Architecture Wednesday: Inhabit Treehouse

This one is just outside the town of Woodstock, less than two hours from New York City,  and is a world away. It sits in dense woods, at the edge of a pond, and looks out over the Catskills.

Inside, it’s tiny, but open, with views everywhere. It’s an open plan lounge with a wall of glass on one end, and a kitchen at the back. Behind the kitchen, is a separate shower room, bathroom, and a bedroom at the rear which could easily become an office studio space, while a loft bedroom upstairs overlooks the main floor with windows on either side into the woods

The treehouse has two balconies on either side of the main floor, and a large terrace underneath that leads down to the water and hot tub.

It’s the perfect getaway.

  1. Now, a tree house is where all that wood belongs! I love this (probably because I like camping). I'd need to sleep on the couch because that loft ceiling feels too low, but that may just be the camera angle. Love it to pieces!

  2. Do I misunderstand what the term "tree house" means? To me this is a house in the trees, not a house built in a tree or trees.

  3. I really like that

  4. Beautifully simple but I would have preferred a proper staircase up to the mezzanine floor not just a ladder.

  5. Loverly setting but is that
    ladder even legal? Us older
    ladies who have midnight potty
    trips would not do well!!

    I think the loft ceiling is low over the head of the bed, so it wouldn’t bother me too much!

    @Ken
    A house IN the trees??

    @Adam
    I usually get a little claustrophobic at the small houses, but this one has enough glass to make it feel open.

    @Yorkshire
    I hadn’t noticed that it was just a ladder to the loft. I’d need some proper stairs, too!

    @TDM
    I know I’d tumble down that ladder at least once a day!

  7. LOVE!
    Unconditionally, of course, because it's in the middle of the woods and I am not fond of people right now.
    Love the plan and that loft bedroom and even the kitchen. And I don't even cook!

    XOXO

  8. Put in a real kitchen, and use the upstairs as a studio and I could make that work

  9. I too love this and Im right there with Sixpence and Deedles for the same reasons...and I have always wanted to live in a treehouse.

  10. I am 100% on board with this one. What a wonderful, economical place. I love the location. I love all the wood. I love the light. And I love it's compactness. I would love to write there. It just needs a piano.

    I also get the “get away from people” vibe, but you’d have to cook as I think take-out or delivery might not be an option!

    @Travel
    I’m not sure there’s room for a real kitchen, but I love the idea of the studio loft space!

    @Maddie
    The views alone sold me on this one, too!

    @upton
    I could live minimally, but I do think even I might have to rid myself of some stuff I’d want to keep.

  12. I adore treehouses! This is a beauty. There was a show I watched briefly about a treehouse builder. His work was exceptional. His personality drove me up a wall and the canned problems and conversations made me nuts. But oh the treehouses!

    I love the smallness of this one, and yet the openness with all the glass.

  14. Love it! I always appreciate a house that's small but innovative.
