It has always been about controlling and punishing female sexuality. Always. Almost all the Abrahamic religions and sects are hostile to contraception, even though it's the most obvious way to reduce abortion (by reducing the need for it). The Bible and Koran are bursting with injunctions to keep women subservient to men in various ways. Their whole concept of society would collapse without that subservience. Banning abortion, forcing hysterectomies, and restricting contraception all fit the same pattern -- keeping women under control and without personal self-determination.
