Indiana Puts Bigotry Into Their Constitution

Wow. Discrimination in the Constitution.

Yup, the Indiana House of Representatives voted to amend a ban of gay marriages and civil unions into the state’s constitution.

Yup. Homophobia.In.The.Constitution.

Naturally, this happened because the Indiana House is predominantly Republican, and the vote, 70-26, occurred strictly along party lines. Of course, there was the usual discussion and arguments along both sides, and the issue was weighed heavily. What's that? It didn't? it wasn't?

The actual debate on denying people equality based solely on their sexual orientation took all of thirty minutes.

The bill's author, and chief bigot, Republican Eric Turner, muttered that old chestnut about traditional marriage, saying, “The basic unit of society is the family, and the cornerstone of the family is marriage. Marriage is, and should be, the union of one man and one woman.”

Yawn.

Democratic Representative, Mary Ann Sullivan, dubbed the ban “a blow that hurts thousands across this great state, and taints our constitution with the language of hate.”

In.The.Constitution.

Sullivan then added that the passing of such a ban “removes talented people from classrooms and business, weakens the arts, our culture and progress, makes all of our cities less vibrant and diverse – the kinds of conditions that make economies worse.”

Republican asshat and goosestepper of hate, Ralph Foley, actually countered with the idea that the ban would have no effect on Hoosiers’ ability to live with and love whomever they choose, saying, “That loving friendship is a different relationship than a husband and wife, and we should recognize that in the law.”

So, two men who love one another and want to build a life together and raise a family, or not, together, is vastly different than a man and a woman wanting the exact same thing?

And, in addition, their little bigot ban also prohibits civil unions.

It boils down to this: gay people are not wanted, recognized, respected, or treated equally in Indiana.

Nice.

  1. What a bunch of bigots there are running Indiana. What is it about these losers that they can't understand what LOVE is? As far as I can see, love has no gender so why do they always bring up one man and one woman when they talk about marriage. People lived in caves at one time too, but we have moved on. Isn't it time we move on with this issue too.

  2. I am not pleased with this, and the current legislature is doing everything they can to push their socially retarded views onto my state.

However, this vote did not put it into the constitution. I think it has to pass the state legislature twice, and if that happens, it will be a referendum on the ballot in, I think 2014. This is not a done deal, by any means! Here is what the UPI story says:

"The measure, which now goes to the Senate, would have to be approved by two separately elected Legislatures and then by voters to take effect. The process would take at least three years."

The fight isn't over, believe me!

    XOXO

  3. I'm not surprised. I was in a shopping mall in Fort Wayne awhile back and as I walked by one of the stores I saw a t-shirt hanging from a rack that said "Silly Faggot, Dicks Are For Chicks".
