I campaigned for McGovern in 1972, one of the first batch of 18 year-olds who were able to vote that year. Campaigning, I had doors slammed in my face, was hung up on and was called every name in the book, from idiot to Commie dupe. Unfortunately, thus began my ignominious history of being the kiss of death for most every candidate I ever supported.
He was an honorable man and dedicated public servant. A rare combination.
