Why Is It ...

… that when I say “Are we still going” I’m really trying to cancel the plans.

… that I like to make shopping lists and then leave them on the counter  and then guess what was on it when I get to the store; fun game.

… that when you roll your eyes at me, I think, ‘Keep on, maybe you’ll find a brain back there.’

… that the co-worker who asked me why I never smile at work doesn’t realize that I don’t get paid for that.

… that people don’t understand I am not a texter or an Instagrammer or a TikTok-er or Facetimer, I am a Do Not Disturber.

… that I hate going out in public and finding people there.

… that I’m the type of employee that doesn’t use the break room? I go to my car to get a real break from everyone.

… that you should never equate education with intelligence. You can have a masters and still be an idiot.

… that no one understands that I am not mean, I am brutally honest, and the truth hurts. So get a Band-Aid.

98 Things ...

I was perusing Voenix Rising, where there are some hot mens, some cool memes, and a pretty awesome take on politics, and saw that blogger Mark Alexander had written a list of things about who he was and how he lived a few years back and then recently revised to see if, and how, he changed. Now, I don’t have an original list, but here are 98 things about me …

1: Do you sleep with your closet doors open or closed? With cats you either sleep with the closet doors open or be prepared to have a cat demanding the door be opened in the middle of the night.

2: Do you take the shampoos and conditioner bottles from hotels? Yes, I do.

3: Do you sleep with your sheets tucked in or out? Tucked in at the bottom always.

4: Have you ever stolen a street sign before? I have not but now the thought has crossed my mind.

5: Do you like to use post-it notes? I don’t think I’ve ever used post-it notes at work or otherwise.

6: Do you cut out coupons but then never use them? I have but haven’t in a while since most stores give you the card that offers up discounts.

7: Would you rather be attacked by a big bear or a swarm of bees? I don’t think the bees would attack me and eat me alive so … bees?

8: Do you have freckles? A few, on my shoulders.

9: Do you always smile for pictures? Not always; I smirk a lot.

10: What is your biggest pet peeve? Thoughtless people, either of the rude variety, or those who don’t think for themselves.

11: Do you ever count your steps when you walk? I have now that you mention it.

12: Have you ever peed in the woods? Of course.

13: What about pooped in the woods? No, I am not an animal.

14: Do you ever dance even if there's no music playing? There’s always a song in my head so, yeah, sometimes I will bust a move.

So, last weekend that wacky and wild and funny Anne Marie, From My Brain To My Mouth, has nominated me for an award — the Liebster — for which I am extremely grateful and awed … because, you know, I was hoping for an Oscar first.

And since I had some pre-planned posts and since Donald [t]Rump went off the rails … again … it’s taken me a few days to respond.

I am supposed to nominate 11 other blogs for this award, but I’ll simply ask that those who like the idea just play along and see what we can learn about our internet families …

Here are the 11 Questions:

1] Which literary genre do you prefer?

I read almost everything … and a few things at the same time. I am currently reading Station Eleven …look, there’s that eleven again … about a traveling troupe of Shakespearean actors in a post-apocalyptic world. I am also reading Z, about Zelda Fitzgerald, F. Scott’s wife. And I am rereading A Clockwork Orange.

2] Why did you start blogging?

I like to write, I have a definite POV and I like sharing ideas and thoughts with other folks. Plus, I like to read blogs, so if I was gonna read, I’d bettah write, right?

3] Order or chaos?

I am all about order, but understand that there will be chaos.

4] Where would you like to live?

I could, and have, lived in a variety of places, big and small and Smallville, but as long as Carlos is there that’s where I live. Oh, and as long as it's not too far from the ocean; I need to be able to get to the sea quickly when I feel the urge

5] Starry sky or sunset?

Sunset. I love the way the skies change from the blues of the day to the pinks and oranges and blacks of night.

6] Paper book or e-book?

I have an e-reader that I use when we travel, so I don’t have to carry the books I am reading, but at home, in my chair, propped up in bed, lounging in the sunroom, I must have an actual book that I can touch and smell and turn pages and fall into.

