GOP Men Are Being Tutored On How To Speak To Women

Imagine being in politics, getting elected to office, thinking you have it made, and then suddenly being told you need to undergo “sensitivity” training on how to speak to, and deal with, your constituents because, well, you’re not so good at it; at least not with your female constituents.

That makes you a Republican. And while GOP leaders have talked and talked and talked and … whoosh … repeatedly of “rebranding” the Grand OldWhiteMen Party after the 2012 election losses, it seems even they aren’t so confident in their team.

In an effort to get out in front of the next campaign season, to head off any more of those embarrassing gaffes before they’re ever uttered, the National Republican Congressional Committee [NRCC] is creating classes for the top aides of sitting Republicans to teach them what to say — or not to say — on the trail, especially when running for reelection against a woman.

Even Weeper of the House, John Boehner, is in on it; two of his top aides recently met with Republican staff to discuss how lawmakers should talk to female constituents, with Boehner urging his party to “be a little more sensitive” when running against women. You know, because they’ve never had to be sensitive before because, as even Boehner pointed out, while looking at Congress, that “there are a lot more females in the Democrat caucus than there are in the Republican caucus.”

Go figure.

So, in order to stave off another Todd Akin Legitimate Rape Fiasco, like the one that happened in Missouri in 2012, which cost Akin a good shot at winning his own race and touched off Democratic charges of a GOP “War on Women,” the Republicans will attend classes; a Miss Manners of Politics, if you will.

And they’ve got their hands full. In the 2014 cycle, there will be at least 10 races where male House GOP incumbents will face Democratic women challengers, with some very high profile races in places like New York, Illinois, Florida and Virginia.

Ah, Virginia, where Ken Cuccinelli tried to stick his nose into the collective vaginas of every female in the state and then found himself losing his election. And Arizona, where Congressman Trent Franks, in talking about rape and pregnancy earlier this year, said the that pregnancy as a result of rape is very rare, almost non-existent; thank goddess he didn’t mention the female body’s ability to fight off rapist sperm like Todd Akin. And then there’s Senator Saxby Chambliss, of Georgia, who actually blamed the sexual assaults of female service members on hormones, because, you know, women are kinda asking for it, or something, and men just can’t help themselves.

And let’s not forget Mittsy’s “binders full of women” remark that may have helped Barack Obama best him in last year’s election by 11 points.

That alone may be the cause of recent polls which show a continued double-digit lead for Democratic candidates among women, with much higher levels among single female voters. The GOP — which lost female voters in every single competitive Senate race in the 2012 election — also saw its unfavorable rating soar to 63% among women.

All that said, it won’t be easy for all these Democrats, even the women in the party. Many times they suffer from a lack of name recognition, have difficulty getting media coverage, and have a huge fundraising gap. But at least they can focus on the race and the issues because they won’t be taking “sensitivity” classes on how to talk to women.

Good luck with that, boys.

  7. They're still trying to figure out why a woman would want to worry her pretty little head about politics, let alone knowing how to respect or speak to one.
