I Didn't Say It

President Biden, on the passing of Queen Elizabeth II:

“In a world of constant change, she was a steadying presence and a source of comfort and pride for generations of Britons, including many who have never known their country without her. An enduring admiration for Queen Elizabeth II united people across the Commonwealth. Queen Elizabeth II was a stateswoman of unmatched dignity and constancy who deepened the bedrock Alliance between the United Kingdom and the United States. She helped make our relationship special. She helped Americans commemorate both the anniversary of the founding of Jamestown and the bicentennial of our independence. And she stood in solidarity with the United States during our darkest days after 9/11, when she poignantly reminded us that ‘Grief is the price we pay for love’. Her legacy will loom large in the pages of British history, and in the story of our world. She was the first British monarch to whom people all around the world could feel a personal and immediate connection—whether they heard her on the radio as a young princess speaking to the children of the United Kingdom, or gathered around their televisions for her coronation, or watched her final Christmas speech or her Platinum Jubilee on their phones, and she, in turn, dedicated her whole life to their service.”

We certainly won’t ever see another monarch reign for so long. Was she perfect? No; she made some mistakes and missteps. But while that might have been infuriating,  it’s also what made her human.

RIP

Jamie Raskin, Democrat Congressman, agreeing that President Biden is right about Thing 45 and the MAGAts:

“Two of the hallmarks of a fascist political party are, one, they don’t accept the results of elections that don’t go their way. And two, they embrace political violence. And I think that’s why President Biden was right to sound the alarm … about these continuing attacks on our constitutional order from the outside by [Thing 45] and his movement.”

And, since most in the GOP and MAGA movement hear only what they want to hear, neither Raskin nor Biden is condemning the entire Republican party, but rather those who stormed the capitol and those who supported them.

Those are the fascists in the GOP.

Harry Styles, singer and now actor, kind of proving he shouldn’t talk off the cuff about his new film Don’t Worry Darling:

“I think, you know, my favorite thing about the movie is that it feels like a… movie. You know, it feels like a real, like, go-to-the-theater-film movie. You know, the reason why you would go to watch something on the big screen.”

To be utterly transparent, I find Harry kinda sexy, for a wee lad, but this statement reminds me of a Beverly Leslie line from Will & Grace: “It's not so pretty when it speaks.”

Just sayin’.

Dennis Prager, conservative radio talk show host, pulling a Thing 45 and saying some slaveowners were nice:

“One of the confusing things about life is how many nice people help destroy societies. This is not meant at all facetiously. It is meant literally. We think that people who do bad things, either think they’re doing bad and so they’re truly evil or they will be obviously bad in interpersonal relations, but it doesn’t work that way. Nice people can support vicious things. The human being is a macro and a micro being among the many, many differences within each of us. There were undoubtedly many nice slaveholders in the South. This is not meant facetiously again, it’s meant literally. If you had been invited to one of their homes, you would have been treated beautifully, but they supported a vicious system. The left is a vicious system. It’s not slavery. Although the end result of all leftism is the enslavement of populations, not as in transatlantic slave trade or chattel slavery, but in the diminution of human rights and liberties, which is a form of enslavement.”

I thought we learned several years ago that racists and Nazis and Klan members and white supremacists are not nice, never nice; this totally smacks of Thing 45’s epic failure after the Charlottesville riots.

Let me make this queer: anyone who bought a human being and forced them into manual labor for their entire lives, including subjugating their wives and children., who kept human beings in chains and enslaved, sleeping on the floors of ramshackle slave houses, raping them, beating them, murdering them, is not a nice person.

Never a nice person.

Bill Barr, former Thing 45 Attorney General, on his former boss’ request for a Special Master:

“As more information comes out, the actions of the department look more understandable. It seems to me they were driven by concern about highly sensitive information being strewn all over a country club, and it was taking them almost two years to get it back. It appears that there’s been a lot of jerking around of the government. I’m not sure the department could have gotten it back without taking action. I think it’s a crock of shit. I don’t think a special master is called for.”

