Smallville Doings

New Year's Eve was a quiet affair at Casa Bob y Carlos in Smallville. we toasted with champagne and watched my best gal pal, Kathy Griffin, torment my boyfriend, Anderson Cooper. All in good fun, and anything that gets my Andy into a giggle fit is fine by me.

New Year's Day, however, we had a lovely time. We spent the day with David and Neal, our Round The Way Gays, at Bill and Michael's, the Out Of The Way Gays, house about forty minutes or so from Smallville.

Bill and Michael have a beautiful home, on a lot of land, on top of a hill, in the trees. It screams peaceful tranquility. It doesn't hurt that the house is also gorgeous, with all things that Bob just loves: music, art, books, and, well, booze. And good friends, too, on New Year's Day.

Good friends.

Bill and Michael hosted a party for fifteen, which started off with Bloody Marys or Mimosas, and slipped in wine with dinner. I've always loved slipping into wine....or Bloody Mary's....or Mimosas! And we had a feast of all things Southern, from Black-eyed Peas and Collards, to Mac'nÇheese, and cornbread, Ham, green bean casserole. All delicious.

And great conversation, if you like politics and pop culture. You all know I don't care much for talk of politics or pop culture, but I decided to play along. . You can always tell a dinner conversation is getting off to a good start when one of the key phrases is "A stiff dick has no conscience." Yes. We talked Tiger. Y'all know how I feel about that topic; ain't none of my bidness, but, this chat was more about why people cheat, why athletes cheat, and can they come back form such a public personal crisis.

For me, they cheat because they can, because they feel invincible, and think they can get away with it, and we all bitch and moan and kvetch about it, until we welcome them back onto our TV screens. All is forgiven. I mean, we're fickle like that.

Then, of course, as happens, any talk of Tiger automatically scurries into a discussion of Health Care and the Republican Party of No, followed by more talk of politics with a slight, well, maybe not so slight, liberal bent.

It was just the kind of dinner chat I like, because everyone had an opinion, and the chat was lively and fun and spirited; my spirit , of course, came in a bottle marked Cabernet. Just sayin'.

After dinner was a game of Who Would You Want To Have Dinner With Or, ahem, Fuck; your choice. Now, anyone who knows me well, knows that Rosa Parks, one of my heroes, is always on the list....for dinner. But I added a little Frank Lloyd Wright because I love a good Prairie Home. And to finish off the meal, or finish me off after the meal, I tossed in Colin Farrell.

Oh yes I did.

But, the odd thing is, that when the cards were revealed, one, which held the names of Antonio Banderas, Brad Pitt, and Colin Farrell, was attributed to me! Me??!?!? I mean, out of the fifteen people, I'd met most a couple of times, two just once, David and Neal are good friends, and, well, Carlos knows me like the back of his hand.

And yet they all thought I was the ManWhore.

Nope...........................................that was Carlos.

Anyway, it was great great fun, with some really amazing people, and Bill and Michael are the perfect hosts. I couldn't have thought of a better way to spend the first day of a bright and shiny new decade.

The picture above is Bill and Michael's painting of Maria Callas, and I just fell in love with it.
