This one is small, peaceful, and historic … it’s a lovingly renovated fisherman’s cottage in the seaside village of Mousehole in Cornwall, England. Out front is a private, landscaped garden that leads to the front door, a stable door that extends a warm welcome. Inside is a calming, light-filled room with north-facing windows, whitewashed walls, and exposed beams. This first level is an open plan living and dining room, with a small, yet fully equipped kitchen at the back. A glass floor in the upstairs hallway allows natural light to fill the kitchen. Right off the kitchen, a timber staircase leads to the second level, and the home's primary suite. The bright, airy sleeping area enjoys captivating sea views and an original stone fireplace. A spacious bathroom awaits on the opposite side of the level, featuring vintage fixtures and decorative tiling. The top floor houses a well-proportioned second bedroom—a space that could easily be converted into a home office or creative studio. As I said, it’s not big, but it’s lovely and quaint and near the sea and was … yes, was because it went fast … for sale just a smidge below a million dollars.                  |

ReplyDeleteA little too low ceilinged for me. Looks like they used Merola tiles in the kitchen and bathroom. And, speaking of the kitchen, does that skylight look up into the... bathroom?
ReplyDeleteAs others have noted, the ceilings are probably too low for me to feel comfortable in. But other than that, and suspecting it might be on the damp and cold side in the winter, I can easily see myself living there. Carol - a reader in Philadelphia, PA

ReplyDeleteYes!!!!! I would absolutely LOVE this!!!! As I have gotten older I love places like this and the charming and old world feel to it while feeling updated. The walls alone sold me. I half expect to see Doc Martin walking a down the street.

ReplyDeleteLove that they left some exposed brick/wall. Some of those walls look THICK. probably good insulation. Love the bathroom, too. The size is just right for me. And I'm 5'9" in Doc Martens, so yeah, no problem with the ceiling.

I would redo the steps and the tile leading to and in the kitchen. That is all kinds of wrong. The rest? Perfection. Love white walls... and all that light it produces. Very simple, but very lovely. I do wish there was a window in the kitchen. And the location. I would be in heaven.

ReplyDeleteSadly the second homers, as @Treaders says, price the locals out of the market. Ordinary people, doing the jobs that keep the community going like dustbin men, nurses, police officers, fishermen, shop assistants etc., etc., cannot afford to rent let alone buy. Now those renting houses are being thrown out of their homes which are being turned into holiday lets. Mousehole (pronounced Mousell for some weird reason, is only a tiny place and I bet there are virtually none of the original families living there now.