Yeah, I know, Billy Barr is trying to save his image. He never will in my book, but I love the fact that every time he speaks Thing 45 tries to act like he never liked Barr or really worked with him, or possibly never even knew him.

Styles reminds me of and old musicians joke.

“They got this new tenor that was so dumb, the others noticed”

  2. Don't hold your breath in anticipation of Chaz III upholding his mother's legacy; he's been gagging to be king for decades. And as a plus we have to put up with Fag Ash Lil as queen.

    1. I am not a fan of Chuck Windsor after what he did to Diana. He should have had the balls to tell mummy he was in love with another man's wife, before marrying Diana, and then go off and live a quiet life with the Rottweiler.

    2. It was apparently his grandmother and his father who pushed him into marriage, but I agree, he should have told them he wanted to be Fag Ash Lil's tampon.

  3. Billy B is sweating bullets none of this Trump shit comes back to curse his legacy. Styles is... attractive, I'm not wild about his music, but he's nice to look at. I think someone should enslave Pragger for the rest of his life and see if his opinion changes. Biden soars.

Prager beats that old some Nazis are nice people drum, when someone should be beating him in the head!

  4. My mother and her mother saw Queen Elizabeth
when she visited Canada. Mom and gma rode up
on the elevator from the parking garage, the doors
opened and all these people were lined up to greet
them. They scuttled off the elevator and got in line,
the elevator opened again and it was the Queen.

  5. I don't think we will ever see another world leader like Elizabeth. She should have produced a book on how to be a great leader with class dignity and dedication.

And yeah.....Harrry Styles....not the brightest bulb on Broadway.

    1. Poor Harry. I don't mind looking at him, but perhaps less talking?

And saddest of all, since royals are so private, we'll never really know what QE2's life was truly like.

  6. Queen Elizabeth and the rest of the royals have never been even a blip on my personal radar. Ninety-six is a long time to be alive.
Speaking of blips, I don't quite know who Harry Styles is and from the looks of things I don't need to know.
Sure, there were some nice slaveowners. They were nice to their own peeps. Slaves were just beasts, not to mention the wrong color, so they didn't count. STRONG sarcasm here.

    1. I think he's referring to the slaveowners who maybe didn't beat or rape their slaves as much as others. It boils down to this for me: anyone who thinks, or thought, it was okay to OWN another human being for life, and do with them whatever your tiny little heart desired, from beating and raping and selling and murdering and torturing and branding and so on is not a nice person, never was a nice person, and anyone who thinks otherwise can heed the words of the Great Anne Marie and FUCK OFF AND DIE.

Morality in a nutshell. Fascism and genocide should cause us to recoil in horror, but such things cannot exist without the tacit consent of the majority.

We know the queen had a sandwich in her handbag -- just ask Paddington! And poor Harry -- no one wrote his lines for him to say. Barr is just trying to cover his big ass; too late! I agree -- not all Rethuglicans are fascists, but just one is too many.

  9. Barr, etc. All crooks. All guilty. I pay no attention to hate radio personalities. They are the Iowa of entertainment. Styles might make it as an actor. The camera loves him and he has a ton of charisma. I saw a still from the film and swooned. :) But also, tick, tick... 15 minutes. The Queen. While I am sorry to learn of her passing... I don't think this is a game changer. Royals are now the equivalent of reality show celebrities. Thanks for the feed, Bob.

  10. When Trump visited Britain and met with The Queen, his behaviour was just plain ignorant. When inspecting guardsmen he pushed in front of her as she trotted along behind him. This was very much at odds with respectful rules of behaviour in The Queen's presence. In contrast, Mr Obama and Mr Biden were both courteous and respectful. Trump should have been clapped in irons and thrown into a dank dungeon in The Tower of London.

  11. Dennis Prager -- SMH! I thought the right-wingers were the ones always accusing the left of "moral relativism."

I see Harry Styles as more a curiosity than anything. He never did much for me otherwise, but clearly I'm in the minority.
