PR All-St★rs 3, Ep 5: So Bad, It's Criminal

In conjunction with A&E and the History Channel, Lifetime is premiering a Bonnie & Clyde miniseries, starring Emile Hirsch and Holliday Grainger. It will air simultaneously on all three networks at the same time though I don’t know why but … that means product placement-slash-advertisement and that means All-Stars challenge.

I guess.

The designtestants must create a '30s-inspired couples' fashion look — that’s right, menswear and women’s wear so this could get ugly — and will team up, with one creating the Bonnie and the other creating the Clyde, though they will be judged and Auf’d individually.

Christopher, as last week’s winner, picks Viktor because he says they work well together though everyone else knows it’s because Viktor does menswear. Seth Aaron takes Jeffrey for the same reason, while Irina picks Mychael — possibly out of fear of being stuck with Elena — and Elena gets Korto.

Let’s rip…..
THE SAFES
ELENA — Bonnie
It’s the same thing she does every week — piece-work, stitched together — this time in black, with a little attached cape thing. It doesn’t look 30s, it doesn’t look Bonnie, it looks Elena.

KORTO — Clyde
I liked it. Edgy and cool, but so not a 12930s look at all. The jacket was very cool — though I suspect the sleeves were rolled up because their either didn’t fit or were too short — and the pants were great.

THE TOP THREE
IRINA — Bonnie

WHAT IRINA SAID
“I really like the look; the jacket’s what I wanted it to be, very masculine but also feminine.”

WHAT I SAID
It looks like a mix of Amelia Earhart and Cruella DeVil. It seemed lopsided and those extra long sleeves were just wrong.

WHAT THE JUDGES SAID
Isaac Mizrahi likes her look and is amazed by how much she accomplished in such a short time, but felt the proportions of the jacket were awkward. Alyssa loves the skirt, while Guest Judge, former All-Star and diva extraordinaire — subbing for The Beautiful Georgina Chapman™ —  Austin Scarlett thinks the dress is stunning and hates that the jacket covers it up. Guest judge Elie Tahari asks that the jacket be removed and loves the dress but find s it boring without the jacket, while fellow guest judge, model Bar Refaeli thought the look was flawless and the tailoring perfect.

WHAT HAPPENED
Irina, though she did too much, and too wrong, is safe

CHRISTOPHER — Bonnie

WHAT CHRISTOPHER SAID
“”I really like what I did with this fabric and the hard and soft quality about her as a person because she is female and an assassin.”

WHAT I SAID
I didn’t get 30s; I got modern day gown with a belt. And with that sheer panel in the middle and solid panel at the bottom, it looks like something’s falling down.

WHAT THE JUDGES SAID
Isaac called it a killer look — get it? Bonnie and Clyde? Killer? Yeah — and loved the belt-holster. Elie Tahari also loved the holster and the use of solid and sheer fabrics, though Alyssa felt there were too many horizontal cuts chopping the model into bits; she did, however, love the belt. Bar said Bravo — and I said, Wrong network honey! — and loved the mix of fabrics, and thought this look best fit the movie. Austin called it confident and elegant.

WHAT HAPPENED
Christopher is safe and high-kicks it offstage.

JEFFREY — Clyde

WHAT JEFFREY SAID
“I feel really good about my look. I’ve executed what I wanted to, how I wanted to, and I feel the judges are gonna love it, too.”

WHAT I SAID

It looks like a bathrobe to me; it doesn’t say Clyde Barrow, it says Chairman Mao will see you now. But, Shallow Alert, that is one hot model.
WHAT THE JUDGES SAID

Elie loved this look the best out of all the men’s looks and said Jeffrey pushed it to the edge, but that it was still wearable. Isaac loved the trousers, calling them super chic, and loved the rolled cuff—though, again, was it because the cuffs weren’t done? Austin was not so much a fan of the coat and said it was less 30s and more 70s; Alyssa disagreed, saying she saw some 30s in there but also felt it was avant-garde. Bar muttered something about the guy having something to hide and she was worried and, well, I tuned her out.

