ex-wife to support his children.
And yet, according to "F"RC wingnut-in-charge Tony Perkins: “We thank Cong. Walsh who has voted consistently to defend faith, family and freedom. Cong. Walsh and other ‘True Blue Members’ have voted to repeal Obamacare, de-fund Planned Parenthood, end government funding for abortion within the health care law, uphold the Defense of Marriage Act, and continue support for school choice. I applaud their commitment to uphold the institutions of marriage and family.”
Just not their own. Apparently. [source].It seems that Ricky has become a Spanish citizen so that he can now legally marry his boyfriend, Carlos Gonzalez Abella.
It seems Ricky received a “letter of naturalization” from Spain’s government, which allows him to skip many of the steps typically required for citizenship.
The only question now, it seems, is when is the big day.
This story warms the cold depths of my snark-filled heart because it's just further proof that living in the closet is such a dark place, and coming pout, and living openly makes life so much sweeter.
Congrats to Ricky and his Carlos from me and mine. [source].

Those Wacky Republicans
Talk about out of touch.
I mean, in the House, they voted to repeal Health Care Reform--or as they civilly called it, "killing" health Care Reform--which caused a congressman from South Carolina--sigh, are they all idiots here?--Joe "You lie" Wilson to Tweet: "We repealed Obamacare!"
Except, Joe, you lie. You didn't repeal it; you voted to repeal it. It won't happen in the Senate, and even if it does, Obama will veto it.
But keep celebrating your non-win Joe, because now you don't have to focus on the economy, which most Americans are most concerned about, or those two pesky wars, or the environment, or anything else that matters and maybe, just maybe, can get fixed.
And, to further prove my point that the Republicans heads are shoved so far up their collective out of touch asses, we have Iowa.
All those Republicans, and I'm looking first at you Steve King, you moron, want to remove those radical activist judges who interpreted the Iowa Constitution to mean everyone is equal under the law, and to let gay men and women marry. King and his brand of inbreds want to install their own radical activist judges on the bench so they can take away equality.
But guess what, asshats?
According to a recent poll, while you are busy introducing resolutions to place a marriage referendum on the ballot, and are feverishly drafting legislation to impeach the four remaining state Supreme Court justices who joined a unanimous 2009 decision that brought equal marriage to the state, a new poll released by the group Justice Not Politics, finds that only 36% of Iowans agree with you, and 54% of Iowans think you're a bunch of fucktards.
I think Iowans want you to focus on, oh, the economy, maybe; on unemployment. perhaps. But you want to fight this fight because you think you're right.
But you aren't. You're just the typical, shortsighted Republicans.

South Carolina: Four More Years...Of The Same
I don't know why I thought it would change, but I did.
Yet, as we wake up here in Smallville, we find that South Carolina has chosen the female version of Mark Sanford to run the state for the next four years.
Nikki Haley.
The fiscal conservative who had troubles paying her own taxes until the state threatened to put a lien on her property.
The fiscal conservative who promised transparency in government and then hid a $40,000 contract paid to her.
It's Mark Sanford all over again.
South Carolina will never learn.
See, we also sent sent Joe "You lie!" Wilson back to Washington.
The Joe Wilson who sent South Carolina jobs overseas.
The Joe Wilson who used tax payer money on personal travel.
South Carolina will never learn.

