I Didn't Say It ...

John Oliver, warning us not to listen to news anchors who say we must give _____ a chance:

“Things will not be okay. And yes the sun will rise each day, but the continuing rotation of the Earth should not be your baseline expectation of American society. And I just need to ask you one more thing: It is going to be too easy for things to start feeling normal, especially if you are not someone who is directly impacted by his actions. So keep reminding yourself: This is not normal. Write it on a Post-It note, and stick it on your refrigerator. Hire a skywriter once a month. Tattoo it on your ass. Because a Klan-backed, misogynist internet troll is going to be delivering the next State of the Union address. And that is not normal, it is f—ed up. So we must fight it.”

Complacency is the enemy; the status quo is the enemy. Remember who and what President-elect _____ is and stands for ... and don’t you stand for it.
RuPaul, on the election:

“Finding it hard to carry on ‘business as usual’ after America got a giant swastika tattooed on her forehead. ... As a kid, I couldn’t understand how the world could stand by and allow a Hitler to happen. Now I do. ... There are really only two emotions, love and fear. All others are derivatives of the two. Which will you choose today?”

Choose love, and stand up for it.
Andrew Cuomo, New York Governor, to the LGBTQ community and minorities in the wake of the election of President _____:

“[L]et me be absolutely clear: If anyone feels that they are under attack, I want them to know that the state of New York—the state that has the Statue of Liberty in its harbor—is their refuge. Whether you are gay or straight, Muslim or Christian, rich or poor, black or white or brown, we respect all people in the state of New York. We are a state of immigrants. We are the state that passed marriage equality. We are New York, and we will stand up for you. And on that, I will never compromise. Count on it.”

As New York goes, so, I hope, goes the rest of America, standing up against the bigotry and intolerance that swept into office this month.
Nancy Pelosi, House minority leader, on President-elect _____'s selection of Breitbart's Steve Bannon for a top post:

"Bringing Steve Bannon into the White House is an alarming signal that President-elect _____ remains committed to the hateful and divisive vision that defined his campaign. There must be no sugarcoating the reality that a white nationalist has been named chief strategist for the _____ Administration. ”

The GOP is spinning this by saying that Bannon does represent Breitbart and Breitbart doesn’t represent Bannon, but since he was in charge, yeah, that is a total lie.
Colin Kaepernick, on why he didn’t vote:

“You know, I think it would be hypocritical of me to vote. I said from the beginning I was against oppression, I was against the system of oppression. I’m not going to show support for that system. And to me, the oppressor isn’t going to allow you to vote your way out of your oppression."

But if you stand by and do nothing then you continue to let your oppressor win; no battle ended because the other side got tired and quit. Battles are won because people stand up, and voting is one way to make that stand.

  1. Yes to all, but "no" to Colin's justification for not voting.

  2. All spot on. It's unfortunately a natural instinct for progressives/liberals whatever to try to find common ground and find a way to get along. We need to resist that urge

  4. Didn't Colin realize that the incoming administration might consider using him as an example? Anyway, I give the Prez elect about 3 years... that's it.

  5. Never compromise your ideals because the enemy won't. Look at what happened to appeasement the first time round; this time it sounds as though the President elect of the US will not help bale out freedom and liberty; hell knows he doesn't believe in equality either.
