Architecture Wednesday: Hancock Park Tudor

I am not normally a fan of Tudor style architecture because it’s a little too precious for me, but this home, built in 1925 in the Hancock Park area of Los Angeles, may change my mind.

I like that it maintains its original details, like the arches, the gorgeous floors, the moldings, and yet has a very modern kitchen and modern color choices. The grand foyer, separating the formal living and dining rooms feature incredible original detailing, while a library parlor room, with its rich mahogany paneling, doubles as a screening room. At the back of the house is the family room, with views to the backyard, a custom bar and beautiful coffered ceilings.

Out back is a covered dining patio, a brick fireplace, a sparkling pool, and a large two-story guest house with living area, exercise room, private guest suite with wood beamed ceilings and en suite bath.

The home has four bedrooms in the main house,; one has an en suite bath, two share a Jack and Jill bath and the exquisite master retreat offers a fireplace, ample light, arched detailing, a private bath and a walk-in closet.

It has history, and yet it features all of the modern conveniences.

And it can be yours for just $6,995,000.

  1. The interior is nice and open, clean and chic, more then Tudors usually are so I like that. I love that the one wall and fireplace is all black in that one room....but the kitchen is way to cold shoulder for me, which should have a warm and welcome feel. Interior-love. But the exterior is not me...screams to conservative to me, although Im loving the front door.

  2. Not being into architecture myself, I don't know a Tudor from a Threedoor, but I kinda like this one. The yellow would have to go, though.
Mads, if you start baking those Mexican spice cookies, that kitchen would warm right up!

I love tudors but there are too many different elements going on in this one. Really dislike the kitchen. To each their own!!!

  7. I used to love Tudors when I was growing up. Haven't seen an interior for a long time. I love the spaciousness, the light. Nice.

  8. I love brick houses. The exterior totally belies that mid-century mixed with modern interior. Love the floors and the architectural details. Very well appointed!

  10. The house is my style...A little too big but I still love it...Love that front door but the door camera ruins it for me...With all that money one could open for something less conspicuous...I live in Denver...There are few streets that have these type of homes of yesteryear...Love it...