The Stench Of South Carolina Politics

Politics in Florida, in general, and Miami, in particular, were odd, to say the least. I moved to Miami just before the Bush-Gore-Hanging-Chad kerfuffle in 2000, but, luckily, I had voted absentee in California so I didn't hang my head in the days following the election,
And local Miami politics wasn't any better. I can't even count the number of politicians who went to jail, for everything from bribery charges, to allegations of spousal abuse, only to come out of prison, run for office again, and win.
I had hoped South Carolina would be different, and it is, but not in a good way.
South Carolina politics is mean and racist and, let's not forget, Christian--although how those three work in tandem I have yet to figure out.
Apparently, back in 2000, when John McCain was running against Bush in the presidential primary, rumors swirled that he fathered an illegitimate black child; and you just know that didn't go over too well with our Christian and racist voters. Then there is the story from 1990, when political consultant Rod Shealy, hoping to increase the turnout among anti-black white voters in the GOP primary, recruited a black candidate--which he correctly assumed would help his own candidate--to run for Congress. And of course we had Mark "Appalachian Trail Hiking" Sanford, who called himself a fiscal conservative family values man while flying first class to Argentina to see his mistress. Finally, I give you Joe "You lie" Wilson, who showed most of the country, the rational thinking part of the country, just how ridiculous our politicians are here in South Carolina.
We're so proud.
But now we have another asshat, running for governor, amid rumors of infidelity, and, well, this is a stretch, her ties to the Middle East; and we all know that's a bad thing.
Republican front-runner Nikki Haley is yet another pro-family, pro-life, pro-gun candidate who has the dubious backing of The Double Wingnuts, the Tea party and Sarah Palin. But she has been dogged by rumors of not one, but two adulterous affairs, both lodged by conservative political operatives who claim to have slept with her. And, as if that wasn't bad enough--we don't need another cheater in the governor's mansion--one of our state senators, who supports a Haley opponent, casually referred to her as a "raghead" because she is Indian-American. He then went on to suggest that she is some sort of Manchurian candidate supported by a "network of Sikhs" to take over the governorship.
During a visit to something called "Pub Politics"--an online political chat show hosted from a bar in Columbia...and you know that can't be good--state senator Jake Knotts said: "We already got one raghead in the White House; we don't need a raghead in the governor's mansion."
Ah, South Carolina politics. A breath of fresh air....mixed with skunk and horse manure.
You'd have thought that last idiotic statement by Knotts would have had his handlers scrambling to shut him up, but he just kept talking. He also claims that Haley was a plant being controlled by nefarious handlers; he believes Haley has been set up by a network of Sikhs and has been programmed to run for governor of South Carolina by outside influences in foreign countries. He claims she is hiding her religion and he wants the voters to know about it.
But, and I'm not saying there is some deeply secret Middle Eastern cabal working to elect Nikki Haley, she has taken to speaking less and less about her Sikh heritage and more and more about her Christian beliefs. Her own website, which once played up her attendance at both Sikh and Methodist religious services, now says only that she is a devout Christian, and that she sttends Sikh service only out of respect to her parents.
Is she hiding her Sikh background for the reasons Jake Knotts says, or is she hiding it because of the outbreak of adultery allegations? See, people here seem to think that if you're a Christian and you sin, it's kind of okay, because you'll cry on TV and beg to be forgiven. However, if you're any other religion, especially one o' them middle eastern ones, well, maybe cheating is part of your culture and we don't want none of that.
Whatever the reason, it's the same dirty politics here. Name-calling; allegations of "sinful" behavior; dark secrets. We don't cotton to the facts, to the record of the politician, to the actual words of those running for office. We prefer gossip and dirt and mud.
Jake Knots issued an apology for the "raghead" comment, claiming that it was "intended in jest" and that the "humorous content was lost in translation." Yes, it is funny to call someone a that word, as it is funny to call someone an N-word, or a gay man a fag, or a Latino person a spic; it's all fun and done in jest, at least that's how we roll in South Carolina.
Yet, even while apologizing to Nikki Haley, Jake Knotts got in one more jab by proclaiming that she, by hiding her religious background, or at the very least downplaying it, "is pretending to be someone she is not."
Andre Bauer, another Republican running for governor who has been the subject of taunts about his sexual orientation, also used the "pretending to be someone she is not" line himself when he asked that she take a lie-detector test to prove she isn't a cheater.
I make the suggestion that all political candidates in South Carolina take a polygraph.
Then we'll know whether Nikki Haley cheats on her husband.
Then we'll know whether Andre Bauer is a Friend of Dorothy's or not.
Then we'll know whether Joe Wilson is playing with a full deck.
Then we'll know whether Jake Knotts really is as racist as he sounds.
Then we'll know.

South Carolina Has A Dumbass In it, Lord Have Mercy On Our Souls

While I am still enraged, let me go off a bit about one of our homegrown asshats down here in the grand old :::cough cough::: state of South Carolina.
Yáll remember Congressman Joe Wilson? "You lie!"Joe Wilson? The Joe Wilson who said Obama's health care program would give free health care to illegal immigrants and the same Joe Wilson who voted for greater protections of illegal immigrants? The talk-out-of-both-sides-of-his-illiterate-ass Joe Wilson?
Good, now we're up to speed.
It seems Brainless Joe Wilson, a Republican, naturally, believes that President Obama has endangered American lives by not doing more to alleviate the nation's short supply of H1N1 vaccine. In fact, on camera, in an interview with CNCNews.com he actually says the Obama administration is "solely responsible" for the vaccine shortage because Obama is giving the vaccine to some foreign allies.
Okay, Joe, show me.
He can't; because Joe Wilson, and 95% of his congressional ilk, voted against a supplementary appropriations bill way back in June, which contained special funding to combat H1N1 both domestically and internationally. A No vote essentially equaled a vote against combating H1N1 and means Republicans who voted against it like Wilson favored a public health program that would have resulted in even less vaccine than is available now.
So, Joe, why don't you take your Klieg Light Of Blame and focus it directly on your two-faced, lying ass.
You.Lie.