WHAT HAPPENED
Jeffrey gets a win after weeks in the bottom

THE BOTTOM THREE
SETH AARON — Bonnie

WHAT SETH AARON SAID
“To me she looks ladylike, very attractive. She looks amazing.”

WHAT I SAID
It looked to me like a costume from an Indian Jones movie for one of the female Nazis. Now, I liked it, mind you, but it didn’t look 30s criminal at all.

WHAT THE JUDGES SAID
Alyssa loved it so much she wanted to make out with Seth Aaron — does she think she’s on The Client List or something? She loved the shoulders and the waist. Elie thought it was an elegant look, but overdone; he called it an old silhouette decorated with leather. Austin loved the details, especially the double zippered skirt, while Isaac loved the leather yoke detail, but thought the leather belt was too much. He also felt the styling was wrong, and said she looked like a librarian or prison matron—maybe out of an Indiana Jones movie, Isaac? Bar loved it, though she didn’t think it was feminine or dangerous and didn’t fit the story

WHAT HAPPENED
Seth Aaron dodged a bullet and is safe.

VIKTOR — Clyde

WHAT VIKTOR SAID
“I’m pretty happy because it looks very very well-tailored. It looks done. It looks like there was craftsmanship involved.”

WHAT I SAID
It looks more nautical than criminal, and that gaping from looks ill-fitting, too open.

WHAT THE JUDGES SAID
Elie liked Viktor’s own clothes more than the clothes he designed; he also hates the neckline. Isaac thought that the shirt was ill-fitting and that the bow-tie was clownish; he loved the trousers, though. Austin hated the fringe, and called the look preppy gone badly, and Alyssa agreed that the fringe made it more 20s than 30s.

WHAT HAPPENED
Viktor is safe

MYCHAEL — Clyde

WHAT MYCHAEL SAID
“I really love the look. I think it gives a wink and a nod to the 30s but also works for now.”

WHAT I SAID
I get robot valet from the 1980s, which is about fifty years too late.

WHAT THE JUDGES SAID
Isaac liked Mychael’s vision, but thought the execution — and the lapels — were bad. He dubbed it pedestrian, and said it was more 80s looking. Alyssa loved the pants but Bar thought the jacket was a costume—for a costume design challenge? Austin also felt the jacket looked constricted on the model, while Elie hated the use of the gold and black novelty fabrics.

WHAT HAPPENED
Mychael gets Auf’d.

MY TAKE
That Zanna Roberts Rassi is feisty and tough in the workroom; she isn’t Tim Gunn cuddly, but I love her prickliness.

What was the deal with Christopher wearing one of Liza’s old sequined jackets on the runway? He’s.No.Minnelli.

I fell in love with Nina Garcia’s use of the word ‘pant’ — she loves a good pant — but now I think I like the word trousers better — though maybe I just love hearing Isaac say trousers?

I really though Seth Aaron’s look was good — better than Jeffrey’s Chinese housecoat thing, so I think the judges want to keep Jeffrey and his defensiveness around a while.

How Elena doesn’t not get called out for creating another patchwork Moto-cross looking mess I don’t know.

Jeffrey gave us a hint of old shrieking mean Jeffrey from his season when his model’s measurements were wrong — his guy had beefed up over the course of a year — but then he gave himself a timeout and all was fine. I wanted him to blow up though.
Irina. Why? I mean, she should have won last week, I think, and this week, while the coat was odd, it was a great look. I think they wanna keep her in the middle so it’s a big shock when she hits The Tents.

One more thing: More.Male.Models.

What did YOU think?

It's definitely fixed. Tents go to Irina, Jeffrey and Elena. I still think the latter is the Chosen One.

  2. "It looks like a mix of Amelia Earhart and Cruella DeVil."
    Very snorkable. :-)

Oh, Viktor - that was a mistake.

It was kind an interesting challenge in the combined aspect but, sigh - not another Lifetime event.

  3. What do I think? NONE of these has any link to the thirties. You heard me, NONE. everyone of these looks to the future and not back. And that wasn't the challenge.

If it were me, I would have failed everyone of these stinkers.