7] What is the writing for?

As for the blog, it’s just to share thoughts and ideas and opinions and fun stuff with people who might be interested. It’s a connection and since I have people dropping by here from every corner of this country and abroad, that’s pretty cool. As for other's writing, it's to learn and grow and understand.

8] TV or not TV?

I love TV; I can watch the good stuff and the crap. It’s a way to hear a story, have a laugh, learn something, or just relax.

9] What do you think about social networks?

Well, there’s’ the blog, of course, so I am into that. I Tweet, mostly to share my blog, and to get breaking news—it was the place to be during that historic Supreme Court decision this past summer to read all those fabulous Tweets about equality. And I Facebook to keep up with friends that are far away and to get some news.

10] Favorite food?

Spicy. I like spicy Indian food, and spicy Asian foods, and spicy Mexican food—though I have learned from Carlos that real Mexican food, at least from where he grew up, isn’t really as spicy as all that.

11] Favorite music genres?

I like a lot of all of it, save rap; I like to read a rap lyric, as long as it isn’t misogynistic or homophobic or violet, because it’s almost like poetry. But I can opera, and I can rock, and I can classical, and I can country—as long as it isn’t too twangy. I pop; and I blues and I standards and I world music, folk music and and … yeah, I like almost all of it.

And now for 11 random things about Bob:

1] I am petrifying shy in situations where I’m not in control or out of my element, though I find that, after the fact, I have enjoyed myself.

2] I have a novel I hope to see published one day and another story in me right now trying to get out.

3] I like my animals more than I like most people … except for Carlos and my family.

4] I am a middle child and nearly everything you’ve heard about middle children fits me.

5] I like mustard with French fires; I loathe ketchup or catsup or whatever that is, though I love tomatoes.

6] I don’t like sweets, unless it’s the Peanut Butter Cup.

7] I awake each and every day with a song in my head; some songs stick around for a few days and some just wander in, but I wake up singing.

8] I am fascinated by death, because I believe in reincarnation and believe I’ll be back; now that doesn’t mean I want to hurry along in this life.

9] I have a very vivid imagination that leans toward the macabre; if I cannot reach Carlos I instantly jump to, “He’s dead.” I can’t help it.

10] I am, and this ain’t bragging, extraordinarily hilarious and extremely quick-witted.

11] I have been in love twice in my life; the first time broke my heart, and this time it healed me.

...What grinds your gears? What chaps your hide? What tightens your nuts? What pisses you off?

Mistress Maddie posted hers over at her spot, A Day With Mistress Borghese--and if you aren't reading her then WTF are you doing on the Internet--and so I decided to follow suit and share those things that, um, well, bother me.....

1, Stupid Questions .... like 'Which one of you is the woman?' comes to mind. First off, we're gay, and we're male, so neither of us is the woman because that would make us a straight couple and your question even more idiotic. Or howsabout 'What's it like being gay?' 'Um, it's like being straight only more fabulous.'

2.Barbara Walters ... Retire.Already. You passed your Sell By Date in the late 80s ... your late 80s.

3. Fashion ... I'm not into designer duds. I am no label queen--unless it Levi 501s--but if you're going out in public, even to Publix, or the mall, or a movie, put on clean clothes, clothes with no rips or tears or shredded hems. It only takes a second to look like you put a soupçon of effort into getting dressed.

4. Lazy Drivers ... Move! Just because there's a peed limit does not mean you have to drive slower than that! Use a signal! Every freaking car on the road has one, even your hillbilly wagon. Get off the phone! If you wanna die so you can read that latest Facebook update from someone you don't really know, I'd suggest traveling down a two-lane highway in the middle of the night and wrapping your car around a tree. Do not try to take me out with you.

5. John McCain ... See Barbara Walters.

6. People With No Opinions ...On Anything ... Really? You don't have a single thought on marriage equality, gun control or healthcare--amongst other things? Then stop breathing because you're taking up valuable real estate.