Oh Joe, You Really Are The Weakest Link

I love a good Hollywood story with those twists and turns that you just never see coming. Like that movie, The Congressman With No Brain But A Mouth As Big As All Outdoors. You remember it? It premiered last Wednesday night? The one where the Congressman calls the President a liar at a Joint Session of Congress?
Yeah, that one.
It was good, for all the wrong reasons, until you hear the twist.
See, in the pivotal scene, Brainless Joe Wilson, of the Great State of South Carolina :::::cough cough:::: shouted "You lie!" as the president spoke about how the the health care bill would not cover, let's say it again WOULD NOT COVER, illegal immigrants.
The next day, as he steps through the ruins of his office, he announces, via videotape: “The supporters of the government takeover of health care and liberals who want to give health care to illegals are using my opposition as an excuse to distract from the critical questions being raised about this poorly conceived plan.”
But, like I said, there's a twist.
Get your popcorn and Raisinettes and Coke or Pepsi, and listen up.
In 2003, Joe "You Lie!" Wilson voted to provide federal funds for illegal immigrants’ health care. Yes, he voted FOR health care FOR illegal immigrants. The same thing he is so against today!
I. Did. Not. See. That. Coming.

Someone's Running Scared
It might have been more effective had he gone all Jimmy Swaggart on us. it's pitiful. It's too little. And it's far too late.
Rob Miller has raised $740,000 since Wilson called the President a liar.
Rob Miller has raised $740,000 since Wilson called the President a liar.
His Mouth Is Like A Shovel, The More He Talks The Deeper It Gets

I wish Joe Wilson had the same good manners as the President.
Yesterday President Obama accepted Congressman Joe Wilson’s apology for interrupting his health care speech, but then the South Carolina Republican Asshat insisted again that Obama had misled the nation with “inaccurate statements.”
So, let's see Joe, you said He Lied, but then apologized for saying it, and then basically called him a liar again. Be careful, Joe, Rob Miller's footsteps are gaining ground. Since your little outburst the Miller campaign has raised over $700,000.
Rob Miller: “As a former Marine, I was always trained to respect the chain of command. I was surprised that Congressman Wilson would disrespect the commander in chief on national television. His actions really exemplify everything that’s wrong in Washington. Shouting and name-calling have no place when we’re dealing with such important issues.”
Other Democrats, as well as some Republicans, have bashed Wilson for his inappropriate and disrespectful behavior, but Wilson claims that many of his house colleagues praised him.
“I’ve been very pleased at the number of people who have told me that what I said is what they felt,” Wilson said. But he didn't mention one single name of one single colleague who supported him. They support him, but refuse to do so in the light of day. They hide in the dark and criticize and name-call, but offer nothing else.
Still, for me, the kicker is this: Wilson acknowledges that Obama’s assertion about illegal immigrants was technically correct. “When he said illegal aliens would not be covered, the wording says that, but there’s no enforcement.” Wilson said. Illegal immigrants will not be covered, Joe. Say it again and again until it gets drilled into that thick skull of yours.
See, Barack Obama wasn't lying, Joe, you were.
You are the liar Joe Wilson, and you should be ashamed of yourself.

