I Didn't Say It ...

JD Vance, on Swifty’s endorsement of Kamala Harris:

“We admire Taylor Swift’s music, but I don’t think most Americans, whether they like her music or are fans of hers or not, are going to be influenced by a billionaire celebrity who I think is fundamentally disconnected from the interests and the problems of most Americans."

Has JD not met his running mate? You know, that billionaire celebrity who is fundamentally disconnected from the interests and the problems of most Americans?

Seriously, you cannot make this shiz up!

Sarah Huckabee Sanders, world famous liar, on Kamala Harris:

“It is absurd that she does not take questions from the press, from the American people, and so I think this is actually a much more important night for her because it’s so rare that we hear from her, that we hear her take questions, or that we know anything that she actually stands for. I think that’s why you’re hearing so much about the preparation for Vice President Harris because this isn’t something she does very often, and I think she has a lot to get ready for. I don’t think that she’s up to the challenge, in large part not just because I don’t know that she’s a great debater, but she’s so wrong on the issues that Americans care about, and she has a terrible track record to talk about.”

Wait, Huckleberry, you say that nobody knows what Harris stands for AND she is also wrong about everything she stands for?

What a moron.

Raphael Warnock, Georgia Democrat Senator, on that school shooting in Georgia:

“I spent Friday night with the wonderful people of Winder, Georgia. And I thought about it as I was sitting there and thought about my own days as a high school student a long time ago. But it was Friday night. We should’ve been at a high school football game with high school students cheering on their classmates. Instead, they were mourning their classmates and two teachers. Look, we can do better than this. We—we have to begin with the fact that this is a tragic form of American exceptionalism. This doesn’t happen all over the world. Nowhere else—where you have a country that’s not at war—do you have this kind of routine random violence as just a part of the tragic everyday lives of people. Listen, 14-year-olds don’t need AR-15s, and we need to get these military-style weapons off the streets. 87% of Americans—Democrats and Republicans, according to a Fox News report last year—believe that we ought to have universal background checks and still we can’t even get that done in Congress. The reality is that in America, it’s not safe to be in our schools. It’s not safe to be in our shopping malls. It’s not safe to be in the spa. It’s not safe to be in a medical clinic. We’re all sitting ducks. And this does not happen everywhere in the world. The problem is that we have politicians in our country who are beholden to the gun lobby. And either based on ambition or fear, they go to work every day doing their bidding while the gun lobby lines its pockets with the blood of our children. The least we can do is move forward on the bipartisan spaces where ordinary people agree. Clearly, there’s a disconnect between what the people, the American people want and what they’re able to get out of their government.”

If We The People demand sensible gun control, the Congress should give it to us, and if they don’t: REMOVE THEM FROM OFFICE!

Richard Grenell, homocon former cabinet member for The Felon, on how mean Kamala was to poor DonOLD:

“Millions of people are watching tonight for the first time. What the ABC moderators just did is completely prove to these millions of people that the media are out to get [The Felon]. We couldn’t have scripted this better. Both moderators were so over the top attacking [The Felon] and not attacking Harris. My phone was lighting up from my friends and family, people who don’t normally watch politics, who could vote either way, saying things like, wow, the media is so biased, look at them going after [The Felon]. I hope the media, who always say we don’t want personal attacks from [The Felon], recognize that all Kamala Harris did tonight was attack  [The Felon] in ruthless ways, mean-spirited ways. She was very nasty about that and I hope that she gets called out for that. She wasn’t talking about policies because she missed the opportunity to explain all of these videos that we’ve been seeing of her as a radical Californian. We know her policies, and she didn’t explain any of those. She just kept attacking [The Felon].”

Oh Dick—may I call you Dick since you’re acting like a Dick—wants to paly The Billionaire As Victim card. And the line about people calling him who don’t watch politics are now voting for The Felon cuz Kamala took him down is a typical ReTHUGlican lie.

Sit down, Dick.

Roy Cooper, North Carolina Democrat Governor, on the presidential race in his state:

“It’s close here in North Carolina. It always is. This was Biden-Harris’s closest loss in 2020, only 1.3 percent. So the fact that Kamala Harris, as Vice President of the United States, has been to North Carolina 17 times shows that she cares about our state. She knows that we are in play. And she knows that if she wins North Carolina, she is the next President of the United States because [The Felon] has no other pathway. When we continue to get this information out to the American public, and to people here in North Carolina, that Kamala Harris has an economic plan that’s going to help lower the cost for everyday people, that’s going to help families thrive, that is going to protect women’s reproductive freedom. I think at the end of the day, that’s going to be what works here.”

Listen up NC.

Go toward the future or live in the past when women, people of color, and LGBTQ+ folks were less than.

The Felon, in his literal 53RD post about the debate, inventing some loony tune “poll” in order to justify weaseling out of more debates, which he was calling for until the day after he bombed the debate:

“When a prizefighter loses a fight, the first words out of his mouth are, ‘I WANT A REMATCH.’ Polls clearly show that I won the Debate against Comrade Kamala Harris, the Democrats’ Radical Left Candidate, on Tuesday night, and she immediately called for a Second Debate. She and Crooked Joe have destroyed our Country, with millions of criminals and mentally deranged people pouring into the USA, totally unchecked and unvetted, and with Inflation bankrupting our Middle Class. Everyone knows this, and all of the other problems caused by Kamala and Joe – It was discussed in great detail during the First Debate with Joe, and the Second Debate with Comrade Harris. She was a no-show at the Fox Debate, and refused to do NBC & CBS. KAMALA SHOULD FOCUS ON WHAT SHE SHOULD HAVE DONE DURING THE LAST ALMOST FOUR YEAR PERIOD. THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE!”

