Architecture Wednesday: 8927 St Ives Drive

Okay, LA .... if you wanna live above the smog, you live in the hills. But then you have earthquakes and mud slides and drought and fire and .... well, if you wanna risk it all, then  8927 St Ives Drive would be the home for you.

This cliff hanging gem is the architectural equivalent of trophy wife; the bold design of this Hollywood Hills West home epitomizes the California lifestyle, a contemporary space with indoor-outdoor living.

Top it off with uninterrupted views from every level, this house is the ideal party house; pools, spas, outdoor kitchen; automated floor-to-ceiling glass pocket doors.

There are seven—cuz six isn’t enough and eight is gauche—exterior fire features, custom water features, plus a massive multi-level deck with a cantilevered infinity pool.

Four bedrooms, five bathrooms, a wine cellar as big as a house—and you just know that would be a selling point for me—and entertaining space on every level.

Sadly, it was just sold for a hair under $16 million.

Missed it by that much!

I, too, love a good wine room, especially one so fully stocked.

Yeah, between earthquakes and mudslides, I'm kinda "Don't Buy A House On The Side Of A Hill."

  4. What a spectacular home. Love the modern architecture and interior design. Is the price reflected of natural dangers like or earthquakes, or just location--that would be strange because it has great views of LA. I always enjoy your blog postings. Thank you!