7. People Who Can Tell You ... which Kardastrophe f**ked a football player versus which Kardastrophe f**ked a basketball player versus which Kardastrophe is married to a woman, but when you mention the Secretary of State, they look at you like a deer in headlights. You have now become part of the problem.

8. Cell Phones ... I have one, and use it occasionally, but I don't have it glued to my hand and I don't pull it out every five seconds to check it. The reason we've lost the ability to communicate is because we're too busy playing games on phones, watching videos on phones, checking Facebook and Twitter and your blog on the phone. Life is going by and some of you won't know it until a YouTube video about the story comes up on your phone.

9. People Who Show You Pictures ... of their babies and ask, 'Have you ever seen anything so beautiful?' I say, 'Have you seen Huge Ackman shirtless on a beach and why does your baby look like 'Winston Churchill.'

10. People Who Cannot Take A Joke ... So, you say to me, 'Y'all don';t sound like you';re from here.' and I lie, 'I've lived here my whole life.' and you say, 'You don't have an accent' and I say, 'That's because I graduated from the fifth grade.' It's a joke. Sort of.

According to TVGuide Canada, these are the Top Ten Same-Sex couple ever to appear on television:

1 Cameron Tucker (Eric Stonestreet) and Mitchell Pritchett (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) on  Modern Family:

You’ve probably already fallen for Mitchell and Cam, the funniest--and most visible--gay couple on television today. The 2009 pilot episode opened with the couple flying home with their adopted daughter Lily, and a hilarious misunderstanding when another passenger says “Look at the cute baby with those cream puffs.”

To be fair, Lily was eating cream puffs!

Fans campaigned online for more physical affection between the two, as it seemed that only the show’s heterosexual couples were allowed to kiss. The kiss came during Season 2, in an episode devoted to Mitchell’s discomfort with public displays of affection.

2 Keith Charles (Mathew St. Patrick) and David Fisher (Michael C. Hall) from Six Feet Under:

How would you describe a relationship between an emotionally repressed, closeted mortician and a police officer with anger issues?

If you said “complicated,” move to the head of the class.

HBO’s Six Feet Under was acclaimed for its true-to-life portrayal of gay men and the highs and lows of their relationships, and no one went higher or lower than David and Keith. They broke up twice over five seasons, but by the series’ end, they had achieved a new level of intimacy and adopted two teenage boys, Anthony and Durrell. The emotional final episode showed us a glimpse of their future, including their wedding and how each of them died.

3 Dr. Callie Torres (Sara Ramírez) and Dr. Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw) on Grey’s Anatomy:

Some Grey’s fans cried foul after Dr. Erica Hahn (Brooke Smith) was suddenly written out during Season 5, coincidentally after kissing Callie. Showrunner Shonda Rhimes insisted the decision had nothing to do with a reluctance to portray a lesbian relationship, but rather a “lack of chemistry.”

Thankfully, that chemistry is alive and well with Callie and Arizona, the head of pediatric surgery at Seattle Grace Mercy West. Initially, Callie was reluctant to date Arizona, who had only ever been with one woman. Now they’re having a baby together! And with Mark Sloane.

4 Jesus Velasquez (Kevin Alejandro) and Lafayette Reynolds (Nelsan Ellis) from True Blood:

A part-time prostitute and dealer of V-juice, Lafayette is the short order cook at Merlotte’s Bar, and isn’t afraid of any trash-talking redneck that sends a hamburger back to the kitchen.

5 Dr. Jon Fielding (Bill Campbell) and Michael “Mouse” Tolliver (Marcus D’Amico) from Armistead Maupin’s Tales of the City:

This 1993 miniseries was years ahead of its time in its representation of the LGBT community, and brought to life some of the most beloved characters in contemporary literature.

Unlucky-in-love Mouse finally met the first big love of his life, Jon, by crashing into him at a roller rink — just in time for the couples dance.

6 Ianto Jones (Gareth David-Lloyd) and Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) from Torchwood:

Jack Harkness proved so popular in the 2005 season of Doctor Who, the time-travelling con artist was spun out of the 51st century and into a series of his own. Over three seasons, Jack’s relationship with Torchwood Institute colleague Ianto Jones went from casual to complicated, and the ongoing storyline hit home with gay and bisexual viewers.

