Architecture Wednesday: Frank Gehry

Frank Owen Gehry is a Canadian-American Pritzker Prize-winning architect. And people either love him, and his buildings, or they hate him, and his buildings. I fall into the first category. Most of his buildings, including his private residence in California, have become tourist attractions, and are, by far, the most often cited as being among the most important works of contemporary architecture.

His best known works include [click 'em to emBIGGERate]:

The titanium-covered Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain.

The Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles.

The Experience Music Project in Seattle.

The Weisman Art Museum in Minneapolis.

The Dancing House in Prague.

And his private residence in Santa Monica, California.

I love the fluidity of his buildings, which seem to move and undulate. The use of materials, with its sheen and gloss, and rusticity, seem to add to that movement. And I like that his buildings defy shape, and seemingly gravity.

Music and movement and architecture.
