A Christmas Tour

Welcome to Casa Bob y Carlos! Feliz Navidad, or, as we like to say, Feliz Navi-dude!

The tree is up, and there were literally hundreds of excess ornaments left over, because I wanted simpler. Though I did decorate the dining room table with some larger ornaments and Christmas accoutrement.

Candles and garland line the mantel—though the candles are battery-operated lights that come on at 5PM and shut off precisely at 10PM. We are punctual, to say the least. Garland and ornaments over the doors to the sunroom, as well as ornaments hanging in the windows.

My mother was a tole painter, and she painted many different Christmas themed pieces, a lot of which my father sent to us after she passed. I like the idea of having her around the house during the holidays.

And so there you have it … a holiday tour of Casa Bob y Carlos. Happy Holidays from our house to yours.

  1. These pictures made me smile. I love it all, especially those tole paintings from your mother! I'm not getting anything out for Christmas this year so I'm happy to enjoy yours.

  2. Like as for Mitch, my Xmas decs will consist of getting blog-pals' pictures up on screen and savouring visually their glitz and sparkle. Yours will be much more than a worthy addition to the list. Thank you greatly.

  3. It's nice to keep your loved ones' things around you, whether out permanently or seasonal; it's a way of keeping in touch with them.

    Your decorations are very jolly but you must have a lot of storage to keep them packed away the rest of the year.

    Merry Christmas decorating.

  5. Oh. My. Gawwwdddd.
    I absolutely LIVE! for this.
    I love everything. Every. Single. Thing. You already know that I am not xmas-y but I love it when people do it. I think the tole paintings are fantastic (and so sweet to have something your mom painted!). I love the garlands. I may give in and get a natural one and hang it somewhere (I don't have a mantelpiece). I think I 'll like the idea of having something green when everything gets white and cold outside.
    I'm also living for that xmas tree and the table arrangement. I love sparkly shit. Positively.
    Great post, Bob. That's the spirit!!

    XOXO

    P.S. still jelly about that sunroom!

  6. Like that you use decorations created by your Mom, I have 3 pieces of a Nativity Scene (Joseph, Mary, Jesus) that were used by my Mom and Dad since before I was born (1942). Stay safe this Christmas Seasons!

  9. I all so lovely!!!! And nice to see people in the mood for the holiday. To me it's all about the decorating and being with friends and family. I really like the little Santa and Mrs Santa's. You should be pleased with your home. Now can I come join you for a drink?????

  10. @Mitchell
    We always do quiet Christmas Day, though we usually have people over during the holidays, so this year will be very different. But I still wanted some pretty!

    @Raybeard
    Then I've done a good thing. Glad you enjoy the tour.

    @Helen
    I have several things my Mom has made that are out year-round, so it's nice to bring out the Christmas.
    And we have a large garage to hold the five big boxes of Christmas cheer!

    @TDM
    Cozy. Yes.

    @Six
    Glad you're loving it. We aren't as big as some of our friends who literally decorate EVERY inch of their homes. We like festive and simple and fun and family!

    @Yaya
    Christmas is kind of about family so it's nice having Mom around as you clearly know!

    @treaders
    Thanks. It is quite colorful.

    @Susan
    Thank you. I like fixing things up when I can.

    @MM
    A Socially Distant Hendricks and Tonic?? Okurrrrrr.

  11. I think one of the best parts of putting up the decorations are the memories that are tied to them. I love home-made decorations and your Mom's pieces are wonderful. Thanks for sharing them.

  12. the best pieces are your mom's. reminds me of some items my grandmother had back in the day. I have my grandmom's red wax candle and glass candle holder from the 60s; I will never light the candle as I cannot find another like it.

  13. Oh... people such as yourself, who live with such loveliness on a daily basis. Your mother's work is adorable. I bet it is nice to have her sharing the holidays. Picture perfect. Thank you for sharing. Puts me in a festive mood!

  14. Thanks for the tour. I love seeing shops, stores, homes, patios decorated for Christmas. I'd give you a tour of mine, but I only did the patio, front door and decided not to decorate inside this year (too much work), except for bringing in two little Santa chairs and a cowboy stocking.

  15. Your decor is lovely...and although I find it so, I seem to have less enthusiasm for the holiday every year. (Dare I say I empathize with Melania in that regard!). I will be baking Sicilian Fig Cookies (Cucidatti) to give to friends and neighbors, but that will be the extent of my efforts. Wish I could give you some!

    Love!! Love!! Love!! What a welcoming home for Christmas/Holidays!! I am a stickler for detail. Job well done. Yes, I did notice the rug. I attribute that to the kids running through the house. I love the front porch. Can we talk about that color of barn red? Perfect! Now, if hear a tap on the window and you see a 6 foot 2 guy with a mask on, please acknowledge.

  17. VERY festive indeed! Your tree is spectacular!

    I love having my Mon's things out.

    @AM
    I have other things she'd painted that are out all the time. They are some of my favorite things!

    @uptonking
    I like it, too; it's easy to put up and easy to take down. And looks purty for six weeks or so.

    @Boots
    I really scaled back on the ornament on the tree and around the house this year!

    @Frank
    Putting it up gets me in the spirit. Your cookies sound perfect.

    @VRC
    Consuelo cannot leave a rug alone and so I just said let it be! And our house is painted a bright shade of yellow green, with the front porch painted red, and in the back, the sunroom is also red. You can see it better here:

    @Debra
    Thanks. It's got far less ornaments than in years past, but has many more interesting and personal one!

    @Dave
    Thanks. I am not a decorator most of the year, but Christmas bring it out in me.