Sadly, Ianto fell prey to a fatal virus in Torchwood: Children of Earth, telling Jack he loved him with his dying breath.

7 Kevin Walker (Matthew Rhys) and Scotty Wandell (Luke Macfarlane) on Brothers & Sisters:

It wasn’t exactly love at first sight for conservative Kevin and out-and-proud Scotty; the two had a few spats and an emotional breakup before reconnecting. Then came their commitment ceremony in Season 2’s finale--the first same-sex wedding between ongoing regular characters on any American network show.

As of this season, the ABC series’ showrunner is David Marshall Grant, one of the actors from a controversial 1989 thirtysomething scene in which two men appeared for the first time on TV in bed together, after what was undoubtedly a sexual encounter.

What goes around, comes around.

8 Bette Porter (Jennifer Beals) and Tina Kennard (Laurel Holloman) from The L Word:

Throughout the series’ run, is there anything this up and down, on-and-off couple didn’t work through? A miscarriage, unemployment, childbirth, dating men, legal battles over adoption … I could go on, or just point out their indiscretions on The Chart.

While other couples on the show also captured fans’ hearts (take a bow, Shane and Carmen, Alice and Dana), only Bette and Tina saw through their trials and tribulations for all six seasons. Shame about Jenny Schecter’s dead body in their pool in that series finale, though. That was a bit of a mood killer.

9 Larry (Julius Chapple) and Sam Adama (Sasha Roiz) on Caprica:

Earth can learn a lot from Caprica, where sexual orientation is a non-issue. In the series’ third episode, viewers met Larry, the supportive husband of tattooed Tauron mob enforcer Sam Adama. Larry appeared in only four episodes, but resonated with fans who enjoyed his charm and his willingness to stand by his man — even when Sam usually came home grumpy. The two served as role models to Sam’s young nephew, William, who will one day grow up to command Battlestar Galactica.

10 Tara Maclay (Amber Benson) and Willow Rosenberg (Alyson Hannigan) from Buffy the Vampire Slayer:

Buffy fans still consider the romance between Willow and Tara to be one of the series’ most important relationships. Kudos to creator Joss Whedon for showing the first regularly represented lesbian couple on network television, even if they weren’t allowed to kiss for a long time.

According to TVGuide Canada, these are the Top Ten Same-Sex couple ever to appear on television:

1 Cameron Tucker (Eric Stonestreet) and Mitchell Pritchett (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) on  Modern Family:
You’ve probably already fallen for Mitchell and Cam, the funniest--and most visible--gay couple on television today. The 2009 pilot episode opened with the couple flying home with their adopted daughter Lily, and a hilarious misunderstanding when another passenger says “Look at the cute baby with those cream puffs.”
To be fair, Lily was eating cream puffs!
Fans campaigned online for more physical affection between the two, as it seemed that only the show’s heterosexual couples were allowed to kiss. The kiss came during Season 2, in an episode devoted to Mitchell’s discomfort with public displays of affection.

2 Keith Charles (Mathew St. Patrick) and David Fisher (Michael C. Hall) from Six Feet Under:
How would you describe a relationship between an emotionally repressed, closeted mortician and a police officer with anger issues?
If you said “complicated,” move to the head of the class.
HBO’s Six Feet Under was acclaimed for its true-to-life portrayal of gay men and the highs and lows of their relationships, and no one went higher or lower than David and Keith. They broke up twice over five seasons, but by the series’ end, they had achieved a new level of intimacy and adopted two teenage boys, Anthony and Durrell. The emotional final episode showed us a glimpse of their future, including their wedding and how each of them died.

3 Dr. Callie Torres (Sara Ramírez) and Dr. Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw) on Grey’s Anatomy:
Some Grey’s fans cried foul after Dr. Erica Hahn (Brooke Smith) was suddenly written out during Season 5, coincidentally after kissing Callie. Showrunner Shonda Rhimes insisted the decision had nothing to do with a reluctance to portray a lesbian relationship, but rather a “lack of chemistry.”
Thankfully, that chemistry is alive and well with Callie and Arizona, the head of pediatric surgery at Seattle Grace Mercy West. Initially, Callie was reluctant to date Arizona, who had only ever been with one woman. Now they’re having a baby together! And with Mark Sloane.