Musings

Here are a few things that i find interesting, annoying, cute or bothersome.
Tyra Banks took off her weave on the premiere of her talk show this week. i sort of wish she'd take off her head so we might never have to hear her speak again.
Jay Leno has left the Tonight Show so he can do the same show ninety minutes earlier. Does this seem like a stupid idea to anyone but me? I don't like Jay. I don't think he's funny. His humor is pedestrian. I will not be watching this mess.
I joined Twitter so I could rant about Joe Wilson. I don't know how long I'll stay this time, because my last try lasted one, er, Tweet.
I don't like Mike Isabella on Top Chef. he's an arrogant douchebag, and it seems he only wins when he works with someone else, like the Voltaggio brothers--Bryan is the cute one. I so wanted him to get the boot--or as Carlos says it now, You ARE the weakest link. Good bye! I was also hoping Mattin would go. it would have been great fun to see the french guy go in the French food challenge. Sidenote: Is it me, or does Mattin remind anyone else of PeeWee Herman, albeit a French PeeWee?
I saw Glee last night. I liked it. i wasn't as bowled over as some people were, but I thought it was cute. Of course, it didn't hurt to have Matthew Morrison in a bathtub, and the delicious Jane Lynch is a joy forever, plus Lea Michele has a lovely voice. and the writing is quite sharp. Hmmm, maybe I was bowled over?
Obama's speech last night was terrific. He knows how to speak, which is something we haven't seen in a president since last century, and he gets his point across. He was firm in his convictions and stated them brilliantly. I loved how he said he would call out those people who keep spreading lies about health care reform. Are you listening Death Panel Palin and Asshat Michele Bachmann?
While Carlos and I were doing our Gaybor Day shopping up in Charlotte, we happened upon some lamps. We never agree on lamps. he likes, and this is true, Monkeys. On. Lamps. I, however, do not. He'll find a lamp and I'll sneer and say, No....no....nononononononono. Then I find one and he'll grimace and says No...no...nononononononono. So, I find one that has a more traditional shape that Carlos might light--an urn shape--but it's made of shiny silver metal and therefore satisfies the need for something contemporary that i like. i hold it up, and Carlos says, No....no...nonononononono, I don't like metal. Nine years together and I did not know this. But imagine my surprise when, just a few aisles over, he said he found a bed frame that he loved. Yes, you guessed it, made of metal, in a shiny silver. If I didn't think he'd start crying I would have left him in the store.
Paris Hilton.
Lindsay Lohan.
Mark and Jenny Sanford.
Joe Wilson.
That's all.
Joe Must Go

Thanks for the apology Joe, it was oh so insincere. However, I really ought to thank you, because without your ability to watch your mouth and remember where you are at any given moment, something most of us learn as children, we would not be seeing what we're seeing.
Twitter is over capacity, because of you, Joe. People are disgusted by your behavior, and not just those of us here in South Carolina. People are disgusted by you the world over.
And, while you check out the web, stop in at your opponent, Rob Miller's FaceBook page and see what folks think of your ignorance, your stupidity, your lack of decorum.
And then trot on over to ActBlue and see how much money Rob has raised since you opened your mouth and said the wrong thing at the wrong time. Last night, David Dust reported Rob has raised $20,000; now it's over $90,000!
Way to go, Joe. You ought to quit now and go work on Rob Miller's campaign.
Free speech is good, Joe. I love it. Stupid speech, however, just may get you out of office.
Those of you who despise the Joe Wilsons of the world, head on over to ActBlue and give a little to Rob Miller. Then head on over to Rob's Facebook and become a friend.
Say goodnight, er, goodbye, Joe.
UPDATE: Rob Miller has now passed the $200,000 mark!
Oh Joe, Of You We're So Proud

It's kind of ironic that in my way of being snarky and sarcastic I poked a little fun at the narrow-minded people of South Carolina yesterday. I'll go on record, before I begin, to say that, although this can be a Backwoods-Bible-Thumping-Redneck state, there are a lot of nice people, gay and straight, who've welcomed us with open arms since Carlos and I moved here.
Okay. Done with that. Now.
What in the hell is wrong with Joe Wilson, a representative from the state of, gulp, South Carolina?
He's the asshat you may have heard, but have never heard of, until last night. He was the asshat who shouted out "You lie" to Obama while he was speaking about health care. Obama was saying that, under his plan, illegal immigrants would not be covered.
"You lie."
Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden shot daggers in the direction of the voice. Even Obama looked at Wilson, though he simply moved on. And Joe Wilson immediately apologized.
Oh wait. No, he didn't. He only apologized after many senators, including John McCain, called on him to apologize.
Joe Wilson: "My comments were inappropriate and regrettable. I extend sincere apologies to the president for this lack of civility."
This is the same Joe Wilson who told a South Carolina town hall meeting just last month that the key to fixing health care is a bipartisan plan: "I give a speech every day on the floor (of Congress) about how Democrats and Republicans should be working together to reform health care."