Every time I see his name now, all I hear is the shrieking: “They’re eating dogs!”

Linda Ronstadt, singer, activist, LGBTQ+ icon, on The Felon holding a rally in Tucson’s Linda Ronstadt Music Hall:

“[The Felon] is holding a rally on Thursday in a rented hall in my hometown. I would prefer to ignore that sad fact. But since the building has my name on it, I need to say something. It saddens me to see the former President bring his hate show to Tucson, a town with deep Mexican-American roots and a joyful, tolerant spirit. “I don’t just deplore his toxic politics, his hatred of women, immigrants and people of color, his criminality, dishonesty and ignorance—although there’s that. For me it comes down to this: In Nogales and across the southern border, [The Felon]Administration systematically ripped apart migrant families seeking asylum. Family separation made orphans of thousands of little children and babies, and brutalized their desperate mothers and fathers. It remains a humanitarian catastrophe that Physicians for Human Rights said met the criteria for torture. There is no forgiving or forgetting the heartbreak he caused. [As for JD Vance] I raised two adopted children in Tucson as a single mom. They are both grown and living in their own houses. I live with a cat. Am I half a childless cat lady because I’m unmarried and didn’t give birth to my kids? Call me what you want, but this cat lady will be voting proudly in November for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.”

Ronstadt was the second rock legend with Arizona roots to speak out on politics; Phoenix-born Stevie Nicks encouraged fans to register and vote for “the candidate that speaks to you and your beliefs” in a social media post she signed “Love, Stevie Nicks, Childless Dog Lady.”

The Resistance Has A New Hero ... And It's Surprising

Well, someone in North Carolina has some ethics ...

Judge J. Douglas McCullough, in response to that power-grab by Republicans in the North Carolina legislature, has resigned his position in order to thwart GOP efforts to strip power from the recently elected Democratic governor.

Oh, and by the way, Judge J. Douglas McCullough is a Republican; and following McCullough’s sudden resignation, Judge John Arrowood, a Democrat, was sworn in.

This all came about because, once Democrat Roy Cooper was elected Governor last fall, the GOP-controlled Legislature has gone to great lengths to strip his office of power.

But, with just three sentences on a piece of paper, Judge McCullough has proven that not all Republicans are willing to goosestep along with the party.

You see, North Carolina has a mandatory retirement age for judges and so, to prevent Governor Cooper from appointing replacements for Court of Appeals judges nearing forced retirement, the Republicans passed a bill to shrink the size of the court from 15 to 12 judges—thereby denying Cooper the ability to appoint three upcoming replacements.

That legislation was vetoed by Cooper last week, but a veto override is expected later. And so that’s when McCullough went into action; before the legislature could vote to override Cooper’s veto, Judge McCullough resigned  ... 36 days prior to his scheduled forced retirement ... and this allowed Cooper to appoint a Democrat to the bench.
“I did not want my legacy to be the elimination of a seat and the impairment of a court that I have served on.”— Judge J. Douglas McCullough
In even better news, in addition to being a Democrat, newly sworn-in Judge John Arrowood is the first openly gay member of the North Carolina Court of Appeals.

And you just know that GOP heads are exploding in North Carolina.

And you just know that we have a new member, and hero, of the Resistance, in Judge J. Douglas McCullough.

Thank you sir.

North Carolina Accepting Same-Sex Marriage Applications Today

It was just last year that the people of  North Carolina voted discrimination into their state Constitution, by passing an amendment which stated that same-sex marriages, and civil unions, are banned, and that North Carolina must only recognize  marriage between a man and a woman; the only valid "domestic legal union" in the state.

It looked like it was done, but we have been seeing challenges to that marriage ban in recent weeks, and lawsuits filed that seek to overturn the ban, and just this week, in response the lawsuits, North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper announced that, while he must defend the law in court, he is in favor of marriage equality.

Roy Cooper has a history of supporting marriage equality, while not saying so much about it. When the constitutional ban was proposed in 2012, he opposed it, but said his opposition was mostly about the lack of clarity in its language; he never publicly addressed his own views on the issue, until this week, when he was asked whether he’d like to see the amendment repealed or a law passed to sanction same-sex marriage:
“I support marriage equality.”—Roy Cooper
And now,in Asheville, the Buncombe County Register of Deeds, Drew Reisinger, has announced that he will begin accepting marriage license applications from same-sex couples this morning, and will seek Cooper's official opinion.

While Reisinger will accept the applications, he will not sign them until he hears from the Attorney General because he says he needs Cooper’s “clarification on the laws of the state that seem to contradict the equal protection clause of the U.S. Constitution.”

“I will let each couple know that it is my hope to grant them a license, but I need to seek the North Carolina Attorney General’s approval. I have concerns about whether we are violating people’s civil rights based on this summer’s Supreme Court decision.”— Drew Reisinger
It might not seem like much, you know, a marriage license issued without a signature is really worthless, but it forces the state, and the Attorney General to do something, to say something, to act. And act they did: the Attorney General’s office issued a brief statement last night that points out that  the state constitution prohibits anyone from issuing licenses to same sex couples. But that won’t stop at least six same-sew couples from heading into Asheville, to Drew Reisinger’s office, and asking for marriage licenses this morning.

Here’s hoping that they get them; even unsigned, it’s a step in the right direction for a state that just last year slammed the door in the face of same-sex couples and the fight for equality.