4 Jesus Velasquez (Kevin Alejandro) and Lafayette Reynolds (Nelsan Ellis) from True Blood:
Outrageously flamboyant, Lafayette makes no apologies for who he is, and won’t put up with anyone who feels he should. A part-time prostitute and dealer of V-juice, Lafayette is the short order cook at Merlotte’s Bar, and isn’t afraid of any trash-talking redneck that sends a hamburger back to the kitchen.
Enter Jesus, the caregiver of Lafayette’s institutionalized mother. After some hot dates and a sampling of V, Lafayette and Jesus discover they are both descendants of practitioners of magic — and not the nice kind. It’s just another day in Bon Temps, Louisiana.

5 Dr. Jon Fielding (Bill Campbell) and Michael “Mouse” Tolliver (Marcus D’Amico) from Armistead Maupin’s Tales of the City:
This 1993 miniseries was years ahead of its time in its representation of the LGBT community, and brought to life some of the most beloved characters in contemporary literature.
Unlucky-in-love Mouse finally met the first big love of his life, Jon, by crashing into him at a roller rink — just in time for the couples dance.

6 Ianto Jones (Gareth David-Lloyd) and Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) from Torchwood:
Jack Harkness proved so popular in the 2005 season of Doctor Who, the time-travelling con artist was spun out of the 51st century and into a series of his own. Over three seasons, Jack’s relationship with Torchwood Institute colleague Ianto Jones went from casual to complicated, and the ongoing storyline hit home with gay and bisexual viewers.
Sadly, Ianto fell prey to a fatal virus in Torchwood: Children of Earth, telling Jack he loved him with his dying breath.

7 Kevin Walker (Matthew Rhys) and Scotty Wandell (Luke Macfarlane) on Brothers & Sisters:
It wasn’t exactly love at first sight for conservative Kevin and out-and-proud Scotty; the two had a few spats and an emotional breakup before reconnecting. Then came their commitment ceremony in Season 2’s finale--the first same-sex wedding between ongoing regular characters on any American network show.
As of this season, the ABC series’ showrunner is David Marshall Grant, one of the actors from a controversial 1989 thirtysomething scene in which two men appeared for the first time on TV in bed together, after what was undoubtedly a sexual encounter.
What goes around, comes around.

8 Bette Porter (Jennifer Beals) and Tina Kennard (Laurel Holloman) from The L Word:
Throughout the series’ run, is there anything this up and down, on-and-off couple didn’t work through? A miscarriage, unemployment, childbirth, dating men, legal battles over adoption … I could go on, or just point out their indiscretions on The Chart.
While other couples on the show also captured fans’ hearts (take a bow, Shane and Carmen, Alice and Dana), only Bette and Tina saw through their trials and tribulations for all six seasons. Shame about Jenny Schecter’s dead body in their pool in that series finale, though. That was a bit of a mood killer.

9 Larry (Julius Chapple) and Sam Adama (Sasha Roiz) on Caprica:
Earth can learn a lot from Caprica, where sexual orientation is a non-issue. In the series’ third episode, viewers met Larry, the supportive husband of tattooed Tauron mob enforcer Sam Adama. Larry appeared in only four episodes, but resonated with fans who enjoyed his charm and his willingness to stand by his man — even when Sam usually came home grumpy. The two served as role models to Sam’s young nephew, William, who will one day grow up to command Battlestar Galactica.

10 Tara Maclay (Amber Benson) and Willow Rosenberg (Alyson Hannigan) from Buffy the Vampire Slayer:
Buffy fans still consider the romance between Willow and Tara to be one of the series’ most important relationships. Kudos to creator Joss Whedon for showing the first regularly represented lesbian couple on network television, even if they weren’t allowed to kiss for a long time.
